“On a cross country trek, my battery light came on shortly before reaching Ash Fork. I pulled into Cowper Garage about 15 minutes before they were supposed to close up for Memorial Day weekend. The owner Herbie looked at my minivan full of kids with all our luggage strapped to the top and had someone test our car to see what was up. The alternator was failing and the battery died and the car shut down within minutes of pulling into the shop. Herbie asked for employees to stay late to repair our vehicle. He then called a parts dealer in Prescott and asked them to verify that the needed part that showed up as available in their database was actually available. When the part was confirmed to be in-hand, they began removing my dead alternator while someone (I think Herbie's wife) drove to Prescott to pick up the part. They were there way past closing time, and they got the job done. They even directed us to a nearby park so that my kids could get a break from the car while we waited. They finished the job and sent us on our way. We've driven over 3,000 miles since and are grateful that we weren't stranded in Ash Fork hours away from our intended destination for Memorial Day weekend.
