Thunderbird Lodge is a surprisingly top tier lodge in a wonderfully serene and important location on the edge of Canyon de Chelly National Monument. It is operated by the Navajo Tribe and offers a nice, basic room with all needed essentials in a natural, shady cottonwood grove. The amazing setup and people exceed expectations. The only way to really experience the deep canyon is by arranging a trip with a Navajo guide from the lodge, which is super informative and takes visitors to fantastic photo spots and major sights. The half day tour is probably enough for most folks. Before or after, the drive along the south rim is a great activity. The associated cafeteria has fantastic food, though some found it just okay, with reports of lukewarm or cold items. Overall, it is a pleasing facility that provides great value.
Canyon DeChelly is a wonderfully serene place. It has great spiritual meaning to the Native Dine People. If you study the history it will also be meaningful to you. It is that way for me!

Absolutely ok for one night. Quiet, rooms were good, equipped with everything you need. Bath tub wasn’t cleaned.

Surprisingly top tier lodge in this seemingly remote area. You will be lucky to have chosen this and will exceed your expectations and feel more value of money spent. Amazing setup, people and establishment.
