University Auto Repair did a fantastic job working on our classic 1989 Chevrolet One Ton Dually 4WD! Our long list of service items were taken care of in a timely manner. University Auto kept us informed of the progress of the repairs and the truck was ready when promised.

Last time I went, they charged me $98 to put in a $.56 part. I decided to try them again because AAA said I would be able to get a discount by using them. I got my truck towed there and I had to pay $400 for them to tell me that there is nothing they can do to fix it and then by the time I got there, they charged me another hundred dollars for storage. This is crazy for all the very very good reviews that they have nobody’s really telling the truth. That they can charge and do whatever they want because we really need the help you know they live in a richer area of town so I feel like their Adjusted to target people who have a little bit more money but for the people who are just trying to get by it’s really ridiculous You’re gonna charge me $98 for $.56 part that’s ridiculous and then they ended up calling my dad and told him that they were gonna take it off but still if I wouldn’t have said anything they would’ve done regardless that’s why I didn’t even wanna try them again If your desperate for help I definitely would not go here and they dident even give me a discount from the triple a

I called and asked if they have availability for diagnostic. I told them that I was an out of town hunter and I need to get my vehicle checked out. I have ran to the issue before due to rain and water getting into my secondary air injection pumps. I clearly stated that I would need to get it look at today and if they were available. They assured me that it will be looked at today. I called back at 3pm to check and they said they will call when they have looked at the car. Diagnose would be 175 dollars which I would have to agree because I needed to get it done. They never called or reach out to me, I have to call back the next day and they said they finished their diagnose almost at CLOSING TIME. They even start lying about my finding water and mud in my air filter, even though I have throughly cleaned my air filter cabin right before I took it to the shop. If you are lying just about that then how can I trust you to fix my car? Very dishonest business establishment.

I need spark plugs for my truck I call and ask if they can get me in on Monday they said no but first thing in the morning no problem
I bring the truck in it 730 am
The front desk guy starts the selling process of their service
He got me for a diagnosis wish I agree because I need the truck fastest possible long story short they found about 7k worth of work that I need
Got my truck out pay their 200 diagnostic and left
I call another shop I ask for a quote on replacing spark plugs and boots around 700 and 2 hours later I got my truck running like new again
I got mud tires a little bit bigger for the truck so the right side rubbed on the mud slab they diagnose was a whole differential replacement for about 5500 plus 1700 for spark plug and boots
I’m not saying they are bad but for sure they change like a 5 stars dealer
And I believe they pay for google reviews because when a search for most trustworthy shops they are the first choice in the flagstaff area

Caution- if you don’t know the average price for services, be advised they extremely overcharge. Was quoted over $730 to have break fluid and coolant replaced and to change out front wipers. Simple and cheap services. The higher end for fluid replacement is usually $150 for each fluid and maybe $75 for wiper replacement, so roughly $375 total on the higher end…. $730??? Bummer, needed a new mechanic I could trust and it won’t be here.

I have had a good experience with university auto in the past but a completely different experience the other day. Long story short my wife’s car would not start the other day after stopping at the gas station. I called university auto to explain what was happening and that I had cleared codes a few months earlier for a similar issue and it seemed to solve what was happening. I kind of got lectured that there was more that goes into diagnosing than just scanning codes. Sure I get that, but I got the feeling that anything I had to say about the symptoms did not matter to the person I spoke with. Had the car towed there and they “diagnosed” that the starter and alternator needed to be replaced and it would be $2200, which I thought was a little ridiculous. Those parts causing the issue did make some sense but I thought the estimated cost was even more ridiculous after I had the car towed back to my house where I swapped the starter and alternator in about 2 and a half hours. I get that parts get up charged and labor rates aren’t cheap by any means but $2200 sounded excessive. Regardless, the problem was not fixed after swapping these parts and ended up being the brake light switch which I have since learned was recalled by Subaru. Glad I had it towed home to fix it myself because I’m sure I would have been out $2k+ without the actual issue being fixed. If you have a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek that will not start or starts and will not shift out of park, my suggestion would be to contact a Subaru dealership.
Follow up: Management reached out to me and refunded the diagnostic fee. So although the experience we had with the diagnosis did not go well, I do feel that they made it right.

The first time we took the Honda there he replaced the steering system and we were happy. The 2nd time, however, he told my 20 yo daughter her engine needed replaced with 125K miles on it. We towed it back to Phoenix and fixed it ourselves for $15. It needed 2 sparkplugs. Now I'm skeptical.

As a single female still learning to navigate car maintenance, I place high trust in this repair shop. I have been here a couple of times and am always met with respect, and not once did I ever feel intimidated. The first time I brought my vehicle was after a messy job another establishment left, this place was quick to find the problem and fix it. The second time was after a debris collision on the interstate, brought my vehicle here to assess any damages and left with peace of mind. Chris and his associates are very knowledgeable and you can tell they care about what they do. He explains his assessment in terms I can understand and even provides some education regarding car maintenance, I really appreciate that! I highly recommend this repair shop!
