This post is LONG overdue…Deeply Rooted AZ Hair Salon is so amazing! My daughter, mother, and I have been getting our hair done here for the last six years and I truly have to give credit where it is due! I’ve experienced postpartum hair loss two times, stresses of life, and so much more, yet I’ve always been in THE BEST of hands! I truly thank God for their experience, insight, and expertise! I’ve lived in many places and this is MY FAVORITE place to get my hair done; like I will NEVER leave Phoenix because of Deeply Rooted (SERIOUSLY, too many bad experiences). If you are a professional and value your time, please read my review prior to booking with Terri Cottrell. If time is not an issue for you… Terri will be perfect! This review is based solely on my client/stylist experience with Terri Cottrell.Terri has been my stylist since I relocated here from the Washington, DC metro area in 2020. I wear a short pixie cut and my only requirement, is a haircut. I wash/condition and style myself. My appointments are usually 20 mins at best.During the first several months, Terri was on time, professional and seemed to have communicated well. She serviced me with the perfect pixie at each service.I was instructed by Terri to request my future appointments via Vagaro which I did for as many months out as the system would allow. Please note, Terri stated to me that if the requested appointment had not been accepted as my requested appointment approached, I was to reach out to her via text, which I had to do multiple times. Routinely, once I sent her a text, she would respond and accept the appointment. On a few occasions, she would reach out to me to ask if I was still coming for a requested appointment that she had not accepted in Vagaro. I was always confused by these inquiries because she had not accepted the appointment in the system, so how was I to know that it was accepted? I NEVER communicated my thoughts to Terri. She later explained that “other” clients were stating that they never received an acceptance for their appointments and that there was an issue with the scheduling system. I never had any other verbal conversations with Terri regarding the appointments and I never had any discussions about a "strict" schedule or her routine tardiness.I started noticing that when I would arrive for my appointments, my wait time became increasingly longer because she was still working on a client, sometimes 15-20 mins past my scheduled appointment time. I never once communicated to Terri that this was an issue, I waited until she called me into the suite, got my hair cut and left… tipped her 20% as normal. On February 23, 2023, my appointment was at noon. On my way to the salon, Terri sent a text stating that she was running 15 mins late, there was no explanation nor apology. I turned around and went back home as I live near the salon. I arrived at the salon at 12:15 p.m. (15 mins past my appointment). Terri was still working on a client; I did not get into her chair until 12:45pm. She offered no apology and I never communicated to her that there was an issue however, I noticed that she was short in words with me as if I had offended her. I merely sat in her chair as I always do, got my cut and left.A few days later, I requested appointments via Vagaro (3 weeks out) from March through August. None of the appointments were accepted and my next requested appointment was in two days. As of Wednesday, March 15, 2023, my appointment had not been accepted for March 17. I text Terri at 2:00 pm to inquire about my appointment and I did not receive a response. I texted again, the next day on March 16 at 10:30 am to inquire about appointment request for the next day.on March 16 @ 5 pm, I received an entirely long, unprofessional, passive-aggressive text from Terri as if it was my fault that she was not accountable for the appointment rules that she put in place. Once again, stating that she NEVER saw the appointment request that I sent over 3 weeks ago.Terri stated she cannot accommodate my “strict” time schedule as if we had previous discussions regarding my schedule. I merely used the scheduling system that she instructed I use to request appointments and to follow up by text if the appointment was not accepted in a timely manner.Surprisingly, Terri stated that my appointments have been uncomfortable and tremendously stressful for both of us which I was confused by because my main and only objective is to obtain a service, respect my time and go about my business of the day. I think the stress for Terri comes from being held accountable.Service: Hairstyling

January 2022 by Keosha Aidoo
I was referred by a long time client so I checked out their social media and saw they weren't taking new clients, said they would be in January. Fast forward to January, I see a new post and comment asking if they're accepting new clients and the response is yes we are. So I go to the website in an attempt to schedule. It takes me to their scheduling page. I find the stylist I want and see her next available date is a few weeks out, perfect, that's when I was hoping to schedule anyways. Go thru the page answering questions and since I was a new client, told me I needed to contact stylist and then I proceeded to book, knowing my appt was waiting to be accepted. I contacted stylist, introduced myself and that I was referred and hoping to book with her. Told her date and what I had in mind. She immediately tried to push me off on another stylist with earlier availability. Told her I wasn't interested in that stylist (nothing personal, just wanted stylist that was referred) and the date I'd selected worked for me. At this point she says she's trying to work in her other clients and for me to call her back tomorrow. I said no problem, thanked for her time. Called back the next day, no answer. Left a detailed VM and waited for a call back. Here we are days later... Nothing. No response. No call back. It's disappointing to have to go through all of that just to get an appointment. If you don't want to do my hair, just say that. This place was highly recommended but this experience just left a bad taste in my mouth.

I would first like to start by saying that both Lisa and Terri were recommended to me by a long time client of theirs . I finally decided to take the leap and start my loc journey and based off of the recommendations of this client I chose to work with both Lisa and Terri and it has been the most frustrating process i have ever had. I had a consultation booked with them in July and I was not able to get booked for my loc install until September. well in July I did find out I

As a black woman with natural hair, it was difficult to find a good hair salon in metro Phoenix. After years of getting my hair done at JC Penney Hair Salon (of all places!), my daughter and I stumbled upon Deeply Rooted AZ in the Sola Salons. My stylist for the past few years has been Terri Cottrell. Her knowledge of natural hair care for a "woman of a certain age" is unparalleled. I have lupus which makes my hair very brittle. Combine that with this heat and the need for color - it's A LOT to deal with. Because of my sun sensitivity due to lupus, I had to choose between color and relaxing - both would be too harsh. Terri was able to find the perfect honey blond which covers my grays causing it to shimmer like lighter highlights overall. I usually just go with a short curly natural because I am incredibly lazy and incompetent when it comes to my own hair care. But when I need to be "red carpet glamorous", Terri straightens my hair using a curling iron. Her products and general care makes so that my hair grows incredibly fast and thick for for an old lady. My much younger daughter puts her head in the hands of Terri's sister and partner Lisa, known for her twists and locks. Any kind of style that you may want can be done with flair and expertise at Deeply Rooted!

PAY ATTENTION to the ratings. Why is it this business has been around for 30 years (so they said) and there is only 9 reviews? All 5 star? Most likely from family and friends. If not that probably paying to not post the negative reviews. But to put a long story short, I have sisterlocks. My current locitician was booked and I need to get a retightening done. I was referred to Lisa from client of mine so I reached out and setup a time. She quoted that it was going to be $100 for 2 hours (4 to 6 weeks of growth) and anytime after that it would be $25 dollars per half hour. I go in to get my hair retightened and she did two hours worth. ( I paid her for those to hours, even though I shouldn't have, only HALF MY HEAD WAS COMPLETE). She stated she cannot go any longer because she has another client right after me. I said okay I need my hair to be completed that day. So she said I would come back after him for her to complete my hair no problem. She stated she would call me when she was finished his lock installation. I NEVER got a call. I figured she was still working on his locks so I go up to the Salon just to see if she is there and so i could wait in there waiting room since it says they close at 8pm towards the public. I arrived at 7:15pm no one was there lights completely out. So I called and asked her where she was and she stated she had to leave early because she had DINNER RESERVATIONS? The fact that she did not let me know beforehand speaks for it self. But to have her actually leave then say I'm going to have to reschedule. INSANE. She later said she would call me on Sunday to work out a time. It was 2:40pm today when I officially just asked for a refund. Not only did she not complete my hair but the fact that we are doing the run around is ridiculous. The service is extremely unprofessional. Why am I constantly reaching out to you, when you are the business. You should be following up with your clients promptly especially if you are the one being inconsistent. I understand being busy we all are but this is poor communication at it finest. Lastly she refuses to give me a refund. So that literally is $100 down the drain for awful service, so be weary of that. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

I have been a client of Lisa and Terri since I arrived in AZ in 2016..Lisa is always right on point when it comes down to my retighten working wonders. Terry is a perfectionist when it comes to coloring my hair as well. Both are very professional and always with the warm welcome and family-like atmosphere. Lisa has started my four-year-old grandson with his journey Terry also started styling my mother's hair since she came to AZ in February. Hands down I am a very satisfied customer and will only let these ladies touch my hair.
