ACORN or Host thrift used to be our weekly jaunt to (1) find bargains and (2) support the food pantry. It was always fun. However, this past week I witnessed three incidents right in a row that turned me off. First, the volunteers are wonderful but one of the heads manned the cashier this past week. One woman brought in a mug from the donation tray outside. She put it on the counter and mentioned that cups are all $.50 on the shelf. The cashier said, “How’s $2.00?” The woman mentioned all the ones priced already were fifty cents. Cashier said, “O well!” The second person brought up a pair of ladies pants. She took out $2 as the sign said BUT the same cashier said, “O no, these still have the tags on. I’m going to charge you $5!” The third was a man who politely asked if anything in the man cave room was negotiable. Instead of politely responding and saying that there are days when things are 50% off and he could come back then. No, she rudely responded. She should allow the other volunteers to “man” the cashier. She certainly was having a bad day. She should turn over the reigns to the lady who owns DQ (she is very pleasant)! I bet people will think twice about thrifting there. Update: I received a very nice call from the manager apologizing and asking us to return to ACORN. It was very much appreciated
