DO NOT USE HIS SERVICES.My ex-husband and I received a notice from the IRS regarding our 2017 taxes that we filed through Burton E. Carter. The notice stated that the car we purchased was filed incorrectly. When we met with him, after providing all of the requested information about our car purchase, he told us that we qualified for a large tax credit because of that purchase. However, according to the IRS, we would've only been eligible for this tax credit if our car was an Ioniq Electric Battery vehicle (a full EV). According to the IRS’ research, this was incorrect because our vehicle is a hybrid with a battery, that does not have at least 5kw hours of capacity. Burton E. Carter should have known and caught this while filling our taxes. Now we owe nearly $12k to the IRS, all due to a mistake made by our CPA/ERA. We came to him in full confidence that these taxes would be done correctly, which they were not and now we are left with a large tax bill as a consequence. When my ex-husband reached out to see what would what would be done to make this right, the response was that we are fully responsible because we signed our filed taxes. There was no respect, as I reached out twice personally through email and never heard from him regarding this matter. My ex was the only one that received a response stating that we are fully responsible. No efforts were made to compromise or to cover part of the fees, penalties, or audit sum.We also paid a flat rate and not a percentage of our tax return for his services. I do not believe that this was an intentional fraudulent action. The fact that he refused to back up his work when he touts “years of experience” and supposed "knowledge of the IRS" and their tax policies, the least he could’ve done is to back up his work. While expecting to be accurately represented, as your trusting clients…we shouldn't be the ones to pay for mistakes when we pay you for your expertise and professional services.

Do not file your taxes with this company! I had him do my taxes for two years. I got audited by the IRS for $12,000. The reason for the audit was Burton Carter applied us for a tax credit on an electric car instead of the hybrid. When I called him to resolve the issue he told me "too bad it was our problem." I explained to him that we hired him to do the job correctly and it was not do correctly we wanted him to take care of the situation and he wanted nothing to do with it. So we had to battle the IRS for a year and had to pay the penalty because he didnt do the job he was hired to do. They are horrible.

If I could, would give then 100 stars. I visited the office early in the week and the lady at the front desk scheduled an appointment within four days. They gave me a template to fill out. I actually had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Burton. This guy is great. He actually explains all the measures and meaning of each line by line entry that is being submitted to the feds and state tax departments. I moved during the first quarter of 2020 to AZ and lived in a state with no income tax. Mr. Carter also took the time to set aside my income and payments in the tax free state, so I would not be assessed a tax for that income and expenses in the former state. I have nothing but praise for this business from the first contact with the reception desk to the president of the firm. If you fear tax problems, you should consider this company to help you resolve any uncertain during the filing season.
