Plan ahead and don't miss this wonder of the world. Less than 10% of visitors see the alpine north rim which lies an additional 500 meters above the south rim. Step back in time into this timber lodge built in 1928, with a most impressive large dining room lounges and a courteous international staff who treat guest with white glove manners. Surrounding cabins in this wilderness, filled with amazing wildlife and here begins the Kaibab Trail North descending five thousand feet to the canyon floor and hike to the infamous Phantom Ranch. Keeping on pushing across the bridge of the mighty Colorado to ascend the south rim and complete the 27 mile day hike. Reservations are lucky to get one year in advance and this hike is NOT for beginners no matter your shape. Read the words of the those who have made this Rim to Rim hike to learn safe hiking, preparation hikes and packing necessities....only the necessities.Rooms: Get reservations far in advance. Rooms are spartan but very comfortable and clean. Worth staying a couple days to hike and disappear into nature.

The lodge itself is beautiful! The motel room, well, I guess that's why it's called a motel. For $170 a night, we got a queen bed with NO mattress pad, a flat sheet on the bottom that didn't want to stay in place, a top sheet and a blanket that looked like it was from 1986. No bedskirt, no bedspread. Weird. The room itself was clean. It's a motel in a National Park and they aren't relying on your repeat business so what do you expect? Set your expectations low OR better yet, bring you RV and stay in the luxury of your own space. The RV park looked like the way to go! The North Rim was beyond amazing to see! The lodge had a nice resturant and amazing views.Rooms: The lodge itself is beautiful! The motel room, well, I guess that's why it's called a motel. This is a reviews of the lodge and accommodations not the canyon.Pretty rough accommodations in the “motel” portion. Just have to lower your expectations that you are roughing it and it is run by the government and your real purpose is to see the canyon. If you want to witness how poorly the US government can run something stay here lol.Beds are small and horrible. the motel is like a 70’s mobile home. The queen was a full size. Take ear plugs the walls are paper thinYou have a fair walk from the parking to your cabin or motel room. There is no way to drop off luggage near the cabins or motel. Zero-dark lighting in outdoor walkways and steps. Must take a flashlight. Room was supposed to have microwave - not there. Pod coffee maker and no coffee pods.Open table showed dining booked, but tables were plentiful around 5:30. Take your own food and drink you will be glad you did. Be sure to check in at 3 instead of 4. You’ll be in line for an hour if you try to check in around official check in time.Cabins “may” have hot water faucet reversed, no way to tell and they say to run hot water for up to 15 minutes to get warmNO WIFI and 1 bar of cell only connectivity which is in and out of cell service. It is simply unbelievable that a resort this remote cant provide connectivity in this day and age, let alone one run by the government. Just be aware you may be of touch.Definitely go there. Adjust expectations and take your own food and drink. Anyone that thinks they want the government to take over running the private sector, lol just go here vs a regular private company-run resort lolMother nature 10+US Park Service 2

North Rim is a seasonal lodge that opens from May - Oct. Although its not as big, it's far less crowded than the south rim.Safety: I felt safe the entire time we were there. There were railings and trails.Walkability: Angel point is the closest trail from the lodge. It's about 10min leisurely walk.Noteworthy details: This place is seasonal. Open only from May-October.

I went with my family, we enjoyed the hike and sunset but food is quite expensive if you want to have a proper lunch and dinner, fast food is available as well.Nearby activities: I was happy that I got to do a short easy hike with my kids and wife around the lodge and then I head off for solo tough hike to Red wall bridge trail which connects Rim to Rim trail.

Arrived in the dark to hike the Grand canyon. It's so dark out here. You wouldn't know what's around. We were confused with parking and getting into the lodge for check in. Apparently you park up at the top where the large parking lot is. Then you walk down into the village of shops to get to the entrance of the actual lodge. Once inside there's a desk off to the left. This is checking in and any other questions. To the right is a large dining room. You have to then go get your gear and search again for your cabin if you are staying there. It's probably easier in the day so you can really see how it's laid out. There are some food options, a cafeteria, bar and dining room. Some shopping stores and really that's it.They close in the later fall and back open in spring. If you plan to hike, go early when the sun is just starting to come up so you can see what you are actually hiking down into. It's worth every step. If you only want to go down a short distance, the climb out isn't miserable. Just take your time and enjoy the view.

We took my parents here for their bucket list. Everything was amazing! We went the end of September, a great time of year. The colors on the aspen trees were magical. Our cabins were great. Super cute and my parents literally woke up every morning and looked straight out the window at the canyon. All of the cabins are a quick walk to the most magnificent views. All of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The food at the Lodge was really good, I was impressed. The portions were a little too much, I wish we had shared plates a few times. You definitely won't leave hungry. Thank you so much to everyone for making a truly special trip for them. My parents advice, don't wait until you are old. Go see the Canyon now.

Stayed one night in the older cabins. Very rustic with some critters in the walls. The real highlight is the lodge's view over the north rim. It was pretty crowded but sounds like we were there at one of the busiest times. I would highly recommend everyone go at least once in their lives.

If you're not up for long hiking and want some peaceful quiet time, not so touristy part of Grand Canyon, North rim is the perfect place for you.Start off with a short walk to Bright Angel's Point then drive to Imperial Point and lastly Cape Royal. Took us about an hour and a half for all the three viewpoints! Perfect with kids but pets are not allowed. Be extra careful when walking the paths. The highest viewpoint of the Grand Canyon is at Imperial Point. Must go

The restaurant lodge gave us excellent service and fabulous food!! We loved the hosts Jason and Angel who were very polite & hard working. All 4 servers we had, Rocky, Maria, Megan, Brad and the omelet server, Andre', were fun, courteous and very capable servers. Also when we checked in and out of the Grand Canyon North Rim, Libby gave us fabulous service and we loved our cabin location and the cleanliness of the cabin. We loved the service that we received at the Rough Riders Saloon and the fantastic presentation by the Park Ranger, a very entertaining young lady, who was very animated and knowledgeable about the Grand Canyon and fossils etc. We also liked the couple that worked at North Rim Visitors Center and the Park Store. We purchased a few coffee table books and a Grand Canyon Lodge Pendleton blanket that we will treasure for years to come. Finally, as a reminder, dinner reservations are required and it was easy to get lunch and breakfast without reservations. Gas stations are limited in the area so make sure you have a full fuel tank when arriving to the North Rim. Bring warm clothes and rain gear because the weather changes quickly. We will definitely visit again someday soon in the future!! Blessings to all of the staff that lives and works full time at the North Rim during the short season that it is opened.

We spent one night in a cabin at the Lodge. If you get up to the North Rim early enough in your first day, one night is fine. We went hiking on the Kabib trail which wasn’t too exciting. Bigger bang for your buck is to hike the trails around the lodge. The views are amazing! After our hike, we checked into our cabin. We’ve been to quite a few National Parks and out of the 3 we stayed at, this was our least favorite cabin. Can’t pinpoint it, but it’s pretty dark in the room and parking is not that convenient. But, the location is ideal. We had dinner in the lodge which was wonderful. After dinner, we watched the sunset from the lodge’s patio. Amazing day!!

We stayed in a frontier cabin. It was cute, like summer camp. It was small, which is fine as you're really just there to sleep at night. However, be forewarned that you share a wall with another cabin, and you can hear EVERYTHING.My biggest problem was the food, or should I say, the lack there of. We were there on a Sunday. We went to get dinner early, maybe 5:30, at the deli. It's a limited menu to begin with, but they were out of macaroni and cheese, chicken salad sandwiches, pork, and you couldn't get a whole pizza because they were out of dough and cheese. We ended up getting hotdogs and the black bean soup, which was awful. We liked the saloon, but they have almost no food, and frequently only had one person working. Plus, they're supposed to open at 5:30, and they didn't open until after 6.The dining room is great, but you need a reservation way ahead of time, and the food is expensive. However, the service and the food was fantastic. You can't beat the location or the views from the lodge, but the food situation is horrible.

Service can be a bit slow. We stayed in the actual cabins a while ago - this trip we just had dinner. The steak was good and the view is fabulous. When we stayed, we were at the beginning of a rim to rim trip. The cabins are rustic but we were leaving bright and early so it was perfect.
