I LOVE coming to Changing Hands, while we never really interact with the staff I love how they have events and new things every time we come. Support your local bookstores and check out Changing Hands! Their prices are within market and they always have interesting finds!

walked into what seemed like a lovely shop after having Brunch next door. I believe I would have throughly enjoyed shopping around in there if it weren't for the dreaded male cashier. While I was looking around I overheard my husband ask him for his advice on where some humorous books to place in our restroom would be. The cashier indeed walked him to the humor selection and showed him what he may be looking for....and then proceeded to walk back behind the register area and make fun of my husband for "spending that much time in the bathroom" and wanting to purchase such decor for our restroom. First of all, reading is COOL no matter what book you choose to select. SECOND, how dare you make fun of a customer when they are RIGHT there for what book they are interested in purchasing. I then walked over to my husband and pointed out they were making fun of him for simply wanting to purchase some silly bathroom decor and left immediately. If you like pretentious book stores with rude staff that will judge you for what you choose to buy and read then this is the place for you. As an avid reader, I'll continue to make my book purchases from other local places and won't be returning. Im appalled at the gusto of the cashier to make fun of their customers while they're right there.

I first found this gem in 2008 and it was love at first sight. This book store has an incredible selection of new and used books. They have a generous buyback policy and loyalty rewards which makes them affordable. They offer educator discounts and employ former teachers and people with library science degrees, so their recommendations are often spot on. They'll order anything you can't find on their shelves, talk about amazing service. In 2018, the owner donated a full class set of books to go along with a local theater troupe's (Child's Play) production of the text. I absolutely love how this community book store loves us back.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Changing Hands. They are well-stocked, kind and attentive. It is always a pleasure to shop at this bookstore and the prices are very reasonable. Go here, you won't be disappointed!

This is my go to bookstore. It's nice to shop local and see local authors and events featured. There are book clubs, things for kids, and a lot of book paraphernalia/tchotchkes that make great gifts. They provide a lot of recommendations, making browsing a lot of fun. Their loyalty punch card rewards you for shopping there with money off, which means their prices are on par with larger national corporations. Plus, the fantastic vibes I get every time I step inside are unmatched-- online shopping can't compare. If they ever don't have what I'm looking for, I order through them and pick it up later. I also enjoy grabbing a drink and cookie at the First Draft Book Bar. There's so many reasons to keep coming back!

Book lovers will love this store! With plenty of parking, it's a restaurant, bar, and cafe inside a bookstore with organized sections like fiction, business, and travel. You could easily browse for an hour or so. The largest section is fiction. As a travel writer, I always find a bookstore's travel section. It's very small compared to other stores.

Changing hands is a beautiful book store with a lot to offer. I usually always enjoy my stops here, as a treat when I'm down in central Phoenix. Today was a weird experience. My spouse and I had breakfast at Toasted Owl, then decide to wander over to changing hands to pick up a few books. We walked up and saw the usual discount carts, a sign advertising trivia, and even the children's books. Opened the door, walked in, and started looking at the books. An employee came running across the store and said "We don't open for ten more minutes", motioning for us to leave. Embarrassed, we completely left. Why was the door unlocked? And why not just let us know and let us keep on browsing, given another employee was less than 15 feet away from us arranging some displays? Just kind of strange.

A Phoenix staple! I love the original location, too, but live in North Phoenix and feel so lucky to have this cool bookstore AND bar available so close! Whether it's for work, fun, or simply because I need a new book, I love coming here. Some of the best gifts, too.

We love going to this bookstore. In addition to it just being a bookstore and you getting some pretty good deals on second hand items and also a good selection of new things, there's a fun little things you can get too. Little pins and clothing and kitchen items and bags and socks and different things. Plus there's a bar there... All over a great experience. And we've never had an unhappy employee experience, everyone's always so nice and helpful and just down to earth!

We have this scratch off game for couples that gives fun date ideas. We scratched off one this morning that said we had to go to a bookstore and find a childhood book we liked, read them to each other, then buy the books and give them as gifts. We found Changing Hands Bookstore near the restaurant we were going to for lunch. I'm so happy we found this store!! They have so much stuff. We found our books and did our challenge. We're going to donate the books during the holidays. We also found some gifts for our family. I feel like we spent a lot of time in this store. There's so much to look at. There's definitely something for everyone. There's a coffee shop inside and dining area where you can read the books you just bought. Bathrooms are very clean.Parking was a little busy. Also, as a side note, they have the Toasted Owl Cafe next door. I love the Toasted Owl's Flagstaff location. I haven't been to their Phoenix location yet because it's fairly new. They have a lot of vegetarian options.

Really like this place! Great selection of books and the staff was great. Bought over $1000 in kids books and was able to get a few free books as a result of their rewards system. Will be coming back :)

Love this bookstore! So many unique books, gifts, and other trinkets that you’re not going to find at barns and noble. Very cozy feel that also had a bar inside! If you’re looking for your next book to cozy up to snd read, looking for some informational books or looking for books on Arizona, this is definitely the place to go! ?
