About Rio Salado Park

Rio Salado Park is a small park with a pond and access to the long Salt River trail. It features a nice lookout area at the top and a little forestry area under a bridge. The park is a very nice bike and walking trail that goes all the way to Tempe Town Lake. The area is relatively quiet with few others around, offering a peaceful hike or walk. Along the way, visitors can see airplanes taking off and landing. The views are a favorite, and some passersby are friendly. People may see ducks in the pond or spot a bunny. The setting provides a feeling of being by a river, and the water in the river can be impressively large. It is a good, safe path for walking or biking to get fresh air and feel like you did something outside. It is also great for dogs. The area is slightly neglected and hidden, however, and is not recommended at night or for women alone. There is not much shade, and the distance to the closest restroom should be considered. Sometimes construction along the rail makes it a bit uncomfortable, taking away from the natural feel. Some parts of the trail have been closed for construction, and certain park areas have a gate curfew around 7pm or sunset. Parking is plenty.
