October 2023 by £ The Count Of Monte Crypto ¥.
Today on, October 25, 2023 My suspicions were indeed confirmed. It would appear that the internal culture within the Safeway Corporation is in fact the norm, not an anomaly. After the experiences I had in San Francisco such as the Safeway staff members & hired security at the 3350 Mission Street Safeway, I was taking no chances. An accused shoplifter was murdered on Market Street in San Francisco on April 27, 2023, a terrible event I had the misfortune of witnessing the aftermath of. With those traumatic memories in the forefront of my mind upon entering this location, I went directly to the security guard at the self-checkout lanes & asked where he would like me to place my bags. I did have to ask several times (perhaps he couldn't hear me?) then I was told to "put them by the woods." I placed my bags in a location I felt was out of the way and proceeded to shop.To this location's credit, it was neat, orderly, well-stocked, & clean. The shopping experience was, for the most part, better than expected. The same MO of "shoppers" serpentining in front of you & blocking aisles was, for the most part, just part of a Safeway visit. Every single Safeway on earth does it. I didn't hear the Code 2-0-0 "Black person shopping" until I went to grab some lunch meat, which, as fate would have it, was located next to the liquor.Check-out was quick, & the staffers were cordial. The kicker came when I went to leave. My bags were moved to a separate location.Grabbing my stuff, I noticed that there were now two security guards standing at the exit, awaiting my departure. That provided me with a moment of clarity. When I was grabbing my bags, there was a person loitering next to them. Perhaps an extra set of eyes? On the surface, it would appear that security was awaiting word of my anticipated theft and was on guard. Where my belongings rummaged through? I'll honestly never know...This experience wasn't as bad as the 3350 Mission Street Safeway, where my belongings were thoroughly searched upon exit on suspicion alone. To Phoenix's credit, they had a bit more tact than their San Francisco Safeway bredren. However, the sight of an African American male shopping healthily without any swine or junk food in their cart or attempting to steal must have gone "against the book". Know that by coming here, you'll be profiled. Know that by coming here, you'll immediately put the staff on high alert. If you're looking to visit this location during your MLB or NBA fan experience, I strongly suggest exercising caution.Overall, this place is not the best place nor admittedly the worst place to go if you're of African descent. However, there are other locations that value not only your business but will also treat you in a respectful manner. As you can see from my other reviews, I have not had the most pleasant experiences lately. However! At great personal risk to myself, I write these reviews based on my experience so that others will benefit from the experiences that I have. I encourage others to SPEAK UP! Your voice can assist others to avoid potentially detrimental situations & as always do your own research!

Starbucks barista Miguel, horrible horrible customer service. Everytime I go in the store hoping to see a new face or to see Alex or Natalie I get disappointed once I see Miguel, always rude to customers, never makes the drinks right, and I peeped while shopping around he is always on his phone! Who gave this man a job?

I work close from this place... every time I go to the meat department those guys are so rude and unfriendly.... I feel like I bother them when I asked for any meat on sale... don't remember their names but everyone from the meat department treated me the same way... why get a job there if you don't know how to treat customers?.... Just get another job.... I don't have a problem with any other employee or cashier but the guys from the meat department are rude and unkind....

Driving by Safeway at lunch and thought l'd stop and get a healthy lunch... bought the eight piece Baked chicken at the hot food counter. OMG, 65 years and I never had such horrible chicken !! Three bites of three different pieces. It was super hard, crunchy, dry and I could not eat it. My two Pit bulls loved it !! Thought they were enjoying a steak bone !! Should have drove all the way back, never again. Guess I should have looked at the Yelp reviews B4 stopping ?? How could a grocery store only have a two star review, now I know !! Never again Safeway !

I've been at this location twice over the last few weeks to grab some dinner from deli on the way home from work. This normally occurs a little after 6pm. Both time the staff working in the deli stated they were closed, even though there was still food present in the hot section. Here's my frustration...how do you close this area when there is a number of people who stop by Safeway for dinner on their way from work. This makes no sense to me. The first time I was thinking maybe it was a outlier due to staffing but twice tells me this is the norm. Just moving to this area I was hoping for a quick stop grocery store on the way home from work. Appears Safeway is not the place.

Wow, if I could, I would give a rating that is less than one star. I live across the fence from Safeway and recently, even though Kroger, Albertsons and Safeway are now all owned as one corporate conglomerate, I have been creating reasons in my mind why I should travel a mile or so to go to a downtown Phoenix location, or even further to the location on Highland or on Thomas and 32nd Street. ....and then it happened, again, but this time I was not willing to be silent as I saw an elderly woman with a full cart of groceries that she had paid for, had a question or had experienced a pricing error and requested it to be looked at, and has happened with me also, the cashier told her she had to go to the end of the line and wait to be helped with the pricing discrepancy she had discovered. "Hey , wait a minute, I have had the same thing happen to me......so I said, "excuse me, that is not the way that a paying client should be treated. Can I please talk with the manager on duty?" The cashier that was behind me decided she had something to contribute and said, "she has to go to the end of that line there are no other "tills" open". Really, you can't help this woman who just paid for a cart of groceries?"I spoke with Rafael who was presented as the manager on duty and explained to him that I had received the same completely inane service in the past and that It needed to be made more evident to the cashiers that the people who are going through their lines are clients/customers and should be treated as such -----not with what I have seen as "late night contempt". If your staff doesn't want to be there to serve your clients until and even after the store has closed, then they need to coached into either learning to think about all customers as valuable or encouraged to pursue another job/profession.

$4.50 for a small bottle of Cholula? TAKE A HIKE!!No they don't have Valentina. At least I scored $2 pringles with card.Prices here are insane. Totally engineered to make you spend more money per visit on the basics.Look for your newspaper deals, and sell your soul for the app if you want any deals here. INSIDE SKINNY:::::: Get the fried chicken at 9AM when it's fresh.Addition::::: Been reading reviews .... Just get your stuff, pay for it and be mellow. The floor ppl are helpful.... If you've ever done customer service you'd be nicer. If you want extra ass-kissing go to AJ's.

Usually has what I'm looking for Safeway is not the store I usually shop at however it's close to home and convenient when I need a quick item or two. Safeway stores are usually clean, the staff are friendly and will help you find items that you're looking for.Not a bad choice when u need an item or two.

I am not generally the kind of person who will go out of my way to a different location, but every time I visit this Safeway, I genuinely regret it. First, I never really feel safe here. Leaving one day, I had to avoid a fist fight that began in the entryway by the carts and went all the way into the store, ending with some woman laying on the floor inside the store. I have seen the cops there more often than I have not, and I have been harassed by strange men in the parking lot. I would 100% not go there after dark. As for the store itself, it is at the low end of ok. The selection is average, but there are better stores in the area to go to (which I do - I would rather drive a few extra miles than deal with this mess.) The self checkout is fairly efficient (although they are consistently filthy), but the last time I used it, the receipt holder broke and a foot of blank receipt came flying out at me. I saw some guy spill his Starbucks all over the floor and no one did anything about it. It just feels like a comedy of errors. I am also not a fan of the pharmacy. My husband had filled a prescription but was unable to pick it up on time, and he tried calling FOUR TIMES over three days to let them know he was running late, but no one ever answered the phone. He even left a voice mail and said that he would be in to pick up the prescription, please do not put it back. They did not bother to listen (much less call back), so when I got back to town to pick it up, I was given a lot of grief by a woman working there. Maybe try answering the phone on occasion and we could avoid this stuff?

I genuinely like this Safeway. It's close to home and the staff is always friendly. I mean it's a grocery store and it's pretty on par with others I've visited

I always shop here while visiting Phoenix. The staff are nice and helpful. The produce is excellent. The club card savings are abundant. On Sundays, you may find some shelves a bit bare from th weekend .

I was just in this store at self-checkout and the surface of the checkout counters were filthy. I asked the clerk to wipe it down before I rang up my expensive groceries. He just looked at me. So, I thought he didn't hear me. He walked past me and I asked again. He said, Just one second, and looked at his watch. Who knows where he went. He didn't wipe the surface. What is up with customer service these days. The work ethic is really lacking at this store.

SAFEWAY'S FLOWERAL DEPARTMENT SAVED THE DAY, IF YOURE SEEING THIS, I APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH YOU HAVE NO IDEACame into the store after leaving a flower shop who advertised a bigger bouquet online and I had called to tell the flower shop to make sure the stems were long so I could hold it for my wedding. I made sure they aware that it was for a wedding. Not only were they not willing to give me my money back, they refused to make it a bigger bouquet or make another that would have longer stems. I have small hands and could still barely hold it with one hand. I would rather come back to this Safeway from the beginning than go to the flower shop. This was one of the important pieces of our wedding and the flower department was able to fix it the day before Valentines Day with no problem, they said so many nice things and were so kind and patient. I couldn't thank them enough
