PLEASE READ!!!! ??????Absolutely wonderful place and wonderful people their heart and soul into helping these beautiful babies! If you would like to help out and donate please do it for these guys they need all the help they can get because of their love their own resources and many hours of caring for these kitties. If you would like to adopt rescue please come here as well you can even volunteer to help them with the babies! I would also like to speak in their behalf on some of the reviews of people being upset for being denied of adoption. The people that take care of these babies are very careful in who the adopt you for many reasons. They know what they are doing these see the bigger picture and do not want to take these kitties some who have been living in horrible situations and put them in another potentially eventually bad situation for them. That makes me respect even more of what these guys are doing I think it is wonderful that they are picky and very careful in who adopt these babies that they also love. Keep up the good work guys! many of us appreciate all that you are doing! And will continue to support you!

I volunteer here and the place is unbelievably well run. The owner and the group of volunteers are so compassionate and work very hard. It's really about the cats. Read between the lines of the 1 star revenge reviews and think about what category of humans would leave a revenge review in the first place, knowing that it makes it harder to find a qualified home for these cats.If you were unqualified to adapt a cat here, which is what all these 1 star reviews are about, look in the mirror.Unqualified meaning, they're 85 years old and want a kitten (do the math), or they want a cat to "serve" a demented relative as sort of a mental stimulation for the relative, or they've had a history of taking a 10 year long pet to the pound because they "couldn't afford" some needed vet treatment, or they have a cat already and let it run around outdoors. Or Grandma wants a kitten to entertain a 5 year old. And so much else. You'll find shelters in Prescott that will give you what you want, regardless to whether you are qualified. The reality is that the bigger the turn-around the shelter has, the more adoption fees they can generate, and the more new cats they can give a chance to. It's a very very tough choice for a shelter and in some ways there isn't a right and wrong. All involved are well meaning. It's just that for this shelter, there's a personal attachment to all that have ended up here, and she (owner) has a commitment to them that involves adopting out only to a person/party that very likely will give this cat a long life of happiness.Come visit. I guarantee you will be shocked at the totally undeserved Google average review. This place is top notch.

i had a cat that got pregnant from one of the feral cats that roams around the caty shack. (i live just up the street) when i asked if they would help me place them or even take them to adopt, i would not take them . i had them spayed and given shots at $80 a cat (4 females) still would not help.this was 3 yers ago and had to take them to spca to house untill adoption costing me more $$.today i went to get a cat for my neighbor that had a stroke a few years ago and was told they don't adopt out to stroke patients. because they are to much trouble (judgmental or what)just asking what they actually do other than GET grants and donations if they don't take cats or adopt them out.looks and feels like a big scam to have free house and income.i would never donate or do any business with this so called non profit organization if you paid me.

We adopted two kittens. They were cute and we just returned them to Catty Shack. We were told the cats were brothers so we took them both. The problem was that they seemed to "egg each other on" and started clawing everything. They would chase each other & crash into the wall. Anything that was left out for a couple minutes was eaten/clawed/etc... They learned to turn the kitchen faucet on. We had to keep the air fryer unplugged, since they figured out how to turn it on.I understand how you need to cat proof a house but I didn't expect to have them totally disrupt our lives. BTW, we've had kittens ^ cats in the past so we knew what we were getting into! The straw that broke the camel's back is when they would jump from the kitchen counter up to the fridge & then up to a shelf that was about nine feet off the ground. There was no way to stop them! It was dangerous for them. One concern is that I'm now reading that they work with "street cats." If these little MONSTERS were ferral cats, we were never told this and wouldn't have adopted them!

We got a kitty from Catty shak this month and he's a wonderful addition to our family. Id visit this place before listening to reviews online. Susan was super chill and made the adoption process very easy. I brought my 3-year-old with me to pick out the kitty so for those of you saying she only adopts to childless and petless families is false.

a few months ago we inquired about one of the kittens at this location, we went through basically a background check to see if we were fit parents, and they never called us back with any update on if they deemed we were fit parents or not. It all seemed very strange. poor communication on the businesses behalf and a weirdly extensive background check by a more than unfriendly lady. Honestly just seems like the lady in charge is just hoarding cats and doesnt want to let them go.

All of the actual employees of this business are amazing. Truly delightful humans. The owner on the other hand…is so awful :( I have been looking for a cat for weeks now and I finally found one here that I was instantly in love with. I went to go visit him several times and everyone at the shelter told me it would be a perfect fit, this is definitely my cat etc etc. I told the shelter in order for my apartment to approve the cat they needed a copy of his vet records, and for me to get him a rabies shot. Simple enough right? I wait a couple days to be approved and then the owner sends me a passive aggressive email saying there are too many “reg flags” with my application. They won’t email you a copy of their vet info unless you’re already approved for the cat. They don’t do rabies shots there (which I already knew) but they look at you like a monster for bringing it up and trying to be communicative. I understand loving your cats and doing your best to protect them. But I have owned cats my whole life…I know what I’m doing. She’s more focused on turning away perfectly good candidates than she is on saving more cats from the street. Speaks volumes about her character. This is the same lady that wouldn’t let me grandma adopt a cat a while back because she was “too old”. Really breaks my heart how mean people can be :(

I adopted a senior and a baby. Both were well cared for and even loved by the staff.
