Doctor Kaplan is absolutely rude and unprofessional does not deserve to be in practice

Office staff cancelled my appointment because I couldn’t call them within a few hours while I was working the day before my appointment. Definitely not worth the 1 month wait in my mind.

Horrible. After relocating from PNW to Arizona, I needed a new primary care doctor and found Kaplan on the internet. After a year, I've only ever seen his PA and and a PA trainee. The level of "care" is basically malpractice. When I went in with an eye infection that was worsening over a period of weeks and painful, the trainee saw me. She never examined my eye. When I tried to explain the symptoms, she argued with me that I had a "stye". The licensed PA came in, but he also did not examine me. No one shined a light in my eye or even looked at it. I was prescribed nothing and told to just keep washing my eye. When I presented with concern about a growth on my neck that I could feel with my fingers, the PA did not examine it. He told me it was a fatty tumor and if I gained weight, that this would conceal it. Unbelievable. It is clear that Dr. Kaplan is maximizing profit by delegating his work to a PA and nurses. This is not a real primary care physician's office. I haven't found a good primary care physician in SV yet, but I can tell you that this place should be avoided!

Been with Dr Kaplans office for years but went in today with major neuropathy pain and Mr Halderson just sent me home. No help at all. Guess I need to seek help from someone else.

Have you ever said to yourself, "I love this doctor's office"? I never had either until I experienced Kaplan Clinic. Dr. Clay is my PCP and the whole office is just very friendly and responsive. They truly care about your wellbeing and want to help you maintain your health. Same day appointment? No problem. Need a refill? Done. As someone else said, you won't experience this level of caring and responsiveness anywhere else in Sierra Vista. Or anywhere else for that matter!

Feel fortunate to have John Clay as our primary care doc. Highly recommend him. Best doctor I've had, easy to talk to. Entire staff very courteous and professional. A person will actually answer the phone when you call! I kid you not! Lolol.

I didn’t think it was possible to love a doctors office but I LOVE this one. My whole family sees Halderson. He is amazing with adults but even better with kids. His nurse is the sweetest, most considerate human. We had an emergency and they got us right in. The wonderful ladies at the front desk even kept my little one entertained while Halderson took a look at my daughter. I haven’t had a good doctors office in years let alone one with such amazing and loving staff. Huge thank you to Dr. Kaplan’s office we will be seeing y’all for years!!

I first saw Dr Kaplan in early 2020. I had recently moved here from out of state. My blood sugars were high and I saw him right after a visit to the E.R. To control my spiked blood sugar level the E.R. Doctor prescribed 25 units of my Quikpen administered Novalog and 35 units of Humulin via syringe twice daily “until I was evaluated by my primary physician”. My first visit with Kaplan consisted of the standard temp and blood pressure check followed by a visit from the Dr. Kaplan asked what meds I was taking and the doses. He then said call my office when you need a refill and see you in six months. That was it. No call for a full blood work up. Just a see you in six months. Dr Kaplan has Residents who met with me after that. I went to see Dr. Jokerst for my shoulder. He was a caring Dr. and I was happy to be seen by him. But he was a resident and dealt with my specific complaints. My vision suddenly was hampered and I went to Cochise eye and laser and a dr there said nothing to be concerned about. Said you don’t have diabetic retinopathy or macular degeneration. See me in six months as it will improve over time. I waited two months. It was getting worse. Saw a specialist in Tucson who advised I had diabetic retinopathy and immediately started eye injections monthly. It’s been 12 months of shots. I called Kaplan’s office to ask for an A1C as my specialist had sent notes to Kaplan’s office asking them to do A1C tests. I called to ask why none was scheduled for me. Staff said letters from specialist did not specifically state that an A1C was needed. I made an appt with Kaplan. He had a new resident on this visit. He had the resident do a foot test. Kaplan chuckled when he looked over at my feet and said have you seen a podiatrist? I said no. He laughed and said well ok. He did a finger check for blood. He asked if I was still on the 25/35 plan. I asked what that was. He said 25 units of Novalog and 35 units of Humulin twice daily. Knowing if I did that I would be in a coma by now I advised Kaplan I was using the sliding scale. He said you need to stick to the 25/35 plan to get ahead of the diabetes. I thought what a quack. He is going back a year and a half to give me instructions I received from a discharging ER doctor to do until I saw my primary. I told Kaplan I had been receiving eye injections for 12 months. He commented that he had never heard of such a procedure and asked his resident if he had and the resident said no. I knew Jokerst would be leaving in June do I immediately changed over to canyon vista medical group, where on my first visit they ordered a full blood work up. Kaplan is not the Dr for me for sure!!

Dr Kaplan has been my primary Dr for 18 months. In that time I have seen Dr Kaplan twice. I have also seen his Resident in training, Dr Jokerst twice. Each visit with Dr Jokerst has been excellent. He is a caring Dr. I saw him once for an issue with my shoulder. I am a diabetic. Before I ever saw Dr Kaplan I had moved from California. During my move I had run out of two types of insulin I take Novalog - quick acting and Humulin -long acting. I went to the E.R. And the treating dr lowered my blood sugar levels. His departing instructions were "Take 25 Units of Novalog and 35 units of Humulin R until I could get in to see my primary. The hospital followed up with me daily until I saw my primary, Dr Marc Kaplan. Kaplan took my vitals and said at that time I should use stick to the 25/35 plan (as he called it) and said call me with your current Ned list that needed refilling and he would see me in six months. I knew immediately that if I stuck to his 25/35 plan I would end up in a coma so I began using the sliding scale. I saw His resident Dr Jokerst two times after that in 2020. I wish Jokerst was my primary as he was a caring doctor who helped with any issues I had on my visits. My diabetes was a little higher than normal, as COVID-19 was afoot and I did eat a few more sweets but stayed only slightly above normal with my insulin usage. I had Kaiser for years when living in another state and they followed up with me regularly for A1c tests every 3 months. I never heard from Kaplan's office. In mid 2020 I was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy by a specialist I went to in Tucson, where I receive monthly eye injections to this day and for the last 11 months. My eye specialist asked me early when was my last AIC. I told him when I was in the hospital when my insulin was high when I moved here in January 2020. He said he would send a note to my dr to get an A1C. I never heard from Kaplan's office. Last week I wanted to know why so I called to make an appt with Kaplan and I asked the front desk why they never called me for an A1C. They said the specialist did send a letter to inform my primary of my condition, but that was all the letter said. They never called me and filed the letter. When I saw Dr Kaplan he said my A1c was 7.9 and asked me if I was sticking to the plan. I responded with "what plan?" He said the 25/35 plan? I asked if he realized that the 25/35 plan was an E.R. Doctors instructions UNTIL I saw my primary. His response was that we needed to "get ahead" of my A1c. I asked why no one ever called to schedule an A1c. He said that is the patients sole responsibility. When I told him my eye specialist sent them a letter requesting one and that I had been having eye injections for 11 months, he said, referring to the eye injections, that he had never heard of such a thing. He turned to a new resident dr that was with him and said have you? The resident said no. He then did a foot exam (well the Resident did). Dr Kaplan looked over at my feet and said have you ever seen a podiatrist? I said no. He chuckled, shook his head and said ok. I was thinking how bad are my feet for him to say that. I was embarrassed and couldn't wait to get out of there. I moved to a new medical group and they immediately started with a full blood work up. I told a long Story, I know. But Dr Kaplan is really bad Dr when it comes to understanding how to care for a patient in my opinion. I hope anyone who reads this thinks long and hard about choosing him as a primary doctor. I believe he is a quack just collecting a paycheck. Although I think Jokerst is a great doctor, I believe Kaplanis a complete fool and a quack who could have killed ne with his 25/35 insulin plan!!

My family has used the services of Dr. Marc Kaplan, his Nurse Practitioners and his office staff for over 20 years. Dr. Kaplan genuinely cares about his patients, something that sets him apart from other doctors in our area. His nurse practitioners are first rate, hand selected individuals that are knowledgeable, accurate and know their craft. Eric Halderson can be singled out as the best nurse practitioner I have ever used. His advice is straight forward, up-to-date and accurate. The office staff here is responsive, quick to return calls and does their best to get you in as soon as possible. Of special note is Laura, who handles the referrals. She knows how to get things done quickly and accurately and always goes the "extra mile" to help patients get what they need. An outstanding office, and an outstanding team.
