Housing instability is a major issue throughout this first world country.I went to The Salvation Army looking for support.Resources are scarce.Food is mostly donated when it is old or expired.Shelter residents are forced to clean the facility with no compensation. If their “chores” are not completed they get written up, and can get up to expulsion from the organization and city location.Power plays and internal politics create tense environments and people employed to be there (to serve the crisis stricken shelter inhabitants, mind you) walk around wearing walkie talkies loudly talking about people in situations with obvious code words to describe people. It’s all a bit much.I joined for dinner and was given two choices: chicken or beef. Beef please. I received my plate of rice (with speckles of food bits in it), extremely overcooked sautéed bell peppers , and a hefty burrito ? (donated by Chipotle) wrapped in foil.At 6:30 pm, it was my first meal of the day, so after we found folding chairs against the wall, we sat down at the folding tables.Taking a HUGE bite out of my burrito ? I quickly found out that the ingredients in the burrito were my biggest allergens.I couldn’t take it back.I couldn’t ask for a substitution. My only options were: eat or don’t eat.Eat and be in physical pain, with a slew of symptoms from the allergic reaction that will ensue. Or. Don’t eat and simply be hungry.I had no other food, so I ate. There are many signs on the wall that bark orders and policies to the residents. The residents in crisis come in, are fed whatever (even if they can’t eat it), then forced to do chores (and has severe consequences if those chores are not done). Here is my meal. Two grown men yelled and cussed each other out because of an alleged altercation. Some sat paralyzed. Some cried. Some just put their heads down and ate.We must do better. Talk to ANY of the residents. They will tell you how they are kicked out EVERY DAY, except for church on Sunday. Not allowed ? inside until almost sunset ?, stolen from, eating old and expired food, sleeping on beds that I can’t even begin to describe the situation… let us not blind our eyes to these things. Revisit them (and not just during Christmas seasons). They need a little help. Let’s give them the help they’ve been waiting for.Love Delia

No bed, bed bugs, rampant substance abuse, if you sleep on the lawn there's no access to a bathroom from 9am to 530am

My review is on the Thanksgiving dinner. It was excellent the food was awesome. The staff was very attentive and they seemed to care a lot about everybody who showed up to eat there. I will definitely be returning next year. I really enjoyed it. And thank you to all of the volunteers you guys made what would have been a very depressing day for me and others as well as I have no place to go and no family here so much better. God bless all of you.

I'm only giving a star because it's the only way to leave a review. I'm better off in my truck, than being treated like a criminal just because I'm having hard times! I was actually looking forward to a shower till they started talking about searching our personal belongings, I might as well go to Benton County Jail!

A little odd too make homeless people run the streets during the day instead should provide cover too save money. Library for 8 hrs is ridiculous ? my opinion only

No one knows more bout this shelter more than me it was my home for almost a year when I fell.and broke my hip the monitors went out of their way to do anything for me especially jean mentzer those that r complaining bout the food etc need to be more grateful I also was a monitor at the shelter for awhile and all I can say is it is not easy running a shelter doing what they do and believe me there is a lot more involved to being a monitor than just passing out towels and answering phone and no I did not see one bed bug

This place needs to have a visit from the health department!!! Rats and bedbugs everywhere! Urinal overflows everyday, instead of fixing it , they throw down towels to soak up our urine then give us the towels back to use after showers! Black mold everywhere! They do absolutely nothing to make this a livable place!!!

My fiance got tore up with bed bugs. They have their favorites. One girl in particular stole from all the girls cause she was able to stay in when everyone else is made to leave. She even spit on a monitor and then threatened my fiance. Thanks for the food and the bed bugs.

They gave us a place to sleep witch we are grateful. But we were treated horrible and they did not help us even though we both had jobs even our teenage son got a job we all has jobs with in a week. Long story short they were mean rude and weren't helpful in finding us a place to live.. we did it on our own
