Neat old fashioned bookstore with interesting selection. Cash only, no phones allowed, and smells like old building but these things didn't really bother me. The owner comes off strong but is pleasant if you are chill.

Cute little place, but could feel the prickliness of the older, apparently lefty (judging by all the social justice-related books), owner/cashier immediately, on her phone and ignoring me as I walked in right past her. Other customers came after me a few minutes later and got the barked "no cellphones" (okay for her but not for her customers) or pictures rule. I don't really get it but whatever, maybe she doesn't want people comparing prices online. Chose a book, but she helped a couple of locals first who came in as I reached the register. Won't take payment cards, only cash (not a big deal but I'd have bought more if she did). Can't give in to those capitalist, card-issuing banks I guess. The funny thing is, when she saw I was buying a book by a local historian she got real friendly and talkative and it ended up a relatively pleasant experience, lol! I may be back again for more local books, but YMMV. Not sure how she stays in business TBH. You'll catch more flies with honey, honey, rather than swatting them all dead the second they walk in your store.

We enjoyed meeting the owner and hearing some history about the town. She was very friendly and welcoming. The assortment of books is very thoughtful. Loved her selection of children’s books especially. Will definitely visit the store on future trips.

There's a lot of negative reviews from this bookstore about the owners. My husband and I went in fully prepared to be harassed by the owner to find a very nice older woman who simply and plainly asked us not to use our phones in the store. I brought cash from reading previous reviews stating it was cash only so I wouldn't run into any problems at checkout and we really enjoyed the nice selection this little store has. We picked out a couple things and went to check out and I had a very pleasant conversation with the owner about folklore and the Fae and my favorite books on them. Bottom line is, just respect the rules she gives in HER store and be polite. Don't go in expecting to have a negative experience like we did.

I only lasted in the store 1 minute. The rank, fetid odor of absolute mold and mildew had my stomach turning in knots. There is no way to describe the intense reek. I was in a panic to get out of the shop before I vomited. I held my hand over my face and dry heaved my way out of the store. The place is a health hazard and unfit for the public.

First of all, it STINKS really bad in here. Like a moldy basement.Second, like everyone else has said, the owner barks her no phone and drink policy. The selection of books wasn’t great anyway, but after being treated like a naughty child upon entering, there is no way I’d buy anything from her.And third, I took a picture of her shop from the outside out of spite!

I look forward to stopping by this store whenever I’m in Eureka. The space is cozy, and has this unusual (but in a good way) smell that makes me feel nostalgic or dreamlike in a way. I always find books that I’ve never been able to find in other stores, specifically for yoga, meditation, alternative health, as well as children’s books. I’ve seen some reviews saying that the owner is rude. I have not experienced this. I’ve been here many times and have always been treated extremely kindly. When you go into the store, she will ask you to not use your phone or take photos while there. You will also have to pay with cash or check. Are these rules unusual? Yes. Are you in a town that is known for doing things in a usual way? No. People go to Eureka because it’s got a unique feel to it. Embrace the unusual policies and I think you’ll have a great experience. I always do.

Went in because I was walking by and I like book stores. The older lady behind the counter, I do not know if she's the owner or an employee, got upset that I had my phone out and told me to leave if I was going to be on my phone. The place was empty and I can't imagine I was bothering anyone by speaking softly and looking at my phone; certainly when I'm in a bookstore or library someone speaking softly doesn't bother me.The lady in question needs to realize that, in the 2020s, people are on their phones almost nonstop, for work or for pleasure. This attitude, not specifically towards phones but this general attitude towards potential customers that I've encountered in multiple industries, is why small brick and mortar stores are going away. Why would I go to a store where the operator seems annoyed that I'm there when I could go to a big chain store where I don't bother the employees and they don't bother me? Or better yet, buy and sell online. The only reason I can see why these stores are still around is they must have a core of like-minded customers who frequent the place, and in a generation or two they'll all be gone and small mom and pop places will be through, for all the good and bad that entails.

DO NOT go onto this bookstore thinking you will buy a book. Go into this bookstore thinking you will encounter the rudest salesperson on the planet. Be prepared to be scolded like a child as the rules are barked at you. Expect a lecture on how wonderful socialism is and horrible capitalism is. If you want some real fun, rebut her socialistic ideals by saying you love the Constitution and that the Founding Fathers were brilliant men with great foresight. You'll be in for a treat as she hurls insults at you and all that is American. When you decide you've had enough and actually try to leave, don't be surprised if she blocks the door while she continues her rant. Finally, once you've escaped the nastiness and think you are safely down the sidewalk, you may hear the door reopen and even more insults yelled in your direction. She's really not interested in selling you a book.

CAVEAT EMPTOR"The one real bookstore in town is run by hideous fabulous monsters, sisters. A basilisk and a manticore. One keeps her eyeballs in a jar in her pocket and eats bugs; the other has a long wooden tail and lives on Hobo Fear Sweat and spinal fluid. Their feet leave singe marks where they walk. When they sneeze, little alien babies cry in their sleep on other planets. One out of 217 customers inevitably joins the statue garden located out back, frozen tears running down frozen cheeks. Plus no discount for locals. Zero stars out of five because the stars wink out in their baleful presence. No joke. Amazon delivers."

I’ve Been here twice and horrible experiences each time. I have loved the people of Eureka Springs every visit, they are incredibly lovely, but this book store welcomes you with rudeness and it continues through the visit. My experience is the same as many others.

Seems this is just how this book store is. Same experience as the rest. I love small book stores and make a point to seek them out and purchase a book. Walking in, you don't feel welcome. We were told the no phones/pictures policy and asked to leave our drinks. Ok, not a problem. After selecting a book I wanted, I walked up and wanted to purchase. Was told cash or check only. Would of liked to be told that when we walked in. I told her we don't have cash and would not be able to purchase. I asked my boyfriend to write the name of the book so I could add it my list. The lady grabbed the book back and said no notes! You either get it here or leave. Told her I would love to shop here but she is making it difficult by not accepting cards. Sorry to have to leave without giving you my money. The lady is very hostile and rude.
