My elderly mother has a checking account at Regions Bank, and when she was diagnosed with Dementia I became her legal guardian due to incompetency. I live in Wisconsin, so I moved my mother here so I could care for her. Since she will never be able to return to Arkansas, I decided to close her checking account a Regions Bank. I prepared a letter to Regions Bank explaining my situation and requested that the Bank close her account and send a check of her balance. I included with the letter my court documents proving I was now her court appointed legal guardian. I had already removed all the funds in the account except for just over $50, as to maintain the minimum balance so she would not be charged any fees while I waited for her check. Months went by and Regions Bank did not send a response to my letter, not the check they owed or anything. They didn't even send a letter explaining why they would not close her account. They just ignored my request. Then I got my mother's bank statement, and they had charged my mom an $8 fee. For what??? There was no reason for the fee and they didn't explain why she was charged. Now her balance is below the minimum which means they can slowly drain her account, and basically keep a sick elderly woman's last dime. Anyone who would steal an elderly person's last $50 are low life's in my book. This bank is run by lowlife scumbags who will take the last few dollars from an elderly Dementia patient who needs it desperately to pay her growing medical bills. Avoid this bank like the plague. They don't deserve your business.
