Hands down the best place to shoot ducks! We had a group of 6 hunters and we all had the best experience! Everything from lodging, guides and cooks were top notch! Don’t forget to ask for the peach cobbler!

For someone who never hunted before this was a great experience. The lodge is a wonderful home while you are here and the guides do a great job of getting everything for the hunting side up and running. On the lodge -- it really is a comfortable place to relax, unwind, and have a great time. There is a fire pit outside to warm the night with great conversation and more than enough room inside to take in some TV, eat, or otherwise entertain yourself. The only down side is that you need to bring your own when it comes to everything outside of a rental gun and white hoodies for snow geese -- and I mean everything. For the seasoned person this might not be a second thought but for a casual experience this can be a real trick. A private chef hire for cooking for a reasonably sized group could make (or break) the entire experience for a group. Though all of the logistics were outside of my space I really don't know where all of this magic (or lack there of) comes from. The bottom line was there were basically two large groups taking up the place when I was there. Theirs was firing on all cylinders back at the lodge and ours sucked. The larger problem, when you are not prepared right, is that the area is thin on everything and there are laws relating to the sale (as in it being illegal) of liquor on the weekends. To make matters worse the speed limits change quickly and the local enforcement cracks down on anyone not from the area. With all of the above, yes, I am still a fan. However, you need to be well prepared and understand the logistics of the area to have a truly great time.

Amazing experience!! Four of us passing through town and called Greg last minute for a hunt. He not only fit us in last minute, but guided us himself, cooked us steaks when we arrived after 10pm and then help d us limit out on birds by 8am. The lodge is immaculate, rooms, beds and bathrooms are very comfortable, clean and private. We will be back!!

High class duck hunting. Wide variety of habitats and ducks throughout the area. Great guides and even better food. Games at the lodge including pool, shuffleboard, ping pong, cards. Relaxing and exciting!

This place is fantastic. Greg runs a great operation and the atmosphere of the lodge is something that will keep me coming back. It's kinda like Greg built a huge party house, invites you to the party, feeds you amazing food, gives you free access to all the beer and top shelf booze, then takes off and prays the place doesn't burn down... My brother-in-law and I met several great guys and each night typically ended with a game of cards and fast asleep when the head hit the pillow. The lodge is immaculate and housekeeping cleans and provides fresh linens daily. Beds are very comfortable. Guides are at the top of their game and were fantastic. I realize I'm reviewing a duck lodge, and haven't mentioned hunting yet, but it's in the heart if the duck capital of the world... Nuff said.

This was one of the best vacation experiences my wife and I have ever had anywhere on the planet (and yes, we've been to a lot of it) and easily the most impressive hunting lodge I've ever been to. The facilities and accommodation are first class. The wood and stone interior of the lodge is a perfect balance of rustic and refined, with an enormous fireplace that creates a strikingly beautiful and majestic centerpiece for the main room of the building. Rooms were very comfortable with large beds, good amount of floor and closet space for all our luggage and supplies, and a somewhat simple but very comfortable bathroom with a very roomy shower. Food was excellent and plentiful, and the open bar was most welcoming and well stocked. Outside there's a VERY nice pavilion with a fire pit and two TV's, perfect for relaxing outside while enjoying a drink and cigar or just the open air. On to the experience. Before you get out the door or come back in it, naturally there's a mud room for putting on and taking off waders, stuffing/unstuffing jackets and gear bags, etc., but not just any mud room, a first rate one. It's complete with boot dryers, wader hanging racks, a long gun rack along the front wall, and benches to sit on to handle all the pre- and post- hunt chores easily and comfortably. Yes, I'm serious, the mud room is impressive. Once out the door, you're paired up with a guide for your party, which can be 5-6 people or as few as 2, depending on your choice, availability of guides, and so forth. We hunted two mornings and had a different guide and field each time, both excellent. Preparation and timeliness were quite good, and service with transportation, tagging ducks, pictures, and other miscellaneous assistance was fantastic. Being able to buy licenses and duck stamps on the spot makes that aspect very simple and convenient. Our guide the first day was Greg, and the second day was Dallas, both excellent guides and great friends--half the experience was the hunt itself with the ducks and nature, the other half the conversation, learning, and sharing of common appreciation for the goodness of the outdoors and people who enjoy it. Oh, did I mention this was my wife's first hunting experience? She LOVED it. Everyone was SUPER nice to her and as helpful and welcoming as they could be, both staff and fellow guests. One thing that I can say makes Buckshot Lodge stand out is the way they instill such a sense of camaraderie and fellowship: you feel like everyone's your friend there, guides, staff, and fellow hunters. We made a lot of great connections with the people hunting there, one group having been four previous years and the other ten, and came to readily appreciate how they liked being there at the same time every year to get to hunt with the same people again. We certainly hope to as well. This is a refreshing experience for the soul, definitely satisfying for any hunter beginning or expert, excellent in every way that counts. Perfectly off the beaten path, totally unpretentious with a simple natural grace and purity of Southern warmth and elegance--a welcomed contrast to overly touristy and often disgustingly artificial resort style places. This lodge embodies what is great about America's great hunting heritage and culture and makes you proud to be part of it.
