About Bayou Bluff Recreation Area
Bayou Bluff Recreation Area is a peaceful and enjoyable outdoor spot located near Little Rock, just over an hour's drive away. It offers a variety of activities suitable for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors appreciate the beautiful views of the Illinois Bayou and the water features that make the area perfect for swimming, wading, and floating. There are spots with shallow and deeper water, and many fish can be seen, making it a popular destination for diving and exploring the water. The park has a small but well-maintained campground with three large sites, each featuring a stone shelter with a fireplace. Campsites are spacious, accommodating multiple tents, and there are picnic tables and firepits. Nearby, there's a larger abandoned campground and a creek swimming area that is best enjoyed when water levels are low. The area includes a trail along the bluff that is well-marked and kept up, leading to additional campsites and scenic views. Facilities include bathrooms—some are outhouses, which are kept fairly clean thanks to volunteers—and a large pavilion with plenty of picnic tables for gatherings. Visitors also enjoy the presence of stone shelters, firepits, and the opportunity for hiking, fishing, and camping. While some paths are overgrown and parts of the area need repair, overall, it remains a well-loved spot where families can relax, play, and enjoy nature. There is no fee to access the campgrounds, and visitors are encouraged to leave no trash behind to help maintain its beauty.
