What an awesome place. The history and the boats. I'd love to live in the area so i could use the row boats and the woodworking shop. I'd even take a course there.

This Maritime Centre can be found on Cowichan Bay Road, serving as a community hub for various courses & merchandise. In case you’re curious, here are some sample questions that you might find helpful.Q - What maritime tales would they disclose if historic exhibits & buildings could talk?Q - What do media accounts reveal about maritime conditions?Due to rapidly changing ocean currents, the fluctuating ocean conditions can be challenging for even the most experienced maritime workers, including fishers.Unfortunately, in 2020, two men lost their lives when their boat, the Arctic Fox 11, sank under harsh maritime conditions. The term: "maritime" is often associated with the ocean and can relate to business or defence matters. Brendan Strain's article, "Cowichan Bay Mourns Loss of 2 Men Aboard Sunken Fishing Boat," detailed this tragic event. In 2019 Robert Barron of the Vancouver Island Free Daily wrote about a business in Cowichan Bay that needed to retrieve un-personed boats that seemed to have come adrift in stormy conditions on January 3, 2019. Sometimes people fall off vessels, and they could experience, for example, exposure and hypothermia. In 2017, the Editor from CTV Vancouver Island wrote in an article about a “Five-year-old forced to hit kill switch after 3 thrown from boat in Cowichan Bay” reported that two adults and a child fell into the water while retrieving a crab pot. Still, thankfully a proprietor of an eco-tour vessel assisted and guided a five-year-old child who had remained on the boat to engage the kill switch.Smaller boats such as kayaks, canoes, and pleasure or commercial vessels often need more equipment for navigation and retrieval, making them vulnerable to harsh and changeable conditions. Being well-trained, experienced, cautious and equipped with a well-stocked survival kit in an emergency is often essential.

This very interesting seaside village of Cowichan Bay presents a marine focused structure that was very inviting to wander through with amazement..there was a wide variety of boats situated along the walkable pier and wharf..the entire area is full of adventure and natural beauty and open to strolling investigation..the tourist information centre provides information on what to see and visit…the Cowichan Bay Boat Society operates the community based maritime museum…

It is a great place to learn about maritime history, take classes on wooden boat building, and even do annual maintenance on your boat.

OK, you have to be a maritime nut to appreciate it solely for its material, but what I loved about it is that it is all done by volunteer locals. People put years of work into some of the model ships.t together. They had a huge display of outboard motors. What is really interesting to me is people got together and assembled all of this. What as sense of Community! You'll find many things here to love.
