We had a wonderful experience at Vancity last week. We had an unusual situation and the staff, including the assistant manager, worked with us to find a creative solution that worked for us. We left feeling valued and grateful.

Talk about a decline in service! I have been with Vancity Mission BC branch since 2007. I primarily use a no-fee free online chequing account from one of their competitors as why pay bank fees when you don't need to? I have kept my account open purely for the ability to direct transfer to my mom who still uses vancity for all day to day banking, I will be helping her switch this soon after this experience.
I noticed my debit card was expired. I rarely use my debit card as I use online banking and transfer funds to/from a no-fee bank account with an online only canadian bank. I thought great go in to bank, see an actual teller this will be nice easy & quick. I mean isn't that the point of wasting money on bank fees? the ability to go in and get good service from a human?
No I get some 35ish year old brunette who has zero personality & clearly doesn't care about her job or retaining accounts/clients. After waiting 10+ minutes well they turtle about with the senior citizens in front of me I get to counter and give the girl my expired debit card and my bcid.
After waiting a few mins shes still just silent staring at her screen.. I ask whats taking so long and she instantly got deffensive, "im doing my job computers are slow" "I see you have more than one card" I tell her I dont know where it is and she says she will cancel them both.... a few mins later shes still just going turtle speed.. I ask why its taking so long again and mention that if i was getting a replacement card from my online no fee bank, simply go to website, request card and they mail me one out.. why is this taking so long in branch... she gets frustrated and told me I could've done it online with vancity as well... Admitting that it would've been more simple for me to use an online service that talk to her useless self in branch..
At this point I say whatever just ask your damn questions, get me a new card or just cancel my account as I hardly use it and why would I when service is so poor and vancity charges bank fees.. might as well stick with my free alternative...
Another few mins pass and shes still just turtling along.. I ask whats going on and she says shes in process of closing my account...
No attempt to save/retain customer...nothing....still taking forever so I ask how long and she says I can leave If I want.... GLADLY....
Honestly anyone who still pays for this mediocre service really should consider one of the no-fee online banking options and never have to go in an deal with these useless tellers...

I used to take money out and not use my card because they charge me an arm and a leg, went there once and somebody asked me why i dont use my card, when i stated i didn't like being charged per transaction he insisted i use my card anyways because its more convenient. " you might as well use it " hed say. $1.25 per transaction minimun and it was 1.75 to see a teller about 7 months ago, i imagine its gone up

Terrible customer service. worst bank ever. Been a member for 20 years yet they could care less about keeping their members. Constantly making mistakes and I'm left to call and chat to numerous people about the same issue. Not to mention online is always down. Leaving for a new bank!

I'm not sure if it's a small branch, or because they cycle through staff regularly, but it just seems like most staff are undertrained and aren't up on how all of the systems work. Or maybe there's just an issue with their internal systems. Whatever it is, we're now ready to switch banks. The latest issue was with sending a wire transfer, which took half an hour to complete, and then they overcharged us for a wire-transfer. They charged us the international rate, when it should have been the domestic rate for an in Canada charge. The worst was when they said they cancelled our line of credit, but then kept charging us the fees. It took four tries to get that thing closed.
