Zero stars.
Customer service used to be great but really went downhill after it was went from co-op to company and continues to decline. They are seriously understaffed, with long lines for customer service who clearly aren’t providing much help given the number of frustrated customers. Staff are not trained and don’t have the expertise to answer basic questions about products. I brought in a MEC brand product with a damaged zipper, with record of purchase. In the past this would have been an easy repair or exchange, but now they will do nothing to help you. Thanks for wasting my time. Seriously disappointed in the direction MEC has gone.

The store still has good products but the staff/employees aren't trained and if you have any questions you are on your own. I feel since ownership has changed they don't value customer service.

This location used to have a pile of used tires out back, some of them were new with slight defects others lightly used. I guess MEC prefer to send them to a landfill or be reprocessed rather than do the eco-friendly thing and alow people to take the good ones. I hate to see this level of corporate greed at the cost of our planet. Shame

First time at MEC—think of it as REI USA’s cool Canadian cousin. Great location with plenty of parking and an impressive selection of outdoor gear. I was looking for trail running shoes and faced a problem of plenty. The staff was super friendly, and a special shout-out to Manroop, who went out of her way to find me the perfect pair. Highly recommended!

So disappointing. I called the store, spoke to the first available... Asked for the bike shop, they said that I need to come into the store with my bike. Asked to speak to Kyle.. "sorry, no exceptions" ..... To speak to the bike shop mech? Awesome. Thanks. I guess I'll take my mec brand bike to another vendor to fix?

Do you like outdoor activities? You can find anything for any sport, ok ok prices are $$-$$$ but the quality is really good plus the staff have all the knowledge and help you with the best advice!!
The store is really big, at least you will spend 1 hour. Wheelchair accesible.

How is this store still open? Few if any prices on any gear or shelf; dirty, soapless bathrooms; and most importantly, few employees have any level of knowledge about the equipment or clothing. It's pretty obvious management is the problem; they're either completely inept or low-key masochistic towards clients and employees. Maybe both. Yikes.

An overall nice experience with nice custommer service. There was only one issue. As tourists from Europe we came to buy bear spray. The day of the purchase we were told we could give them the spray afterwards and they would dispose of it for us. However a week later they told us, they do not dispose of bear sprays anymore (and I dont think it happened in that week). Its ok, mistakes happen, it was just a big problem for us searching for a place to get rid of it before our departure. They tried to help us - maybe call the police, they could dispose of it for us. After reading some notes online (about the police sending people around and back to the store) we decided to try elsewhere (a waste management service).
TLDR: they do not dispose of bear spray :)

EDIT: Changed the review after exchanging a damaged bike saddle. The Rock Solid Guarantee rules.
Decent selection, but the product quality is questionable. Had to return a bike light and a recently acquire bicycle seat started cracking within the second month of use. Also had issues with next-day pickup that actually took close to 5 days. Overall experience could be better.

Called on July 9 2024 for 3 cardboxes to fly our bikes back to Switzerland. MEC told me, that's ok but I should call 10 days before to remind them. Called again July 22 to do so and was told everything was ok and that I would not need a written confirmation (Reese). The day before our flight departed we called again to be sure and were told that they did not remember anything. Never have felt so let down by a shop. This litterally is a zero trust culture. Would give zero stars if I could. Shame. Never go there.

Torres was unbelievably knowledgeable and experienced, led me around the store and helped me find amazing hiking boots. Will be coming back to MEC North Van for more!

Great service! I recently purchased a bike for my dad and the bike understandably had some minor issues, but the staff at MEC North Van were amazing. I wish I could remember their names, but all the 3 gentlemen that assisted us were kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. Even other employees would smile as they walked by us.

Giving it a high rating because of Teresa! She helped me pick out sleeping pads and went above and beyond to help me get a deal on the floor model because they didn’t have any more of that specific item in stock.
The young lady at the checkout could probably have been a bit more nicer but because you have people like Teresa, it balances out!
