They were extra friendly to a dog before and today the dog was shaking because he was so extremely tempted by the smell coming from in here so he got to try the beef heart from here today. It's kind of scary to try but this place seems trustworthy thankfully. The frozen raw food made for dogs seems good too

I'm always smiling coming out of this place. It's so nice to have a local butcher rather than just pick up some sealed 2nd-grade meat from a big supermarket. It reminds me of why I love cooking so much.
The staff are Knowledgable and skilled with their knives. You can tell they actually enjoy their work and take pride in it. They can give you cuts to your liking, amazing news for someone who usually cooks for one, and equally amazing news for chefs with specific needs, or just anyone who doesn't enjoy trimming their own silverskin! When all is said and done, you're left with fresh, high-quality meat, a smile on your face and all at quite a reasonable price as well!

The best meat shop ever!
The quality of each item in the whole store is so carefully and meticulously crafted and the animals so happy and healthy you can taste it in every bite. I wish I could buy everything from here every day from the eggs to the chicken to the incredible beef and steak cuts, to my favorite the Lamb!

I think it’s great that they offer sustainable meat in a butcher-shop atmosphere but the staff is not educated in cuts of meat and seem rushed and rude.

Never again - purchased 2 beef skewers and a pack of beef ribs for the long weekend.
Beef skewers were dry rubbed with unknown mix and so insanely salty, absolutely inedible.
Beef ribs were god-awful terrible. Opened the bag and the meat smelled off but we weren’t sure. The meat was packed on August 2 or 3 and it was the 4th, so we rinsed them under water to get all the blood off. Placed them on the barbecue and a strange foam produced on the meat. Bubbles. The meat smelled putrid and tasted awful. A bunch of black flies also suddenly appeared (wish I thought to take a photo then) which then disappeared when we barbecued meat we purchased from elsewhere.
It was such a gross experience. LOL
Never going here again.

I just read in the Vancouver sun that this company was founded by Jasmin and Felix Schellenberg who are the directors of Altheer & Schellenberg Cattle Ltd.
They were reported as having been fined more than half a million dollars for a string of acts that damaged fisheries habitat along the Chilcotin and Kleena Kleen rivers. According to a statement from Fisheries and Oceans Canada , Altheer & Schellenberg Cattle Ltd. of Williams Lake has been involved in three incidents of habitat destruction over the past few years that has resulted in fines of $545,000. The DFO says that in October 2022 following a guilty plea the company was ordered to pay a fine of $280,000 for “serious violations of Canada’s Fisheries Act.” The company again pleaded guilty in February 2023 to violations of Canada’s Fisheries Act, B.C.’s Water Sustainability Act and the B.C. Forest and Range Practices Act.
Most recently, on May 28, a company contractor Bayliff Enterprises Ltd. pleaded guilt to violations of the Fisheries Act and the Forest and Range Practices Act and was fined a total $135,000.
“The major habit destruction involved in these cases resulted from the removal of riparian habitat vegetation, infilling of side channels, fish passage obstructions, stream diversion, unauthorized changes in a stream and unauthorized works on crown lands,” the DFO statement read.
“The purpose of the work was to increase available land to be used for agricultural purposes. None of this work had Fisheries Act or provincial authorizations.”
The investigation work in these cases was conducted by fishery officers from the federal Fisheries Department in Williams Lake and Prince George in conjunction with provincial natural resource officers and biologists.
While I would normally want to support a local business as much as possible, I think it is important that consumers know what they are supporting and the environmental damage that ensues.

Wow, look them up and see how they think they are above the law and destroy natural fish habitats so you can eat their meat? Half a million in fines for over 3 years of destruction is what the news says.
Boo on them!!

I discovered this local gem today and had a lovely customer service experience. The staff member (I should have got their name, but they have red hair) went above and beyond to help me find the right type of bone broth for my needs. They also gave me some great suggestions for storage and prep. Will definitely recommend Pasture to Plate to friends :)
