The YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island has a rich 135-year history in the community. With a focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, the Y nurtures the potential of children and teens, improves the community's health and well-being, and provides opportunities to give back and help. The gym offers a wide range of facilities, including a large space with a variety of machines and free weights, a second floor with cardio machines, additional machines, free weights, a pose/stretch room, a multipurpose indoor court, a green room, and squash and racquetball courts on the third floor. The pricing is great, with rates of $35 for those under 18 and $40 for those 18 and above. The staff is described as super friendly and engaging, and the regular gym-goers are also reported to be nice. The gym is generally kept clean, and the equipment, though in need of some upgrades, is still functional. The pool hours have improved, and the morning swimmers and lifeguards are friendly. While the spin class instruction is excellent, the bikes themselves are old and not as smooth as they could be. Nonetheless, the gym is highly regarded, with great people, equipment, and facilities, offering excellent value for the monthly rates.
