About Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre

The Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre is a fascinating First Nations museum, art gallery, gift shop, and café that offers an immersive experience into the cultures of the Squamish and Lil'wat Nations. Visitors can enjoy guided tours with cultural ambassadors who share stories, traditional drum songs, and short films that highlight the history and traditions of these Nations. The museum showcases distinctive carved house posts, canoes, spindle whorls, weaving, regalia, artwork, and artifacts throughout its two floors. The building itself is designed to evoke a Squamish Longhouse and Lil’wat Istken, with a traditional Longhouse and Pithouse viewable via the Mezzanine and an interpretive forest walk called the Salish Stroll. Outside, guests can explore and feel the history of the area. The gallery and gift shop offer handcrafted art and keepsakes, while the Thunderbird Café serves First Nations-inspired cuisine at reasonable prices, with popular dishes like stew, quinoa salad, and the best baddok. Visitors often find the experience educational, engaging, and enriching, making it a must-visit destination in Whistler.
