Overall this is a nice place for the most part. I give 5 starts because it’s very neat and clean always, I have gone several times and was able to get really good, fresh fruits, vegetables and meat donated from the same grocery stores in the area. However some of the volunteers fall way short on respect for the clients. Particularly clients of color. There is one man I won’t use his full name I will only say that it begins with C. He DOES NOT like black people and one day the words are gonna slide out in public. I’ve heard him on many occasions talk about people in a “friendly joking manner”He’s usually at the protein station. He once said “ Look at you at the free food bank” to a girl in line. I could tell she didn’t like it. He then asked me what the “thing” on my head was called? Speaking of my head wrap. What that has to do w/ a food bank? I’m not sure. I have also witnessed another female worker say “give her the frozen bag of ice” when she gets home she’ll realize it’s not meat. “That’s what C does to them all the time”! She was speaking about an Asian elderly lady that didn’t speak English. Today Mr.C gave the lady in front of me wonderful service, she even asked him for a 2nd item when you’re only allowed 1. He didn’t give her any trouble at all and right in front of me he gave her both items. When it was my turn his sarcasm turned back on. “Ooooh you want bacon”? How are you gonna feed your family dinner with bacon? He asked.. please tell me how you volunteer at a food bank and don’t like All people in 2024? Do better staff

I come here but it's just low quality food a ton of old stuff that's just beyond expiration date... I'm trying to contact the city or health department on these people due to the fact the food is old and outdated always and that can make you super sick I got cake from there the date is April for expiration we way in September....

I don't know of any complaints here about the Alameda Free Food Pantry, a food pantry located on 34th Street between Hyde Street in Oakland. I've seen unequal treatment today! At 10:30 a.m. on April 13, the food dispenser was handing out numbers for the free food, but there was a Spanish lady who was supposed to be behind me in the back of four people, but she told the clerk that she was standing in front of me, and the problem was that I didn't move, there were a lot of people there, and I didn't push her, I'm just asking: Where is she? The staff, without explaining to us, without listening, just disqualified me, her language was also Spanish, we couldn't communicate, the staff only believed the lies told by her ethnic group, our Asian people, it was unfair to me! I'd like to make a complaint. When something like this happens, it is always around us. How fair is it to treat us like this just because we are Asian and can't speak English?? I don't know whether others jumped the queue or not, but there was no one standing around me to jump the queue, she is discriminating against us!

Everyone working there is helpful and attentive. In addition to giving food to those who need it you can earn community service hours and volunteer.

I'm not working at the moment and needed a boost in my fresh produce! Omg yass! The process the treatment and service the goods all 5 star. Just beware of the greedy people you stand next to! It was so disheartening I almost left. But, if you're there early put a marker in line so you don't get skipped like me lol... I patiently waited and am grateful for your efforts and hard work!! Thank you!
