A completely terrific bank. Very competent and friendly service. I have been using them for decades under the name of Bank of Alameda. Some of the things that I like is that they are completely above board. When the B of Marin bought out B of Alameda, staff was not reduced and the same clerks continue to serve. In short -- a highly unusual set of circumstances! I read a complaint that may be combined with grief and lack of experience... First, when a beneficiary dies, the original trust must be closed, with the new beneficiaries and controllers (trustees) listed in a new trust. I'm afraid that having money tied up and not readily available for funerals, etc. is typical. That is why a well advised person makes a special bank account -- with the executors name as well as the person who starts the new trust -- previously arranged. There are so many entanglements (people) who may want the money yet are not entitled to it ready to jump in and steal. Not the writer of the complaint, of course. The bank is fulfilling fiduciary duties. Please do not blame the Bank for this. It is for YOUR protection!

Bank associates treat customers on a First name basis and are extraordinarily attentive... Any account activity that might appear unusual results in a securing personal phone call to insure the security of your account.

Super friendly. But they pay the lowest interest in the country and charge for checks do not make mortgage loans and often charge for wires. Sit down service and plenty of parking in a suburban style stopping center.

I made the fatal mistake of depositing $500 in cash to this non-cooperative Atm and my funds jammed the machine. My money was not returned and I was was told that they couldn't return my funds until my financial institution filed an atm dispute. I filedTwice Bank of Marin claimed to my bank that there was no transaction history. I was told by the branch manager that my money did jam the machine but they could "hand me my money" my bank had to credit me. They refuse to return my money. I'm filing a civil suit and subpoena for my funds to be returned and the video surveillance to be released. Horrible difficult bank!!! Don't bank with them!!!

Archaic practices (e.g., no way to wire without coming in person). Good luck getting anyone to answer the phone or call back.

If it could be NEGATIVE stars I would give NEGATIVE 100 at least, by far the most DIFFICULT banking institution I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with in my 35 years of banking. Let's put aside their lackluster (at best) customer service for everyday trans actions aside for the moment. My father passed and had (unfortunately) banked with them. He had a trust and my brother and I were the only beneficiaries as well as co-trustees, we had expenses relating to his care and funeral services that are still outstanding due to the fact that Bank of Marin is insisting the we name successor trustees to his trust in order to close the account and open a new one in our name. This EXPLICITLY goes against the wishes of our father and his trust, as it would add person(s) to the now irrevocable trust not approved by the Trustor to handle his estate. Their reasoning is "What if something happens to both of them?" Which makes no sense, as soon as the account is opened for us we are going to transfer to our own bank accounts separately, the money would not be in a trust for more than five minutes. This has cost us much time and attorney fees that are completely unnecessary. As of now it is still unresolved. Our advice to ANYONE thinking about or already banking with this institution is do not do business at ANY cost with them.

GOOD LUCK GETTING THEIR F****** ATM TO SCAN YOUR CHECKS. (All of which means if you wish to deposit checks, you have to suffer the inconvenience of walking into the branch during weekday business hours. Kind of defeats the purpose of the check scanner, doesn't it?)

This is a great bank. All the staff are friendly and knowledgeable people. Hey, it's a bank, just like any other bank. There all the same with subtle differences.
