Under new ownership and management. Now 'Alameda Fitness & Spa'. It will be interesting to see if there are any improvements. The gym was so mismanaged by the previous owners who just took money out of it and didn't put much money back into it. I think the original asking price was $13,500,000 but I could be wrong. Per, "The list price for the property is $10,500,000 and the business list price is $3,000,000. The business and the property are to be sold together at $13,500,000." ( How much was 2227 Mariner Square Loop, Alameda sold for? The last sale price for 2227 Mariner Square Loop, Alameda was $7,750,000. When was 2227 Mariner Square Loop, Alameda last sold? 2227 Mariner Square Loop, Alameda was last sold in 1/20/2022.

Mariner Square is a good gym in which to exercise. They have lots of equipment, a swimming pool, and classes with instructors to help with personal work out programs. I would rate MSAC higher, but they seem rather lax in their Covid protocols. People using the aerobic equipment (treadmills, stair climbers, elliptical machines, stationary bikes) are either not wearing masks at all or have them pulled down to their chins. As a result, I no longer shower there after my workouts because of health concerns.

Maybe they have upgraded everything since these reviews, but my experience has so far been great. It's not fancy, but it feels new and definitely clean. I use the pool. It's warm! The sauna is new and clean and very warm. The showers are small individual stalls with a curtain. They are easy to use, have hot water, and are clean. Sometimes, it's the small stuff. In the shower, there's a caddy that's affixed so when you put your shampoo in, it doesn't tilt to one side. The lockers feel brand new. There is a hot tub in the women's locker room, plus one in the pool area. I have only used the pool and locker room, but there are lots of individualized workout rooms so you can get social distance space. Did I mention clean?

Every time I call - there is someone new handling the gym membership and management. With the Covid-19 pandemic, I was charged unnecessary membership fees for months that the gym was not opened or had limited opening. I tried to cancel several times only to get the "run around" and continued monthly membership fees! New management has come on board that doesn't seem to understand or want to understand the dilemma with a long list of excuses that you can't even get a word in edge wise because the manager talks over you - as you try to explain. Terrible customer service. If the manager had been willing to negotiate or listen - I was considering continuing with my gym membership as it is nice to have a local gym here in town. Good luck trying to keep this place open with competent staff.

Not a bad place, but just not great. It's weird to have all the brown carpet in a gym. It just feels old and dirty. The areas I worked out in the most have terrible florescent lighting and no natural light. The classes are geared towards little old ladies. The gym just feels tired and uninspiring. After being a member for years and barely going I finally quit and went to a gym that was a better fit with more energetic classes and overall energy.

Well, the Spin class I was taking on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays got canceled, along with some other classes, so all I'm going to be doing for the time being is weight training. Got a Xmas present of a few personal training sessions, so props to Joe for being a good trainer. The weight equipment is nice, the locker room is nice now that it was upgraded since my last review, and the people are nice. It's still clean. However, if you want a challenging class before or after work hours, your options are now very limited. I'll be looking around for a facility that better suits my fitness level and goals.

It is a great gym if you do not need fancy stuff. The facilities are not super new, but generally everything works. Audience is middle class, a gym for everybody. The trainers that I know are great. First off Kelvin, a very enthusiastic and engaged trainer, a bit of a character that makes attending his classes fun. Sharon is great as well, very engaged, and focuses on individual needs. Overall, the club folks and trainers are trying their best with what they got. If you are looking for a fancy high brow club experience, MSAC is not the right one for you. For everybody else, and if you are looking for good value for money, go for it!

I have to say I like everything about Mariner Square Athletic Club. First, the people. Everyone from the staff to the members are friendly and helpful. Dominic (who I signed up with), Alomar (at the front desk, along with other folks), Jeff (the General Manager) and Isreal (my trainer) are all really great people. The machines are newer and kept in good working order. The facilities are clean and the place has a great vibe. I don't know where else in Alameda one can get get such a good mix of different facility features... hot sauna, steam sauna, hot tub, showers and locker rooms (one set of each for men and of set of each for women), a large pool, basketball, racquetball, handball, ping pong, golf instruction, free weights, machines of all kinds, classes, massage, coaching and more. By "great vibe" I specifically mean that it's not a big show-off thing. As a middle-aged man trying to get in shape, I've never felt uncomfortable around the folks there... just another person trying to be a little healthier. It's generally not crowded, which is nice. Plenty of free parking. I'd strongly suggest anyone looking for a good gymn in or near Alameda to go check it out.

This gym is a little outdated, but I really love how chill it is here! Most of the clients here are older and it usually doesn't get busy unless people are here for racquetball. I usually come here after work at 6pm and never have to wait for any machines; the weight room could use some updating, but otherwise never really that crowded and everyone re-racks their weights, as they should. I don't use the pool, but love that I have the option to. Now I hear a lot of people saying it's pricey, but I have another gym pass that allows me to go here, so I don't have any complaints there. There's a basketball court (half court, I believe?), cross fit gym, racquetball, and they offer various classes as well. The staff at the front desk are very friendly and welcoming!

Signed up for the gym membership for the summer while home from college. It was a much better deal as a student but I would have to say the overall things that they have to offer isn't targeted towards the 18-mid 20 age range. Overall, the employees are all super nice and friendly, and they have a pool, crossfit area, pingpong, basketball court, and plenty of machines. I've gone almost everyday since May, and most nights all the rooms on the first floor would be occupied with groups of people playing racketball and the one larger open gym room would be occupied for martial arts or dance groups, which is rather disappointing because thst leaves no open rooms for those who want to work out on their own. I typically use the machines upstairs to run and then seek out a place to do HIIT and jumprope. Unfortunately, it usually means working out in the carpeted hallway upstairs where several other people are awkwardly spread out because, as I've said before, there is no real gym space or workout area that people can work out on their own. I was pretty disappointed and I honestly feel like I have more space working outside my garage. I gave a generous 3 stars mainly because of the nice people and the fact that they do have a variety of things to do for those who might be interested.
