Cute needlework store with lots of fabric options and tons of gorgeous thread. They even have a rewards program that is quite generous!

We ordered some speciality items for some tradeshow swag. We got a few hundred of these wooden keychains cutout as our logo. Super creative, good quality and finish, and quick turnaround. Highly recommend Needle In A Haystack

Update: if the helpful demeanor expressed in the reply below was shown while we were in the store we would have happily continued shopping. However, we were instead met with condescension and smugness. My wife was excited to get back into the hobby after a few years away and wanted to shop locally. Unfortunately, based on our experience and treatment here, we took our business online. We came here for my wife to find some cross stiching stuff. This lady was extremely rude and dismissive. Store was very shady. Would never return. Thank God for online retailers because u can't find good help locally any more.

This store is a good resource for silk and cotton flosses for embroidery and counted thread work, as well as for tapestry wool for needlepoint. They also have a good color selection of DMC perle cotton. However, if you are looking for cotton cordonnet, DMC Cebelia (mercerized, tightly-plied, workable cotton), plied linen thread, extra-fine tatting cotton, or Tire filament silk, make a visit to Lacis on Adeline Street in Berkeley. Lacis also carries DMC perle cotton (spelled correctly), a wide selection of embroidery flosses, has a large reference collection of lace and needlework, and knowledgable sales staff. Overall, Needle in a Haystack is no longer worth the drive to me.

This shop is packed with exquisite textiles. A variety of threads from cotton, silk, wool, and composite including fancy threads down to tons of DMC. Needlework fabrics, kits, samples, needles, buttons, frames, accessories....there were so many items! Plan on an extended visit when you visit this shop. Oh, and the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.

Good selection online, but they aren’t set up well for online sales. They won’t refund money if they are out of stock, website is very outdated, the cart is confusing, fulfilling orders is noticeably slower than competitors. They offer an explanation bc of brick and mortar store but in 2019 it’s hard to justify such odd service.
