Got my pet a vaccine on 07/16, was told that I will get the certificate by email within 12 hours. Confirmed again after paying, tech- Alex Zavier was super rude, acted as if he was doing a favor and reiterated that he couldn’t do anything and I will have to wait for 12 hours.\\n1 week and no email, I call vetco, they tell me that are they are different from Petco and they don’t have any facility there etc.etc.\\nThen I call vetco and they transfer me to vetco and same story, this time they tell me that they cannot access vaccine clinics records and that they are not affiliated with vetco.\\nBasically, 6 calls later I had to visit this clinic on Sunday, spend 2 hours to prove that I paid and got my pet a vaccine here just to hear that they never entered that visit in their system.\\nDon’t know what’s going to happen next, I cannot vaccinate my dog twice because that’s lethal, cannot board her or take her to meetups because there is no record of that vaccine. Thanks you petco/vetco.

Customer service is horrible , MAKAYLA must have woken up on the wrong side of bed because she sure took out of salty mood on us when we were assisted by her. She continued to express how she was supposed to be clocking off her shift and was extremely rude to me and my wife. I will never be coming back here , no way buddy . BEWARE OF MAKAYLA

TERRIBLE customer service, Makayla Summerfield is who I was approached by and from the moment she spoke to me to the end of the conversation I didn't feel this was a safe environment for my dog. She blatantly yelled to her coworkers " I ain't doing this Yorkie haircut I'm off in a hour" she was unnecessarily rude and I will be sure to not allow anyone of my friends or family to go here

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! Save the time do not bother with bringing your animals here. Not sure where they get their employees from but seems like anyone can get a job there. This lady named Makayla Summerfield has the ugliest attitude inside and out! Go get a job elsewhere if cannot deal with customer service! SIMPLE.

Warning! Warning! Horrible customer service! We came in to get our pet groomed and was aggressively spoken to by Mikayla Summerfield. She very obviously did NOT want to do her job as she exclaimed that she was "off in an hour" ( as if it would take that long to do a little trim). She then continued to yell to her manager saying if "she wanted to do this yorkie", Our pet does have a name, this place has made not only me but my pet VERY uncomfortable and we will NEVER be coming back to this store for ANYTHING. period.

Brought my Golden Doodle there on December 1st for my appointment that I made 2 months before. I was told they didn't have enough time to do my dog and they booked it again in two weeks. On December 12th I brought my Golden Doodle in and they added several new charges that added up to $40 over the original quote. He needed grooming very badly so I agreed. They did a horrible job first cutting the coat down to his skin and cutting the top of his head more on one side than the other. Also messed up his face. It was a disaster. So they did not keep my original appointment, they charged more money than they quoted and then they did a horrible job. Never going back, will not take one step into that store again. This is at the Alameda store in South Shore. On top of everything else, the head groomer was very rude in raising the prices. Beware, go somewhere else if you love your pet.

Vanessa has a serious attitude problem. She is aggressive, out of pocket, and disrespectful. Her bad attitude trickles down to the staff and is reflected in their behavior and attitude. She is poison to the grooming salon. Aside from that, it seems that the grooming salon is overworked and understaffed, creating a poor morale amongst the staff members, which is then taken out on the customers and their pets. I have experienced mistreatment from the staff and have witnessed the mistreatment of other customers as well. It seems that the staff knows that staff is hard to come by at this time and therefore take no care nor pride in providing anything remotely resembling good (forget excellent) customer service. If the staff can't manage to treat the people well, I wonder what their temperament is like with our pets. Give your business to a privately owned salon. Upper management, get rid of Vanessa. She's toxic.

I've been in this store a few times. Each time, without fail, employees I approach with questions are abrupt or rude. Today, the woman working at the register was unfriendly and chastised another customer for lining up incorrectly when there was no one behind her. It is not difficult to be even slightly friendly to customers. I won't go back.

I came in today with my 2 boys in hopes of buying $5 worth of feeder fishes as a fun pet project for my boys. AJ came along and helped educate and me on how to best care for the fish. Although I am disappointed I was convinced out of 25 feeder fishes for $5...lol... I am even more happier in knowing that AJ is a huge advocate for the pets at the store. He helped educate me about how to best care for feeder fishes and redirected me to buying 2 beta fishes instead. I love how he put the best interest of the pet and customers first over profits, which in turn... instead of me buying $5 worth of fishes... I ended up buying 2 beta fishes for $17. I love seeing AJ's passion for the greater good and I hope that upper management/corporate headquarters will give AJ the awesome recognition he deserves. I hope that he will be able to train all his staff to think the same way for the betterment of the greater good over profits. This gives me piece of mind knowing that the pets at Petco in Alameda are well taken care of and happy. I love this place even more so because of AJ's kindness, compassion and caring for both the pets, customers and all living creatures. If only all human kind were like this!! Thank you AJ for making a big impact in your own way for the greater good GIVE AJ A RAISE!!

i have 4 guinea pigs and everytime i come here the older woman who is usually at the register is so rude! i bought one guinea pig a few months ago because my pair ended up not working out so i decided to find each another pig to bond with. i couldn't find one on guineapigfinder or at FAAS that was alone and younger so that the bonding process would be more likely to work out with my older male so i came to petco. at the register the lady made some snarky comment about how she "hopes i did research"... i thanked her for the advice but said i was experienced and already owned guinea pigs so theres no need to worry. she continued to be so rude and condescending anyway. i wouldn't be so annoyed if she was just trying to offer friendly advice to someone who she thought might be a first time pet owner but she legit talks down at you like u are just stupid and clueless. i understand sometimes people come in and recklessly buy pets for themselves or for children without researching but maybe be a little nicer about it, and dont automatically assume everybody doesnt know how to properly care for their pets.

Easily the best pet store in the east bay. The entire staff is so knowledgeable and helpful. I have a dog with multiple food allergies and they've always been able to point me in the right direction. Not to mention, every time I bring my dog in, he is showered in love by the employees! We both love it here and will make it a priority to shop here even if it mean driving an extra 10 minutes.

Be aware: If you have a "senior" dog with a pre-exisiting condition you won't be able to get your dog groomed here. BUT they will let you book and appointment and drive all the way out there before they tell you. This is the second bad experience I've had with PetCo grooming in less than a week. The first was on Friday 5/21 when I received a phone call from the PetCo in SF (Potero) that the groomer called in sick so they had to cancel my appointment. I get that stuff happens, but I got this call 1.5 hours before my appointment time and I booked that appointment weeks ago. There's really no one that can cover? But okay, no biggie - I managed to snag an appointment at this PetCo which is closer to my house anyway. So I arrive for my 2:30 appointment, but I need to wait 5 minutes before I'm seen because both groomers are with dogs. Okay. When I'm being checked in the groomer asks if my dog has any medical conditions. I say he has a collapsed trachea, so they should use a harness when grooming rather than a choke collar. Apparently, this has become an issue since the last time I got the same dog groomed at the same exact location. So she calls in her manager who quickly says, "It's not worth the risk" and denies me a grooming service. This is despite the fact that my dog has been groomed here before and has been groomed at multiple other locations with no issues. I asked if there was any policy on their website that explained this decision and she said no. I begged her to please take the dog because he has long black fur and desperately needs a trim before summer and PetCo already canceled on me last minute last week. Still says no and then proceeds to insinuate that I shouldn't be pushing for it because he's a "poor old guy" and "something could happen". My dog is an 8 year old pomeranian...he is far from being a "poor old guy" and again, he has been groomed multiple times before without issue. I even went so far to call PetCo's corporate line to ask if there was a policy about this that I could view. I was connected with someone who said that they'd look into it and to please hold - but after 17 minutes of holding, I got disconnected. Still wasn't able to find anything about it on the website, so it's more or less at the discretion of the grooming staff and store manager. So basically, you can make an appointment here, drive all the way there, get your dog in the door, and be turned away at the last minute. It's obvious to me that PetCo doesn't care about your time...or your dog even really? They care about protecting their own butts and not getting sued. Which I can understand on some level, but perhaps going to a local groomer will get you more of a human conversation rather than a corporate one. Edited to Add: They suggested a call VCA Animal Hospital and book a grooming appt there because of my dog's "condition". I said most vets aren't taking new pets at the moment because of covid. I just called them anyway to make sure - guess what?! They're not taking new pets right now because of covid...only current patients can book grooming appointments. Go figure.
