You will always feel welcome when you come to Cosmic Training Center. There is a zero tolerance policy for toxic behavior, and disobedience is punished immediately. Coach Joseph is also understanding about any limitations you may have, be they mental, physical, or even financial. Don't be afraid to come forward about any grievances you may have at this gym. But there does seem to be a problem with children coming forward about their griefs. But I doubt that many children come forward about any problems they have with the staff. Let me tell you why. The MMA/Capoiera coach Daniel is very loud, and he is somewhat intrusive with his students. He also punches his older students in the stomach hard enough to cause them stomach pain, which apparently is part of the training process to toughen up their stomach. I discussed this with Coach Joseph, and he is vigilant but said that the students he is hitting signed up for it and can handle it. It still is a concern to me, though. And the people who help teach the kids' class seem to have a lot of fun with them and do a lot of teamwork and grit building exercises with the children. But they are guilty of mocking the kids sometimes when they step out of line, which can make them feel unvalued. Let me be clear that these teachers at Cosmic have their hearts in the right place, no doubt about it. But Coach Joseph is too hard on the kids sometimes. He once had them do 200 squats as punishment, 200! They're just kids, some of whom aren't even in elementary school yet. That is a pretty excessive punishment and an unrealistic goal. I don't know what they did to warrant that reprimand, but it sounded like they were all sobbing during the exercise. Even if they learned their lesson, it still seems like it was really pushing the limit. I don't think any of the coaches are too well educated on child development. Now I'm not saying that should be required for their jobs. But it should be common knowledge. Also, adult students and teachers insult some of the kids for goofing off. Toxic behavior that those poor kids will have to carry with them for the rest of their lives. I think they owe them an apology. And I'm not advocating for coddling them either, far from it. I'd just wish they were more patient and understanding with their younger students. And yes, there are plenty of parents there who have plenty of experience with kids who seem to trust what they are doing. But it's concerning that they still choose the easy route with discipline. It kind of feels like they are a joke to them sometimes. To be fair, they do understand that we like to joke around with each other, and that's only natural. But my point still stands, and I am worried about what they are teaching them. This can greatly hinder a kid's development if they feel like they are screw ups or a joke, and I'm not sure if they are old enough to understand the nuance of ironic humor. He also does a thing that a lot of coaches do, where if someone does something stupid, the whole class gets punished. Why are you trying to turn them against each other? It makes zero sense and is very demotivating to the students who try hard. He has said that he doesn't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable, especially a child. I can't believe that is true if his actions don't reflect it. He also has no qualms about humiliating underage students if he has gripes with them. Which doesn't seem very respectful or professional. For example, Coach Joseph once said that an elementary school student better do an exercise the right way in a somewhat threatening tone. He seems to have it out for this kid and his brother. Those kids (who will remain nameless) aren't that bad of students. Sure, they do regular kid things like goofing off a bit and teasing each other. But they don't deserve ridicule and humiliation. Seems like he is taking a risk with them, which is unproductive. He should find another way if he doesn't want his kids to misbehave out of frustration

Instruction is comprehensive and well-structured, but I think Cosmic sets itself apart through its supportive atmosphere. Coach Joseph is very patient and understanding of each student's needs, and I have nothing but praise for how he runs his gym.

My wife and I were looking for somewhere to drop in and train while we were in the area, and we're really glad we choose Cosmic. We were made very welcome from the get go, the teaching was exceptional, and it was followed by good, hard (but friendly) rolls. Joseph made sure we had a great time, and went out of his way to help us drilling (even though he had students competing at the weekend). He was kind enough to roll with us, and destroyed us with gentle precision. I had a chat and a laugh with everyone I rolled with, and they all had a great attitude, happy to discuss techniques and what worked and what didn't.We've dropped in to many schools while travelling over the years and Cosmic is amongst the best experiences we've had. Highly recommended to anyone in the area looking for a community and a hard workout. One more thing: their sprung mat is exceptional and I'd love to do some serious stand up on it sometime. Just the right combination of firmness and bounce, and much better than most of the gyms we're used to in the UK (even most Judo dojos!). Their facilities are excellent and whoever spent time putting it together did a great job.

This academy has really awesome culture of inclusion, teamwork and safety! I have a great time training here especially after a long day of work and school; it’s relaxing to empty to empty my mind and just focus on movements. Professor Joseph is amazing and he really make you feel like you are part of a family. Come train here and be part of the family too!!

This is the first jiujitsu gym I have joined so I can't make comparison to other gyms, but I can't imagine other gyms being any better. Cosmic Training Center is not only welcoming, the culture that the professor has built and the community that occupies this gym is as ideal as it gets. I hope to stick around for a very long time.

Love the classes. It's never boring. I can feel my muscles developing and my fat burning away while the frustrations of the work day melt away.

I started training in late October 2022. The academy has been very welcoming and has made me feel like I belong there. Professor Joseph and Professor Alex have increased my fascination with BJJ. I am enjoying my time here so far and I hope to learn more things in the future.

I heard how fun BJJ is from a number of friends and finally decided to give it a shot not really knowing anything about it. I've been at Cosmic training center for about 5 weeks now and it has been great. Professor Joseph and the other coaches makes the environment super approachable and mellow even for a complete newbie. There is a big mix of belts and the classes are very informative and techniques are explained super well. Everyone I have met and rolled with so far has been very chill, welcoming and friendly. I also love the class schedule for those of us who don't work a strict 9-5 they offer earlier and later classes multiple times a week.

My daughter (6 years old) has attended for about a month. My husband has been attending for a few years. Here's what a love:-Coaches, especially Coach Yura, are very patient and kind, but also keep the kids safe.-We've been to trials at other training centers for kids BJJ-- this is the only one I've seen where there is rigor, and obvious connections to adult BJJ, even for young kids. They actually learn the techniques with empasis on domain specific vocabulary, and proper technique. There are many opportunities for practice with almost individualized attention from the coaches. And about three weeks in, my daughter was already paired up with other students, and rolling, so she could apply her learning against real opponents. -The card system is super flexible.-The parties are a blast.-The other kids are very kind.-Plenty of parking at the nearby movie theater patking lot.-Comfy sofas with usb charging for parents.
