This hotel is a real trip, and super fun to explore the whole building: banquet rooms, saloons, lobbies, restaurants…all built well more than 100 years ago. We loved

Very rude place to eat! Highly NOT recommended. The "waitress" walked past us with food and then walked away. We sat for 20 minutes and were the only 2 people in there. "Waitress" claimed she had other customers to wait on (again, we were the only 2 people in there) and refused to apologize. Never going there again!!

This is an historic building with rooms to scale for the time period. Rooms are themed…very quaint. You may find that the bathrooms reflect the age of the building but they are clean (just a little “tired”). Hospitality is TOP NOTCH!! We enjoyed coffee (a la Starbucks) in the morning. Tried the PIZZA and WOW!!! Fantastic! Generous toppings and the different combinations were delicious! We ordered two and had them made half and half so that the 9 of us eating could try them. We had leftovers and three of those dining were teenagers! Cannot state how impressive the pizza is…. Even if you are just passing through this small rural town you will find a great dining experience and super friendly and efficient service.

This is an OLD hotel in Alturas. It reeks of history. Has some rooms that belong in a museum. No elevator. 3rd floor has bathroom down the hall. But clean comfortable beds. Reasonable. Friendly personnel. Went there to see an annular eclipse and was not disappointed.Food & drinks: Decent cafe downstairs.

Stayed at the Niles Hotel for a night to catch the eclipse, and I have to say, it’s an experience worth sharing. We stayed in the kitchenette room, which comes with its own guestbook filled with tales of eerie feelings and ghostly encounters. However, my experience was nothing but positive vibes. The hotel is a charming mix of history and modern comforts. The staff is genuinely warm; kudos to the bartenders, waitresses, and the multi-talented front desk lady who also bakes the pastries. Speaking of which, don’t miss the downstairs amenities—the bar, restaurant, bakery, and coffee shop each offer a taste of Alturas’ community spirit.Highly recommend for those who appreciate character, history, and a dash of the supernatural (if you’re into that sort of thing). Can’t wait to come back!

DO NOT STAY HERE. They have a saloon downstairs that is super noisy so you will not have any quiet time in your room until after the bar closes. They appear to care more about the bar patrons than their hotel guests. I will never come back to this hotel. I can only put one star to post but would have put zero if possible.

For a drink and dinner, this is pretty good. More rib steak and onion rings and sweet potato fries than we could imagine. Plenty of leftovers ?

double beds where to small for 2 kids to sleep in. One kid fell out the bed in the night and hurt himself. the bar under the rooms had loud music until after midnight, so kids could not sleep well. Should be mentioned in the description that this loud music is being heard to the rooms. No ice in the ice chest, even after asking for it.

Stunning hotel with simple, theme-based rooms. The staff are accommodating and friendly. We’ll be back!

Always fun to stay in a 100 year old hotel...just don't expect 21st century amenities (such as a TV in the room). Bar is fun and food is good, but be aware your stay begins with lugging your bags up a long flight of stairs to the second floor.
