I often go to our local plumas bank atm as we do as we do not have a bank in our town . Alturas California is the nearest branch . Having had a checking account there for over 20 years and generally not having any problems to my surprise when I went in to cash a check from GEICO insurance companies for $3500 after having waited a week to receive the check to do some holiday shopping I was told by the acting branch manager that they would have to put a five day hold on the check . I was pretty surprised as I had never had anything like this happen before .they had never put a hold on a on a check being issued by issued by an. insurance company. After thinking about it for a minute I decided to not do not deposit the check and call my wife and ask her and tell her what had just happened. She suggested that I take the check and deposit it through the ATM as I normally did with a $500 maximum withdrawal on the check it was not my best option but I decided to do that. I deposited the check through the ATM which it cleared and got my $500 for the day and came home at which time I received a call from the branch and they proceeded to tell me that I was now going to be charged a 30 dollar overdraft nd there was going to be a 10 day hold on the check as opposed to the 5 day hold that I was originally told that was going to take place . While on the phone and trying to understand exactly why they were doing this there was laughter in the background as if it was some kind of joke. I explained to them that I didn't feel that this was a laughing matter and that it was very unprofessional it was explained to me that the person that I spoke to you on the phone would be speaking with the manager on the following Monday when she arrived however being charged the $30 a day . I then proceeded to call Geico and ask them how often that a bank would hold payment on a check issued by them they assured me that in fact they had never heard of that before and that they had never had a problem or stopped payment on a check that has been issued to a client I am going into the branch tomorrow I am going to pay the $500 that I took from the ATM machine , get the check back and take it to a different bank to open a new account thank you Plumas bank.
