The current postmaster, Greg, deserves a 5-star for his great personality and customer service. I give him credit for being the only person managing this little post office the best he could. Kudos to you, Greg!

The Post Office is rarely as much of a necessity as it is in a micro-town like Amador City. The town is so small that people have to come here to get their mail, making it one of the more frequented stopovers in the sleepy downtown. This is also the only post office I've ever come across that you could describe as "cute." It's located in the first floor of a beautiful old historic building with quaint little antique shops flanking it on both sides. Inside, you'll find a worn desk, a bunch of P.O. boxes and, well, that's about it. During business hours there is usually a friendly mail person to greet you as well. However, because of the P.O. boxes the door is usually open even when they aren't around to accept counter mail. The only downside is also the upside. The small town charm also means the hours are less and somewhat erratic depending on the day. Make sure to physically go by there in person if you plan to use them so you can check the hours and determine the best time to get your mail on!

Amador city is a gold rush town and has that rustic feel to it. It's a cute little town. It's one of the smallest incorporated Cities in California. There are over 200 residence. This town was best known for quartz mining. The post office is located next to antique stores, bakery, restaurant, and hotel. There is also a museum near by. Most of the places are closed during the week so it's pretty quite here. But if you come Thursday-Sunday Amador city comes to life. This small town does not get mail delivered to their door steps unless it's a package from UPS. None of the locals have a mail box infront of their homes because there is no need for them. It's totally old school if you ask me. Locals have to drive or walk to the post office and drop off and pick up mail daily. We have many penpals around the world so we mail out a lot of letters on a daily basis since my 3 girls and I love connecting with others through the art of snail mail. Asher is pretty much always working unless he's on vacation. It's nice because he knows us by name. It's amazing how patient he is with my kiddos and I since each letter has to be weighed out to see how many stamps need to be added. We also participate in Nature Pal exchanges during the spring and summer months. That usually takes some time to weigh out. I like knowing that there is a large line behind me while I try to mail out packages and letters. Many of the other postoffice have lines. However, there is almost never a line. Sometimes one person behind us or infront of us but usually never any more. It's great that we are able to not feel rushed or that there are others in a hurry waiting for us to finish up quicker. It's a very relaxed atmosphere. It's also nice to know the locals by name. Also since we have a p.o. box and the combination is the old school one sometimes I have one of my older kids run in and pick up the mail for me. It's nice that Asher always gives my children the mail. Our p.o. box is high up so the kids cant reach it. The combination is also hqrd to remember. Sometimes I have to do it multiple times until I get it to open. Sure does help me a lot. My kids love picking up the mail on their own. It makes them feel like they are mature and are older now. I also appreciate that I can sit in the car and I don't have to go in and out of the post office on a daily basis. Once the older two get taller they will be able to reach the p.o. box and will do it on their own but for now I'll do it myself or we will ask Asher to get it for us. The post office is not always open. The doors are open I believe until 8 or 9 pm but Asher is only there from Mon-Friday 12:30 pm- 4:30 pm. Sat 9 am - 11:00 am and on Sunday the post office is closed. The post office is located at 10781 Water Street Amador city, CA 95601. There phone number is (209) 267-5476. I love that I'm able to call before I decide to make a trip to the post office and see if a package has arrived or not. If it has not then I can wait until the next day. There is also a few bigger locked boxes so that if you received a few larger boxes they are put in those and a key would be placed in your p.o. box. It's very convenient especially if your not able to make it to the post office until after closing hours. If ever we do go vacation we let Asher know ahead of time so that our mail is put in an other box since our box is too small to place a weeks worth of mail. If your ever passing by or you love old post offices then you don't want to miss this one. Inside there are pictures of how Amador city looked liked during the gold rush days. Across from the post office is a bridge and under the bridge there is a creek. You can see indivuals come with their gold mining pans and to this day try their luck hoping to find gold. This post office is clean and kept in great shape.
