Many years ago I had cancer and messed up my credit pretty bad during my dance with it. When it was clear I was going to make it through, and had healed up and started working again, the bank I had used before (that neglected to consult me financially during this time) was totally unforgiving. I wanted to make payments- and was glad to automatically deduct if I could open an account again. They gave me a hard NO put me on a list where I could no longer open a bank account, anywhere, until paid in full. NRFCU gave me a chance, treated me like a decent human being, and after getting to know me and paying attention to my financial habits via my bank account, they gave me a secured Visa, and I was able to start to rebuild my credit. Since then, with the lovely ladies at NRFCU I have reclaimed my finances, and am doing really well. I'm so grateful for the personal experience that you get when you walk in these doors.

I have beeen banking with them for about a year now and I have found all of the employees there to be very helpful and kind. They go above and beyond to help, especially Brenda, I really appreciate their level of exceptional customer service and I would recommend them to any and everyone looking for a great place to go for a very pleasant banking experience. They are by far the best I've encountered so far. Good customer service seems to be hard to come by these days so I really do appreciate the warm, caring atmosphere I've experienced at this bank. This bank has always been an obnoxious part of the community. When my husband got a loan through them, they made it almost impossible to add me to the account. The staff has always been standoffish, and it just doesn't have the same trust that credit unions like Coast Central do. Now, his old loan account somehow got attached to a military cash card account where he uses the military card, and pays it off. Somehow this went through the attached bank account. He thought this account was closed though, and had no idea it was a third party between these transactions. In approximately the last year, this account has been getting the transactions he makes through the military account (even though he pays it off through the military account), declining, and charging him a $27 return fee. Mind you, it didn't even take actual money out. It declined it and charged a fee. So what they're saying is, if you use this bank, and they have to decline something, you get charged for it, even if nothing was taken out. I've NEVER heard of a bank doing this. Overdraft fees yes, declining a card without taking money out, absolutely not. In this time, it's accumulated. He's heard nothing about it, until almost a year later, where they demand he pay hundreds of dollars for something he had no knowledge of. He's been across the country, in the military, and the only reason he had an account with these guys was for a previous loan that should have closed when he sold the car. This bank will not work with you, respect their mistake, and can't get him a straight answer on what was a return fee, versus what was actually owed. The staff has been gaslighting him that he should be thankful they called and told him about this, and normally they don't. This is d*** logic, they're a bank. If our main bank now had to reject a transaction, they have to call us or send us an email. The lady on the phone even said that the person who was previously in charge of these sorts of charges mismanaged them and essentially allowed this to go unchecked which ended up accruing a fee without letting him know. But this is a tiny credit union that makes its customers with the false sentiment that they're "local" and "nice" and "it's the big banks that are the bad guys." I honestly don't know what's wrong with them. If money had been taken out that he used, he would pay this off. However it's all return fees because their bank somehow got linked to this account, and stepped into the transactions he made with the account that are all cleared through the military. I honestly have never had a positive thing to say about this bank, and them trying to swindle money out of someone who didn't even know they had an account with them is just conniving and low. People say to trust credit unions, but don't trust this one. They're as shady as the big banks they claim to hate and just want to take your money. The only downside is, big banks have convenience of doing things online or weekend hours. These guys are the worst of both worlds. If they do make a mistake, they won't admit it, and make it impossible to deal with them.

Some of the nicest and helpful people that I have ever dealt with .Most all of my comunications have been by phone very polite and super helpful. 20yrs.almost and still happy with NRFCU.
