This would have been a higher rating even a year ago but lately the staff not the Vets seem to be getting a little rude! We have been seeing this office with our animals since 1996 when it was small in the village and I guess with growing pains I'm not sure gut maybe it's time to find some place else especially if I can't get an appointment for over a week and for the girls answering the phones talk to me like I'm the most inconvenience of the day and going in there anymore your rarely greeted with a hello or a smile! If people dislike their jobs and people that much why work there and work with people? Animals are most people's family so a little kindness shown would be appreciated.

I wish that there was a 500 star option! Here is the deal…I have a chihuahua named Lars who is incredibly scared and skittish. He only lets me touch him. We have been putting off his shots and nail trimming because it seemed impossible and the few times we have tried with other places it failed miserably. Lars was in desperate need so we tried this place. It wasn’t pretty at first…he totally freaked when we passed him over. He peed, pooped, broke a nail off, and made some demon sounds. But Courtney and Dr. Murphy (hope I got his name right) were absolutely incredible. Their calm nature and expertise worked miracles. He didn’t make it easy, no doubt, but they all persevered.Lars is sitting here by me now with his nails trimmed and his shots. A happy boy. I’m not saying it was easy but these guys are the real deal. They made it happen and we are so grateful. No other place has given him a chance.500 stars. I highly recommend. Good job guys, we love you!

We have been going to this vet for years. We have been lucky to have their knowledgeable and compassionate care for our cats and dogs. We love Dr Szamos who has helped us with our geriatric pets ❤️ until it was their time. We always receive excellent care and the staff are also smart and caring. We thank you!

Received a call from the office manager, Brook, after I left a negative review and offered to correct any issues I had. Very appreciative of the fact that they cared enough to call and discuss the issue.

Sadly, I had my dog (Buddy) , and my cat Honey -Boo - Boo - Kitty (and yes that was her real name.) Anyway, they both passed of old age and when they did, I was devastated. V.C.A. Animal Hospital were able to dispose of their remains in a professional way, and treated me with the utmost sincerity. In closing, even though my pets weren't regular patients, they accepted them and I and that was what I needed. They even gave me paw-prints of both of them. Lastly, when I do decide to get another pet , you can bet I'm taking them to VCA Arroyo Grande Animal Hospital!!!

RUN - DO NOT WALK, TO ANOTHER VETERNARIAN.We have been taking our pets to VCA for nearly 47 years and have spent thousands of dollars at this clinic. One of our animals was recently attacked and due to her injuries needed to be euthanized. I called VCA and was told they were way too busy to see her, even after I explained that she just needed to be euthanized, that it was an emergency and our pet was a long term patient there. The attitude of the person on the phone, was that they couldn't bother to accommodate us. Since our pet was obviously in a lot of pain, we called another vet in the area who immediately said to come in. Dr Boos, the founder of VCA clinic was such a compassionate person. I believe he would be appalled and angry that his clinic has turned into a get-them-in,get-them-out business instead of the caring office that he created. They seem to love dispensing prescriptions and doing xrays, but relieving pain obviously takes the back seat. He would never have turned away an animal in pain.I will NEVER use this vet clinic again.

Dr Sean Murphy is an amazing vet! I used VCA app to ask about dosage for a drug while traveling It was after hours and my pup was panting on a 6- hour drive. I didn’t know the person I was texting was not local but the person I was texting forwarded my concern to VCA Arroyo Grande where Dr Murphy called me with the information I need for my pup

Adam Murphy is an amazing vet! Bailey was diagnosed with Addison's disease and Dr. Murphy keeps on top of how to handle. He recently called me at home after attending a seminar (perhaps at a conference) telling about possible reduction in meds if animal is not having any lethargic symptoms. We discuss the possibility of reducing his meds and he's available by phone if I have questions. When something regarding Baileys health comes up he's available to see him. I'm so happy Dr. Murphy was available to save Bailey's life years ago when we didn't know what to do. Thank you Dr. Murphy for saving my baby.

Well you think they'd be a simple solution for finding your dog's constipated... blood work, x-ray medications $488 well I'm old-school back in the day the vet would stick his finger up their butt and find out if there's something blocking the exit then probably give him a little castor oil then call it good then argue with him to try and give him some moneybottom line is they're very thorough and I'm thankful for they're knowledgeable staff

I miss Dr. Boos and his never wavering dedication to the health and well being of my 13 year old Golden.I have been a client of the Arroyo Grande Animal Hospital for the past 13 years and while Dr. Boos was at the helm, it was a caring, dedicated practice who took was there for the clients both human and 4 legged. My Golden has been extremely healthy no issues so on December 12th 2022 when he experienced a medical emergency (voluminous bloody diarrhea and throwing up) I called at 8:00 am when VCA opened and asked to be seen by someone at the practice. I was told there were no appointments for that day. I described the urgency, my dogs age, my 13 year relationship with the practice and that my Golden has never had this before and they told me rather bluntly by Jennifer the receptionist to take him to the Central Coast Pet emergency. I said, "this is during the week and during the day and 8:00am, and no one at this vet office can see him today", she replied, no they can't we don't have any appointments. I don't have a vet for just well check ups, I have them for when my dog is sick but VCA Arroyo Grande Animal Hospital doesn't seem to care enough to take my Golden when he really needs to be seen, but they don't mind trying to run all sorts of unnecessary tests and procedures, during a well check on a very healthy senior dog. After the caring people at Central Coast Pet Emergency took my dog in with great compassion and I knew he would be ok, I called the VCA Arroyo Grande and asked to speak to the Manager, Deborah about my experience at her office. Today is the December 17th, 5 days later and I am still waiting for a call back. There are much better, caring practices out there. I was lucky to have the Pet Emergency they should not be picking up the slack of a Vet's office during the week, during the day at 8:00am. P.S. I have found a new very caring practice.

I gave this place two chances. And both times were just awful experiences. And for different reasons! My first visit they were 25 minutes late to getting me into my appointment. When I got into the room I was another 15 minutes collectively waiting for the doctor after the tech saw me. The second visit, today, I had terrible experience with the receptionist and doctor. The doctor was lovely! I explained a few things and she said she'd check the anal glads no charge and sent me out to wait and check out with the receptionist. When I greet the lady cheerfully she looks at me like I'm an idiot because I handed her the card and she replied with way too much attitude that she doesn't have the chart and can't check me out. So I proceed to wait another 15 minutes. My dog comes out smelling horrid! They decided to express her glads...and not even wash her butt or shampoo it! Who does that? Cut in the story to mention my interactions with the receptionist. I walked up with my dog ready to check out. Nope, still not good enough. I have my dog and am ready to pay but the same lady says you need to wait I don't have your chart. I said so I have my dog and we still need to wait? So I sit down until she gets the chart and calls me up. Then she says they decided to charge me for the anal glands being expressed. And I said you should probably quote people before you decide to do something so it's not a shock. And she rudely whispered under her breath that most people know it would cost money. I'm fully aware it costs money. But I was told they'd check and wouldn't do anything without my ok. My husband could have done the glands himself for free, not $30! Lack of professionalism and absolutely rude. Don't go here. I read the reviews and thought I'd have a different experience, I didn't. Go somewhere who's organized and has receptionist who have..what's the word...class Back into the dog story: I had even mentioned I was 6 months pregnant and the smell makes me gag so I'm aware of when it needs to be expressed. So I have to drive her home in my car (that has fabric seats, which absorbs smell). Not only was there the p*** in the picture but I washed her butt myself when I got home and the water was yellow running from her butt. Left over fluid I would think. I don't go writing posts mainly because I figure people can experience it and maybe it's better. But twice? And for different reasons? Enough is enough.

I just had a visit for my dog at the Arroyo Grande Vet Hospital on the corner of Grand and Elm. My dog is getting old and has some issues I wanted to discuss. I was assigned to Dr London. The moment we walked into the facility we were greeted with a smile and a warm hello. We were asked to wait and within 5 mins a vet assistant came to collect us and weigh our dog. We were then placed in the room and the vet assistant took the history of the dog, made some notes and immediately responded that she would print out information about our concerns and give us further information when we left. She was pleasant and very professional. Within a few minutes Dr London come into the room greets us with a smile and greets our dog. This was at the end of the day around 5 pm and Dr. London was exceedingly warm and professional. She listened to us, addressed our issues and educated us on the problems at hand. She was wonderfully gentle with our dog and did a very thorough exam. We had an excellent discussion and then went out to the waiting room, again greeted pleasantly by staff. The staff at the desk were very warm and concerning, had the information we were promised, accepted payment and then we left the facility. I am extremely impressed with all aspects of our visit, the kindness and professionalism shown was outstanding.

I so appreciate the kind, loving care we received when Hachi had to be seen yesterday. Dr. Mete was wonderful. She took the time to explain and demonstrate what needed to be done. She consulted with other doctors cause she was presented with a special case. Thank you so much for taking such great care of my furbaby. Hachi and I so appreciate you. I would highly recommend this vet office.

Kevin our vet was amazing! Super nice and easy to talk to. You can tell he knows his stuff. The front desk was friendly and happy to help. They rewarded Shadow(my puppy) with treats after the exam and I left with a happy puppy that had a great time at his first official vet exam! Couldn't recommend this animal hospital more. My mother and I used to come here with our cats and I'd say the experience was even better years later with my pup!

We recently had to say goodbye to our beloved pet of 15 years. Stacy, the vet was kind and very compassionate as she helped us through the process. She allowed us to take all of the time we needed to say goodbye and she was very gentle with our dog. We thank you Stacy!
