Now I want to start this review off by saying last year it would've been 4.5 stars but the previous owners are no longer there and I am so dissatisfied with the new owners. We have been using this kennel for two years and never had any issues. This last week we called to make a reservation and were advised the prev owner moved to Georgia but we were in bind so we decided to give them a try. We arrived and dropped off our dogs to a gentleman who did not give my husband any type of receipt or hand him sign anything, our mistake #1. We confirmed we would pick up on Saturday AM if we could not arrive by Friday. Saturday arrived we were there at 9am, no one arrived. We waited 2 hours but no one came or returned any of our calls. I called every 30 min trying to reach someone and not ons returned call. We ended up calling the Police since I was now worried our dogs were being neglected. The officer jumped the fence and said the dogs were in a cage and appeared fine but the back area was a disaster with file cabinets and junk everywhere. He could not do anything since it was a civil issue and we would have to wait until Monday. On Monday we arrived at 8:45am and someone did show up at 9:15. The guy who arrived wearing a lovely "I love Pot" hat attempted to charge us for the entire weekend. Mind you I was wiling to pay for the three days service but there is no way I was going to pay them for the weekend, especially since NO OND BOTHERED TO CHECK ON THE DOGS ALL DAY Saturday and who knows if they came Sunday. The guy shrugged his shoulder and said, Ok. Our dogs came out with their tail between their legs and heads bowed. They have NEVER acted like this in the past. We asked for a receipt and he had no clue how to spell or write legibly, didn't give an explains toon for why they neglected to call or check on the dogs either. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE, THE NEW OWNERS ARE AWFUL!!!!!'

I have two pugs and they are very picky with people therefore we never left them with anyone but family or friends. We have used this kennel a few times now and must say our dogs LOVE going there. They seem to really enjoy their stay because they always come home very happy. The only downside is they have the smell of a kennel for a few days but that is to be expected. Love this place, reasonable priced and a very nice owner. We will def use them for any kennel needs we may have and have recommended them to friends.

Hands down the BEST place I've ever brought my dog to stay. I live in San Diego, but was based in the Bay Area for work for over a year. Every time I traveled, my pup went to stay at DK. Paul is an absolute saint who made sure my pup was well taken care of. I can't thank them enough for the help they provided during the year that I was up there. I have yet to find the same experience now that I'm back home. Nothing compares to Diablo Kennels

I have never been compelled to write a Yelp review, but I am so disgusted with this disgusting facility. We went away for a 3 day weekend and trusted our beloved dog to Diablo Kennels. When I got home with her I noticed a flea on her back, when I looked closer at her she was COVERED in fleas. We have a small chihuahua who has NEVER had a flea since we've had her. I immediately went to the store and purchased $75 worth of flea treatment to combat this before I let her loose in my house. I then called and spoke with Paul(the owner) and informed him of the situation. He denied that there was a flea problem at his facility. He offered for me to bring her back to him and he would give her a bath. I told him I would deal with the fleas. I asked for a refund of the $18/day I paid and he refused. I asked him if he would reimburse me for the expense of the flea treatments, he refused. I advised him that I would never step another foot in his fleabag hotel and he had the nerve to tell me that if I ever wanted to trust my dog to them again, he would "give me a credit on my next boarding". UMmm no thanks! Please save yourself & your pet the grief and never entrust these people with your pets.

I went on Yelp to see if I could find a reliable place where I can board my dog, I was thinking either of a pet sitting place or a kennel. It was relatively last minute and the choices available were very limited. I looked into Diablo Kennels because of the raving reviews that many previous customers (I hope) had left. I want to give the most honest feedback to deter my review from being biased or unfair. Situation: I was in need of a kennel within 4 hours and found Diablo Kennels to be the only location that was able to accomodate my dog and my needs. Background information about my dog: she is a husky and is very high energy, she is an escape artist, she has trouble eating, among many other things. In conclusion, my dog is very energetic and needs to be walked about twice a day for about 45 minutes ea. I was somewhat disappointed when I reached Diablo Kennels from the outside because of the poor maintenance and upkeep of the storefront. When I entered the smell was horrible, knowing that it was a boarding kennel for animals I did expect somewhat of a smell, but definitely not as pungent as it was. The kennel, the one in which my dog would be placed, was relatively clean and the maintenance guy was pretty comforting in telling me that everything was going to be ok, but the ambiance was telling me otherwise. In short, I chose this place because it was the only option that I had, and they took me at the last minute. However, if I had more time to canvas other places, I would have liked to either have booked my dog at another location. Knowing that I was going to be gone only for two nights, I allowed myself to leave my dog there. I would not recommend this place to any of my friends or relatives. When my dog returned home she was frantic and in dismay, she had previously stayed at other kennels before but never acted like she did when she returned from Diablo Kennels. I begin to wonder as well if all the raving reviews are honest reviews. Many people highlight how nice the place is, but if you check it out you would think otherwise. I believe they should update their website and update some revised photos of the actual kennels and where the dogs interact. I feel bad for my dog.

Update: Now, I am going on 6yrs of being a regular customer (when I say regular I mean at least 1/per yr for approximately 3-4days.). I have 5 dogs, yes I know I said it 5! I love everyone of them and they all love DK! Every time we get closer to the establishment they start to get really excited and once there they can't wait to get in. I do not know what Paul and Jennifer do to my guys but they love going here. Yes, it may not be a very clean well kept place, but I could careless about how clean the establishment is, all I care about is how my babies are well kept and treated. I have Pit-bull which no one would take just because he is a Pit-bull and everywhere we try to take him they instantly say no. With the tension in the air would you be nice to ppl? If everywhere you go ppl wanna walk away from you or instantly look at you like you are the devil? Well guess what I know a lot of humans how become aggressive when ppl treat them that way, so why can't a dog? Well, he is not the devil, he is sweet, loving and protective once you get to know him. At his 1st visit at DK he was aggressive, he is not used to being away from home and around others he does not know w/o his parents. They took him and Jennifer even worked with him and broke him in. She was nice enough to say give him time and let us work with him and he will come around. Jeff (the caretaker) was scared and I do not blame him. Poor man has been bitten by too many times by ppl's "friendly" dogs and I know how he feels from experience, but we love dogs so, it is hard to stop caring for them. Now when my Pit-bull goes to DK he is excited and friendly and accepted with open arms every time. Word of advice get the grooming service, they do not charge you for that days boarding if you get the grooming service the day of pickup. This way your dog doesn't smell foul and you can relax. If you are looking for a fancy location that says they do this and that and charge an arm and a leg than go there. I have taken my dogs to one of those fancy places and they came home sick, skinny and very unhappy for over a week, but if you are looking for great ppl who loves dogs and priced right go to KD!

My dog is happy to go in and seems in good spirits when I pick him up. He does stink somethin awful when he gets home. So I will either plan to bathe him when we get home or pay the extra $25 for them to bathe him. Overall we have had a positive expereince-my dog is happy so that makes me happy

This place really is great. They always remember us and our dog is alway happy going there and when he comes home. They have grooming services as well so it is super convenient! The owners are very nice and they have been working with animals for a long time, and it is clear our dog is comfortable and happy here. Thank you Diablo Kennels!

Bobo thiinks Diablo Kennels is the greatest and apparrently so do all of the other dogs. I was amazed because when I saw that because I thought he was jkust a dog with discerning taste. He loves Jennifer (that's his groomer) and he likes Paul too. And it doesn't seem to matter who comes to get him, he loves the entire staff. We've taken our dogs to Diablo Kennels for 20 years. We started with a 3 lb Maltese and were quite impressed with the kennel area and care she received. So give your dog a treat and tak'em to Diablo Kennels

Okay it has been 5 days since we left this awful place and now my dog has a bacterial ear infection!!! hummmm I wonder why??? I called them on the phone and mentioned how unhappy I was with their service. I mentioned to them that my dog seemed drugged and was very incoherent when I picked him up and the gross man said "PROVE IT". Now I might not have proof but based on that answer there is definately something shady going there!! I brought my dog to Diablo Kennels on a Saturday Afternoon at 2:00 and left him there form 48 hours exactly. My dog came home from this place smelling so foul it was disgusting!! He also lost 4 pounds there in 48 hours!! My dog is pretty big but he is a nice very well taken care of Pitbull who has never bit or hurt anyone ever period.... This kennel breeds German Shepheard's so they should be able to handle a large dog. Read on if you want to hear the whole scoop!! It is horrible.... As soon as I entered the office I it was very dirty, smelly and unorganized. I mean they allow you to bring a dog in this place and they have carpet! They have been abound for 20 some odd years and they cannot even get a hard surface linoleum or something like you would see at any well kept pet establishment (i.e. vet, kennel). They guy seemed kinda nice but definitely not very responsible or someone I would trust. I brought my dog into the office and there was a cat in a cage and my dog obviously want to chase and bark at the cat (we don't have cats, that's why I brought him to a DOG kennel) . Then I helped this man place my Buddy into a dirty cold looking concrete w/ chain link jail cell separate from all other dogs, with the wall covered in tarp, and a wet floor. I said to him.."will he get out of the kennel for a little bit while he's here?" tweaker looking man say's "no with how aggressive your dog is he will definitely not get out." And I hope you all can tell how 'agressive' he is by my profile pic with his best friend and both INTACT males!!!!!! My dog has never bit anyone in his life!! He has never hurt anyone period!!! He was pretty aggressive towards the CAT in a cage okay yeah.... what the heck do you expect You fool? Now I love my dog and if I didn't have a plane to catch I would have not left him there at all!!! But, I did leave this guy a bag with my dog's 2 favorite toys and his bed. Now how freaking hard is it to give my dog his bed and toys so he's not so scared and cold and unfamiliar with everything? When I picked up my dog it was horrible. He acted like he was drugged. He was so terribly stinky! He smelled so foul that I knew right away that he was living in filth and that his cage and now his fur were covered in dog feces and urine etc. He is a short haired dog and never smells bad...EVER! And it was disgusting!! I had to bathe him right away...It has been over 24 hours now and he still seems drugged. Maybe he was? I thought for a while that he at least had his stuff in the cage but then I realized that his toys (a furry raccoon toy and soccer ball) and his foam bed we not covered in the same filth and stench that he was. He was locked in that cold wet stinky and isolated cage for 48 hours. After that I noticed that he looked really thin. So i decided to weigh him And he lost 4 lbs less than the last time I weighed him and he's a growing dog!! I honestly do not think they even fed him at all! It seems as if he was locked in that cage and just left there for 2 days without food or anything. He is a very healthy dog and he eats a lot but has a very fast metabolism. When he got home I could see all his ribs....and his spine is poking out a little bit. When he is depressed and nervous he chews on his feet and when I brought him home his feet were so chewed up that they were swollen and bleeding. He was also very incoherent and groggy like he was drugged. Now I have no proof of this but he neve

We scheduled our puppy for a stay very last minute and Diablo Kennels was fantastic about accommodating the crazy schedule, even on a holiday weekend. After four nights, our puppy returned from her first kennel stay ever tired, excited, and extremely happy; it was fairly obvious she'd gotten attached to the owners. However, I strongly advise against taking advantage of their grooming services. The puppy was supposed to be bathed on the morning I picked her up. It sounds like she was, but she still smelled terrible. Even worse, four of her front claws were trimmed so short they started bleeding in the back seat of the car to the point that I couldn't get them to stop without hefty application of coagulants once we arrived home. None of the claws should have needed trimming in the first place, as we had done this ourselves the week previously. In all, it's a pretty unassuming little place (smoky, dirty, etc) that seems to give dog a good time, but should NOT be allowed to groom your dog. Minus one star for cleanliness, minus one star for the poor grooming, but despite everything, our puppy was still taken care of for great prices and came back happy enough.

My experience with Diablo Kennels was disastrous. When I picked up my 2 dogs and 2 cats from the establishment, I noticed a scab spot near one of my dogs neck, which the owner of DB let me know. It was late at night and the animals were so excited to see me, so we left. The next morning I noticed, 2 more scab spots on my dog and my other dog has considerable hair loss in the neck and tail area to where you can see skin. I immediately took the dogs to vet to get them checked out and had to pay over $300 for exam and medication. Then 2 days later, the owner of DK called to tell me they overcharged me(which I knew after doing the calculation and thinking I was charged too much). I asked her to send the refund to my home, it's been over a month and still no check. I never seen my dogs in such poor shape before, my dogs came back scratching seriously and now my yorkie has dandruff problem which she's never had before prior to their stay at DK. I'm not saying it's the place, but my dogs have not been the same since their stay @ DK. I will never patronize DK again.
