This store is a complete rip off. They make you buy an entire quarts of paint if you want to sample different sheens. They also don’t carry all their color samples and they make you buy an 8oz jar instead of a 2oz sample jar. When I asked why we have to buy a quarts they didn’t give a proper and convincing explanation on why we should by a quarts just to sample sheens other than it’s not cost effective for them if they do it any other way. They charged me $88 for four samples. It’s clear their tactic is to rip off people and charge more for samples. When I complained that most of the paint will go to waste and what they do it’s not good for the environment the guy became rude and asked me to leave the store which I happily did and will never go back to this store again.Message to the owner: Please don't accuse me of harassing your employee. If I continued to speak, it is because your employee asked me if the store manager explained the reason to me why I needed to buy a quart. I replied to her, saying no, he didn't give me a convincing reason other than telling me it's not cost-effective for you to carry samples or give us samples in different sheens, and we need to purchase a quart. I even told her I didn't see it as her fault, but what the store does hurts the environment because most of the paint I bought would go to waste because the only choice you have given me is to buy a quart or walk out. I said that calmly and politely without raising my voice or anything, but the other employee who gave me the reasoning that it is not cost-effective for you to carry all sample paints got upset and became rude and raised his voice and asked me to leave. If you want to applaud their professionalism, it's your choice and that's fine, but don't accuse me of harassment please.

If you have a woodcare project coming up, visit with Craig or Joshua, they're seasoned experts in all things wood.I personally recommend using Sansin because after 13 years in the industry, I haven't found a better product. But don't take my word for it, see the folks at Gray's Paint.

I was trying to get a paint match order and I needed it same day. Brought in a sample of the paint I needed. Initially they said it wouldn't be ready till Mon (it was a Sat) and I asked if they could get it sooner and the manager said "midday". Ok, not ideal but went ahead and ordered. I called 2 hours later and asked if it was ready and they said no. I asked if there was anything i could do to expedite. Again - "no". Not even an explanation. Just a terse "no"! At this point i called Sherwin Williams and they told me it would take them half an hour. They said they would call when it was ready. 1pm comes and I tell my painter they haven't called yet. He says, "I bet you it's ready - probably has been for some time. They always pull crap like that!" Sure enough, I call and wouldn't you know it - it's ready! Then the person says "we tried calling and your VM was full". It was my cell phone. Apparently these guys either don't know how phones work or they don't care that they could be caught in a lie. I looked at my "recent calls" - nothing. I had my wife call and she got my VM and left one. I confirmed the number they used when i picked up the paint. I've bought a fair amount of paint from Gray's in the past though not recently. Won't be buying any more paint from them again. And I hope this review dissuades anyone else from doing so as well. Ok it takes longer and I was asking for same day - but don't just outright lie. That's not the kind of business anyone should work with. Go to Sherwin Williams - I bought some paint from them recently because of a certain color they had. Much better customer service!

My wife went in for two gallons of mixed paint. One of the cans was left only partially sealed. It leaked in the box the clerk packed it in, and when removed from the box, the can opened up and spilled more paint out. Paint leaked and spilled on the driveway, porch, hardwood floors, a table, and two chairs-- and all over my wife's hands and arms. I called the manager of the store to report what happened, and his response and tone conveyed that he couldn't have cared less. He made no apology whatsoever for the mistake, and simply grumbled something about send him a bill for professional cleanup. Call in a cleaning professional? The paint needed to be cleaned up immediately before it dried! We cleaned it up ourselves, which took over two hours. You would think that securing the tops of paint cans before they leave the store would be a priority in a paint shop, or if a mistake like this happened, that the manager would go out of his way to apologize and offer-- at a minimum-- to replace the can of spilled paint. Not at this shop. We will never set foot in Gray's Paint store again.

I was surprised how rude the worker was. He definitely had an attitude and made me regretful for shopping there. I just got my gallon of paint (since I wanted Benjamin Moore) but will shop for all tools and accessories elsewhere. Try to avoid this place if you can.

The guy there was super super rude! If you don't have the paint, if you don't open late, why can't you say nicely. Why treat your customers like a j****** We felt insulted and will not come to this store.

My favorite for a long time has been Benjamin Moore paint products, and I've been going to Gray's since it was on 42nd in San Mateo. The one thong always consistent throughout the years has been the friendly helpful service.

We are putting wood windows in our home and needed help with figuring out a stain color on the pine frame. Craig, the store manager, was impressively helpful. I brought in our window sample and Craig let me pick out 4 stain samples that he opened up and applied on the wood frame. The customer service was fantastic! The store is nice and clean and very inviting.

Worst experiences. He doesn't understand the difference of their own products. A waste of time.
