When I had a question about the advertised price of an item, I was informed by an employee that I had to use the Safeway APP to get the price as advertised when I am physically purchasing my items within the Safeway store. Excuse me!! The particular employee was emphatic that I needed to use their APP to get the advertised price. And you wonder why I pay Seven bucks to cross the bridge to shop at Trader Joe's in Concord?? The price differences on similar items at both stores is significant. In some cases Safeway prices are almost double as compared to TJ's. So Safeway can keep their APP to mislead in-store customers about their their two tier pricing.

When you want a fast meal, the deli in Safeway is a good place to go. I come here a lot on my lunch break, i normally get a sandwich or sushi. I love that they cut meat and cheese fresh for you, if you get there around 9am you can see the sushi being freshly made, you also miss the lunch rush. Service is normally good, everything looks clean tidy, stocked and appealing.

Since when does this Safeway have the right to remove negative reviews? I put a lot of time into reviewing this store with plenty of detail. It was up for a short time. Now the review is gone! I wanted to add to it that the other night I was overcharged on an item. (Happens all the time here.) The Checker gave me partial refund. I said, "the item is supposed to be free." She said she never heard of that policy and she had been working there 10 yrs. She asked another checker who said the same thing, never heard of it. So I went to my car and got my phone to prove it. I went to an available third checker about the refund and she said they didn't have that policy. So I showed her on my phone Safeway's 'promise.' I finally got refunded for the item. I got no apology from her nor the other two checkers who were watching. The employees here are obviously told I think that they, under no circumstances, should give money back unless forced to. On another note, the $7 fresh fruit cup I got here was 50% inedible as half the melon was hard and NOT RIPE. This is a small example of how the employees here are barely trained. In my 70 years, I have never encountered a major grocery store with such unethical practices and lack of regard for customer experience.

I asked for help and someone who was restocking and moving a huge pallets helped mefind what I needed. My kids and I appreciated the friendly and helpful staff. The service was great- the ambiance was clean and everything was price right .Thank you for helping.

Just came by to get some sale items. Saw avocados for 88 cents each. I got 3ea, but when I went to self checkoit I selected avocado, not large. I was charged $2 ea. I asked attendent and he gave me back 50 cents ea. That's still $1.50 each. What happened to 88 cents each? Ripoff store. Not coming back. Bait and switch Need to watch everything they do and call them on it to get the sale price. Shady.

Went here to do a bit of grocery shopping & was able to find all the items I needed on my grocery run. I use the Safeway app to look for the items I need but I must say the only down side about shopping at this Safeway is how terrible the wi-fi reception is. If you do use the Safeway app I would recommend clipping all the coupons & rewards before shopping here. While I was here I checked out the sushi area to see what they have. Lucky for me they had an adorable sushi platter for V-day & the price is super worth it especially how much sushi is in that plate. You would also have to ask the people at the deli for utensils & soy sause packets. The sushi was pretty good & totally would get it again. Pros: easy to find items & good sushi Con:phone reception is kinda terrible here

I shop late because that's what my schedule dictates. I've been shopping at the Benicia Safeway for probably 40 years. I worked in retail so I understand that stocking the shelves is important and I'm willing to weave around the pallets and boxes on the sales floor. It's inconvenient but necessary. I get that, but the last two trips I've noticed a clerk who is quite annoyed by the existence of customers. Last time he threw a box so aggressively that it made a loud boom as it landed pretty close to me and it actually made me jump. I felt it was done on purpose to let me know he didn't appreciate me walking down an aisle he was stocking. Tonight as I walked in the same clerk stated loudly to make sure I heard him, "well I guess we can forget closing early"! I looked around and saw one register open with a long line of people.,,you want to get out early? How about having more than one register open 30 minutes before closing. Most of the employees are friendly but this guy is a rude jerk! Brick and mortar retailers wonder why sales are down. I've got the answer, you have clerks that are rude to your customers. 1/2 of what I buy can be purchased on line. I think it's time to start considering other options.

I visited the store to pickup several different veggies. As I was checking out the cashier, wearing a mask below her mouth but covering her chin, began coughing repeatedly. She apologized but continued coughing as she handled my groceries and the receipt. She appeared to be sick and she should have been covering her mouth with her mask.Once I arrived home I put on gloves and carefully disposed of everything that she had touched except the receipt. I called the store to complain to the "manager". The manager's response was that the cashier was sorry, inferring the cashier was okay to continue at the register. He also took my telephone number. With the current increase in Covid, RSV, and Flu, his response lacked any real concern for Safeway's customers in general.

Simply the best grade workers, great people great atmosphere. It's almost like one of those Costco's in they have food as well simply the best Berkshire Hunt beans, and has Java.

Bought a fillet for 30 bucks. Ended up having bones in it. Checked packaging to make sure it said fillet, which means a boneless cut of meat. Refused to give me a refund because their cash register was running low on change and I do not have a card. Beyond that in general, I try to avoid this place considering their prices and cleanliness.

Weary of the service standards being so low at this store; starting with the staff appearance @ checkout, no identification as an employee, the person was wearing a worn out weekend t-shirt. The Asst. Manager was indifferent & dismissive to feedback re: pricing. While an easy going conversation, the attitude re: "specials" was "take it or leave it"- if you want the price displayed - you have to sign up with our app. or don't shop here. My opinion and experience is the messaging/info lacks convenience & can be considered by many as misleading. This store reflects an apathetic workplace. Older workers are clearly differentiated - not simply by their age - call it pride and experience with having developed & adhered to standards est. amongst generations where it was clear that professionalism was expected and required - "bagger's" to managers. These more experienced employees must feel silence is the only path to keeping their job. It's hard to have empathy for employees who are by "appearances" only invested in the moment, who simply abrogate investment in the future - theirs and coworkers, and don't seem to care about the consequences of being marginal - going through the motions with no sense of consideration or urgency. Another poor experience makes me kind of wish for automation to accelerate - eliminating the ignorance and indifference of the management & staff altogether. Still, that's not a solution for a lack of accountability & leadership. Corporate should be setting, supporting, & demanding clear standards and expectations for the entire customer experience. Then again, maybe they have - and it's me and the others who've rated this store an overall rating of two stars that should be reminded - as I was, that "it's a choice" - which is absolutely correct. I left and finished my shopping elsewhere. I will continue to shop elsewhere whenever possible.

This Review is for the Deli section. I stopped in to have a sandwich made and ordered smoked Turkey as the meat choice. The deli clerk advised me that they had only regular turkey cut and that would be my only choice. I also wanted onions on the sandwich but wad told there was none. Was it to far to walk and cut smoked turkey and how about onions none available in the grocery store ?

Why is the feminine hygiene product Vagisil (cost 8.00) locked in a case with birth control and pregnancy tests, while Lotrimin for male hygiene (cost 13.00) is on the shelf? It's not about anti-theft. The feminine product is less expensive than the male counterpart. Why is it locked up? Why do women need to ask and feel embarrassed? Men can just grab their product and head to check out. I went next door to Rite-Aid to purchase what I needed, right off the shelf. I guess Rite-Aid respects it's female customers more than Safeway does.

This is generally one of the smaller Safeway's that I've seen. The selection is pretty small, with only a couple of brands being offered for many items and relatively little selection. The prices, while a bit cheaper than Raley's on average, are not much better. They're often out of random items like most brands of milk and cream cheese. The whole store also just feels cramped and dirty. Maybe I was spoiled by other Safeways in the past, but this is easily the least enjoyable one to shop at. The fruit and meat selection in particular is pretty weak here. Prices are okay, but be warned that they can be misleading and not ring up the same way. Service is often overwhelmed by too few staff, but generally fine. Benicia could really use a couple more/better grocery options...
