Just a bummer experience here, came in as a new potential customer who is trying to buy a first bike and I felt like I was wasting their time. Super snobby attitude and it was disappointing for someone trying to get into something I'm not familiar with. Went to another bike store and had a totally opposite experience with friendly and helpful staff which confirmed my feeling of how bad this experience made me feel.

Extremely bad experience. I was picking up my 4yo and 8yo sons from school and got a flat tire mid way through the trip. I had a hungry kid in the back seat and another one to pick up urgently. I was close to Berkeley Cycle Works so came to the store. They flatly refused to do anything (‘we only service our own bikes’) and started asking me questions like ‘where did you buy it’, which was very unhelpful. When I insisted and asked if they had a kit I could buy to fix it myself, they pulled out some items I could buy, but they would not let me use any pump or tool (‘we don’t rent tools’) so I had to take a 6 miles walk home. Pathetic mentality. Avoid that store.

Great selection and service for Giant and Liv brand bikes. Liv bikes, gear, and clothing are designed specifically for women. If they don’t have what you are looking, for Mike will order it for you! Highly recommend

Really disappointing experience. Besides Mike being very surly, they did a terrible job repairing my tires, and did not take responsibility or try to make it better. They were asked to retape and put regular orange seal in there (I very explicitly asked for regular and not endurance). I come to find that the tires are still leaking like crazy, and that they had used orange seal endurance. So some $80 later I still have leaky tires, complete with not the sealant I asked for. Go somewhere else for your bike needs.

Excellent bike shop. I bought a bike here today for my son, and the owner (Mike) was very helpful. He was not pushy at all. The prices were fair and the service was great -- it was like an old school bike shop experience. For those who miss the Missing Link and other Berkeley bicycle shops that have closed doors, this is the place to come now. Highly reommended.

I recently had a bike with numerous problems that needed almost a complete replacement of every part of the drive chain (except the crank itself). While most bike shops would have tried to up-sell me on a new bike and laugh at the old one, they actually listened and did a fantastic job of repairing what was needed. They were reasonable, but not cheap, in their estimation and ultimate cost of repair - no lowball estimates here. The owner Mike is an honest, no-nonsense type of guy, who won't lie to you if he doesn't think something is worth fixing. The younger guy, Eli, is great. He also did the repairs and spent way more time doing it (in other words, extra value from my point of view), than I expected. I was very satisfied with his work! I recommend them,

I really like Giant Bikes but would never ever purchase anything from this poor excuse for a bike shop. Owner is very rude, bigoted and generally not a nice person. Why people like this are in this industry is beyond logic. There are plenty of bike shops in TBA and in Berkeley specifically. Do yourself a favor and skip this place and instead shop somewhere else. This place has provided me with the most horrible experience I have ever had at any bicycle shop anywhere. I have been to this shop 3 times. First time I was there 5 minutes and made a $25 purchase yet treated poorly. I went back two more times with intent of buying things and did not because I was treated so poorly. All three times I left wondering why I even would bother but I do like Giant Bikes. This last time, number 4, was a simple phone call where the same owner, Mike, basically accused me of not knowing anything about bikes even though I have managed two bike shops and was a mechanic at two others having an excellent track record. I wish people like Mike would stay away from the Bicycle industry as such people do a huge disservice to people seeking a reputable bike shop for either service or sales. This is the most pathetic excuse for a bike shop that I have ever personally experienced.

After calling a handful of shops in the area, I couldn't find one that could cut my aero seat post. Luckily, Berkeley Cycle Works (and Mike) was able to get it done. I was greeted by Eli at the door and he immediately asked me if I needed help - great first impression! Turn around time was as promised and I received some nuggets of information along the way. Great experience. Will be coming back!
