This place is a hidden gem in the Bay Area. Their chaat was authentic Indian and very fresh. Must try the Aloo Tikki Chile.

I like the pani puri and the dosas. They come with sambar, which is nice and spicy. Ordering, particularly during busy times, can take a while, but there's plenty of seating.

I genuinely think Vik's Chaat is a bit over rated. First I visited this place where I took a take away order for seekh kebab roll and Shammi kebab on the weekend. The food was very average but I am a strong believer in second chances. I went there again and they have a great area to sit outdoors to enjoy the sun in this cozy weather. Me and my friends ended up ordering the Masala Dosa, Chole Bhature, Gol gappe and Aloo Tikki. The Gol Gappe were one of the best I have had, really good flavour. But the rest of the things were very average specially the Aloo Tikki was too bland and wasn't crisp at all, but the cholas served alongside made it better. The chole bhature were good but nothing great about it. I have had much better Indian food in the Bay Area! They have a great grocery store inside,m with a lot of variety, so would recommend that for sure.

Vik's has been a Bay Area classic for years. Love this place: the chill vibes, the amazing chaat, and the chaos at times. The chaat really is some of the best in the Bay, and this place has truly been an enduring staple over the years. I'd recommend all their food, but when we went most recently, we had their veggie pakoras, chai, koliwada fish, dahi papdi chaat, along with a to-go Tandoori chicken thali which we have yet to devour. We loved every bit of food we tried. The pakoras were crisp and flavorful, the chai was delicious and creamy, the fish pakoras were tender + crispy with bomb taste, and the dahi papdi chaat was a delightful combination of perfect textures and flavors. The staff are also very nice!

I have lived over 3 years in India so know a thing or two about authentic Indian cuisine. Vik's Chaat is authentic Indian cuisine at it's best. Come early for lunch or budget time as there is a long wait time. India is probably the most vegetarian country in the world yet dairy there is ubiquitous. In India many restaurants are fully vegetarian not serving eggs yet always serve dairy. The dosas here are authentic & the sambhar as well as chutneys are tasty.
There are several items at Vik's Chaat labeled vegan which is great yet would love a vegan option for the weekday lunch special. Raita is on the vegetarian weekday lunch special featuring yogurt or curd perhaps for a vegan option add another veggie dish or more roti instead of the raita. Berkeley has a sizable vegan population so think this would be a reasonable option at Vik's Chaat.
Besides the authentic cuisine one thing that makes you realize you are in Berkeley & not in India is a visit to the loo. There you will find a stand up waterless urinal that saves 40,000 gallons per year. The toilet is dual flush saving 22,000 gallons a year. Plus you dine on authentic metal thali plates with compostable sporks (spoons & forks made from corn).
A meal at Vik's Chaat is a true Berkeley experience worth seeking out.
Props for being eco-friendly & a weekday vegan lunch special would shift things to five stars!

SERVICE- located in an unassuming area of Berkeley - large parking lot in front- outdoor seating in parking lot and plenty of indoor tables- order at counter and then seat yourself- market in front sells Indian groceries and frozen versions of items from the restaurant - food made fresh and quickly MENU- Indian chaat and meals- vegan and vegetarian options- well priced ($10 per dish)FOOD- samosa chole (9/10): two flaky pastry pyramids filled with spicy potato and peas and served with a side of chickpea curry topped with onion and chutneys. This is a very satisfying snack meal to share between 2 people or as a meal for one. The filling has the right balance of chili spice and floral notes from the fennel. The chole is cooked and warm which is a great accompaniment to the samosa. WOULD I COME BACK?Yes! I have been here once before as a child and will definitely be coming back

I went to Viks and tried the tandoori chicken thaali, I found it to be expensive as far as the bang for your buck goes. The chai was also a bit watered down. Cost of food aside, I found the chicken and rice was delicious though, lots flavor and very fresh! Service was great, definitely reminds me of the motherland

I had a wonderful experience at Vik's Chaat in Berkeley, CA with my daughter and her family. We explored the menu and enjoyed a variety of delicious dishes. The Dahi Batata Puri was bursting with flavors, combining tangy yogurt, spicy chutney, and crispy puris filled with potatoes. The Chole Bhature was a delightful match of fluffy bhature and flavorful chickpea curry. The exceptional Dosa had a thin, crispy texture with a savory filling, complemented by chutneys and sambar. We opted for the weekend dinner special, which included perfectly cooked Basmati rice, rich Dal, refreshing Raita, and tender Tandoori Chicken with a beautiful charred exterior. We also enjoyed refreshing drinks, including bold and zesty Bruce Cost ginger ale and delightful Maaza lychee. The food at Vik's Chaat was of the highest quality, bursting with authentic Indian flavors and prepared with attention to detail. The service was friendly and prompt, and the ambiance was lively and welcoming. I highly recommend Vik's Chaat for a memorable and delicious Indian dining experience in Berkeley, CA.Please note that this review reflects my personal experience and the menu items available at Vik's Chaat at the time of my visit, which may have changed.

Despite the rise in food prices, Vik's Chaat is still a deal. We recently ordered a couple of Thali plates, one fish, one vegetarian. I love their sauces, the spicing, and fresh ingredients. Something to keep in mind is that their portions have not gotten smaller over the years. Their food is the star and still delicious. It was Friday, we arrived early enough to avoid the lunch rush. By the time we ordered the line was out the door. Service when ordering is polite and efficient. Like the rest of the world, they accept Apple/Google Pay.Note: when choosing a table, try to sit at one with a center post embedded into the concrete floor. We originally sat at a small table that wobbled so badly that a quarter of hot chai spilled out of the cup. We ended up wiping down the table before vacating for one that didn't move.
