Amazing teachers and great vibe - very much recommended. Great value vs other gyms as well. I wasn't familiar with Bikram Yoga prior although I practiced many other forms of Yoga. The heated space really up levels the experience and I can totally let go and really engage with my body in a healthy way. Teacher's provide a great balance in which you're "pushed" only so far you're getting the best out of yourself including honoring you're own limits. Overall very much recommended!

I only have amazing things to say about this studio. I personally teach pilates and have loved to branch out my understanding and practice by trying out other studios and methods, but Funky Door has stood out in every category. Best teachers, best atmosphere, and fantastic classes all around. After my first class I was instantly hooked and I always leave feeling satisfied. I live part time in Berkeley but my primary residence is in San Jose, and I will always make the hour drive to come to their classes, it’s that good. This studio is truly one of a kind, and every person I introduce their classes to feels the same.

Absolutely an amazing place! My wife and I love it here. The community is wonderfully joyous. The teachers are all great. They have an array of classes from the traditional bikram yoga to Pilates to mixed tapes to all kinds of pop ups. A great workout with great people. What could be better!

I'd love to give this place a 5/5, they have great staff, lovely Pilates and yoga classes, and a decent membership fee. I loved coming here, went pretty much every day for a month when I got my membership! Unfortunately it was a 3/5 because I had to stop going due to their cleanliness, or lack there of. The floors are carpeted which makes the place smell like someone's nasty socks. The rooms are so so so crammed - to the point where I was disrupted mid class by late comers who barely had room. Even though I was on time and picked my spot I was forced to accommodate by the instructor so that was annoying. But honestly, I would have stayed at the studio if it were just that, but between the smell and all the people, and the closed space where we exercise, I got sick. I kept getting sick actually, and it wasn't until I stopped going that I felt better. It was an upper respiratory thing - makes sense for all the funk in that room lol. They must call it funky door for the smell haha. But yeah. That's my two cents.

Pros: I found the studio more tuned towards workout than meditation. I loved the Pialtes classes. They are kind of a party. Particularly, one of the teachers danced to the tune I don't like the high temperature The Bikram yoga is the most miserable physical activity in my view. They do it better than other studios. But still I cannot give 5 star to an studio that offers Bikram Yoga. Not to mention the scandals. They have showers.

I was in Berkeley for a week and took the early class here every morning. All the teachers were amazing. The front desk staff was super helpful and kind. Highly recommended.

I just moved to sf and am so grateful to have found this wonderful community. The staff are so supportive and the energy in the studio is unmatched! There really isn’t a hot yoga studio in the city like funky door yoga.

This place is spectacular in every meaning of the word. The people who come here are all great, the vibes of the place feel wonderful, there's hot yoga, hot Pilates, and other pop ups all the time (ecstatic dance, sound bath & somatic breathing). Your membership here is also good at the SF location and Yoga Hell in Petaluma. If you need help, ask for Zoey. She's the absolutely best. Golden retriever energy.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS STUDIO. since the day I joined, I have felt like so welcomed by everyone there. I have became so close with instructors & they have pushed me to become my best self (even when I have low energy.) seriously thank you so much Kat, Ry, Lynn, Carl, Carolina, Jocelyn & so many others for pushing me every class and being a safe place. If you ever had any doubt about joining a Pilates studio, don't this studio is so great & the atmosphere is like no other (try their new back studio, the vibes are immaculate). Started at 245 and currently down to 223, all thanks to the great instructors. Love you Funky Door

I chose to visit Funky Door for my Pilates needs, bypassing a nearby franchise alternative. The classes there contributed positively to my physical and mental fitness objectives. As I am already a member of another gym and only practice Pilates monthly, I preferred buying class passes on an as-needed basis for greater flexibility. Initially, everything went smoothly; I would attend classes every few weeks without any issues. However, when my credits started dwindling and I wished to purchase a five-class pass, I was informed that this option was unavailable. While even CorePower offers such a package, my main concern was not the lack of this offering but rather the manner in which the staff, particularly an individual named RT, communicated this to me. RT's aggressive and passive-aggressive demeanor made me feel so uneasy that I resolved never to return. I didn't protest; I simply left, reflecting on the irony of a business that claims to be community-focused and small-scale yet lacks in flexibility and customer service. Consequently, I've decided to fulfill my Pilates requirements with franchised competitors. Despite the quality of the classes at Funky Door, their rigidity and poor customer service were significant drawbacks. For those who prioritize flexibility and customer service less, Funky Door might still be a viable option.

This is initials M.S writing this review, if it's in need to look up for reference for accuracy. I'm only remaining private by using my parent's email account, not my direct contact one in hopes of feeling safe after posting this review. I want to feel comfortable writing and posting this honest, and factual review. I will never forgot what had happened to me on the month of June 2023. I was a member of Funky door yoga for many years, I had zero issues with the previous owners, and spent over at least starting 3k + total in membership fees, and for many months I never even attended to any classes. For many years, I rarely stayed for savasana in any of the classes due to the women's locker being usually overcrowded. The women’s locker room, only having 3 shower rooms, and it's challenging to even to make space for yourself to change your clothes after when you shower. Due to people checking in and leaving it’s a mess. So, I usually leave 5 mins or earlier, and it has never been an issue. Or even if I arrived late, I know certain pose it's okay to still drop in. Again, I had zero issues with previous owners and even the new instructors that is still teaching at Funky door yoga.My reason for posting this review is to all young women beware of taking Jeff R. (Owner) classes. I attended his class twice in the year of 2023. The second class I took of him, made me decide to cancel my membership. It was when I attended his class on July 2023 during my experience in Jeff class it left me thinking that his behavior towards me was very condescending, discriminating, and even assaultive. I did not give him any permission to touch me, nor in anyway expected him to stop me, and grab me by my arm while I was planning to leave his class. On the month of July 2023 during one of Jeff R class I have taken, I decided not to stay in Savanna as usual for many years. I was already standing up and getting ready to take off. Jeff R stopped me and grabbed my arm or asked me ‘Where are you going? You came to my class late and are now leaving early, stay until the end of class!’ I was startled and stayed. I canceled my membership and decided never to return. The cancellation process is a headache, and I feel exactly how the other customer posted reviews from Josh K. about the cancellation policy. Also expect to pay another month even if you cancel during mid of the month. It's none of his business if I choose to leave the class early and never been an issue with other instructors and past instructors, and fact that the Women's restroom only has 3 showers, and usually crowded and no space to get out when it's time for you to want to change or get out to the door. how do you expect us to leave in a timely manner and usually there is a long wait for the women showers after class is over.

I've experienced the Funky Door first in Berkeley in the early 2000s and more recently at the Yoga Hell studio in Petaluma where I now live. The owners are top notch teachers, with a wealth of training and experience, and the additional teachers are excellent. I'm excited that they are now reviving the Funky Door in Berkeley and re-opening in San Francisco. They take great pains to set an upbeat tone, including music and a disco atmosphere for the Pilates classes and some of the yoga classes. They take hygiene seriously, and ask students at the end of every class to use sanitizers to clean their area. I find the staff particularly welcoming and positive. Can't recommend the place highly enough.
