This place is leaving on November 30,2025. Too bad that the leasing people can't make an agreement to stay.

Great place to spend some time treasure hunting! One of my favorite bookstores. I wish there were more in the bay!

Great used book store. It's a wonderful place to spend time browsing books. They also buy books so if you have extra and the local lending libraries are full bring em down.

Sold me a broken blu ray, which took me about 31 days to discover, so of course they wouldn't give me a refund. What a scam. At least I got store credit.

I love Half Price Books! I usually visit the one in Citrus Heights, which is not nearly as large as this store is. Great selection of reasonably priced used books in a comfortable, well-organized store. What more is there to say!

Even if you have really great books to sell, don’t bother. They are going to put most of my books on the shelf, but offered me literally a dollar for a large bag of decent hardback books that I had bought there over the past few years.
Cold attitude of the buyback guy doesn’t help.
Front staff are kind and helpful.
For the record, I’ve been coming here for decades and have brought in books to sell a few times. In the past, you’d enough money to buy yourself a new book and maybe a cup of coffee at the very least. I have a big library and I’m an avid reader, and most of my books are hard bound ones around interesting nonfiction, topics with durable appeal.

Great books, but smells horrible inside. Heads up. Wear a mask to prevent coughing from the old and dirty odors of the building. I would like to return but I can't due to this. 🫤 No exaggeration here.

Probably the smallest half priced books I've been too, and yet I still found a stack of movies to load on home!

Sold some books. One of the only places in the Bay Area that will buy used books. Didn’t get a ton of value, but the other option was to donate, so felt good to get a little cash for them.

Great selection of books thanks to its close location to Cal.

The most wonderful bookstore for kids and adults. There are used, new books, albums, fun retail items and the employees are always on point and helpful. They know the stuff. They take trade ins for credit or cash!

Very disappointing. Came here to sell books they don’t tell you you have to stay in the store the whole time that they can take like 40 minutes to sort through them. I have a service animal. Not an emotional support, but an ex will PSA. The booksellers told me I could not let my dog out to go to the restroom, even though it’s a law. I came here on July 27 at 2:41 2025 in case you’re in the store and want to see who is working. I then reported to the person at the front desk the situation and they were super rude. If a service animal has to use the restroom and you refuse to let the person leave the store even though they ask permission and that person is like friendly and totally normal then you can ban me from selling books all you want because I’m gonna ban myself from shopping at your store and I’m really disappointed that I bookstore that’s been in Berkeley for 40 years would treat anyone like this it’s absolutely Ridiculous and really depressing. I’m sure the fact that I’m a white Jewish male had nothing to do with it.
