I’m so happy to have found a go-to salon and a stylist who I can trust! Modena is a beautiful, light and airy, plant-filled space and Vesi is a true artist in his approach to cuts & color - not to mention, fun to be around.
I went in for a hair color, added a hair trim last minute, and left with a rich chocolately brown color Vesi expertly mixed from three colors and a major improvement to my haircut. Vesi walked me through areas from a previous haircut that needed to be corrected (gaps in layers, places where my hair had been thinned out) and worked his magic while making me laugh, singing along to the music playing in the salon (he has a beautiful voice!), and sharing his passions for healthy living in the Bay Area, sports, nature, travel, family and friends.
Highly recommend Vesi - he’s an expert stylist who knows what styles will bring out your natural features.

Love this salon! It is a modern and relaxing space to get your hair done. The staff are super friendly and I am always greeted with a smile at the front desk when I arrive. Kim (the owner) is very knowledgeable, and a skilled stylist and colorist who I have been going to for over 15 years. I travel from San Ramon to the Berkeley salon every 6 weeks because she does such a great job. I wouldn’t consider going anywhere else. Highly recommended!

My Update as of Thursday June 27th I reached out to Kim the owner in the morning a women picked up and said she was not available I received a return call back today around 1:50pm let me tell you that Kim is only here to cover her self , basically the only reason she responded to my yelp was to “look like she was being a good owner” and to lecture me and let me know that I was wrong , even though her employee was extremely negative to the point of being bullied into a haircut because of his constant negativity through out the entire hour of me being there . I made the appointment to get a trim and a blow out . The entire time I was there Vesi only spoke negative comments about my hair, I was suppose to relax and not deal with some ones negativity and constant badgering about my textured hair . Kim also stated that it is not their responsibility to be considerate of clients state of mind. she stated that know one cares about any ones mental health ,or there “mental state” man I booked an appointment for some self care and to get my hair done like any women would want and for her not to comprehend that some one being that negative and bullied me into doing something I didn’t want is horrible . Definitely stay away from this business especially if you have textured hair . Don’t even go here for self care you’re definitely going to walk out drained. I didn’t wait a month to leave a yelp or even reach out because I thought I would just get over it and brush it off but a month has done nothing for my length or experience I had so I decided to finally vent about it now . Kim obviously asked me an a suspicious way . Like “so why did you wait until now to contact us about it” first I didn’t contact you i left a yelp about my experience you responded like you cared about your clients my experience on the phone with you shows what’s wrong and it also shows in your workers. I created a yelp just to let every one know my experience you suck for not being a nice human being and carrying about your clients an every way. Good luck as an owner.

I booked an appointment with Vessi about a month ago, and I want to commend the great service I received. Vessi was very sweet and accommodating. My primary goal was to get my ends trimmed, as I was aware that my hair was not in the best condition. However, I did not want to cut all of my hair off. Vessi suggested that my hair would not look nice unless everything damaged was cut off. While I understood his professional opinion, I did not want to go short. Unfortunately, Vessi made a negative comment about how my hair would never look nice until the blonde was completely removed. He also pointed out how my hair was breaking of as he rubbed strains of my hair harshly with his finger tips stating "see no good" if he seen that happening why not just suggest some things I can do to heal it a bit my hair was not as bad as he made it to be but this comment made me feel less confident about expressing my preference for a simple trim. He partly made me feel like he just didn't want to deal with cutting my hair as it was , so of course it's was easier for him just to chop it off . Now, almost a month later, I am very unhappy with my haircut. It is too short, has many layers. As a result, my hair is unmanageable. I believe the owner should retrain the staff on the following points: 1. Avoid making negative comments about clients' hair. We go there to feel better not be bombarded with more anxiety from negativity. 2. Educate clients about the condition of their hair without using it as an excuse to make the stylist's job easier. If a stylist is unsure how to cut a certain type of hair, they should speak up. 3. Ask clients what they truly want instead of imposing a set perspective. Vessi also recommended that I purchase a $42 hair mask and a $25 leave-in conditioner. I have not seen any difference an my hair. With the products I purchased. While I appreciate the advice, it would have been more helpful if he had suggested treatments that would help achieve a bit of more health for the length i already had and wanted to stay at. Although the environment and building were pleasant, I cannot recommend this salon due to their lack of respect for clients' opinions and preferences. I would like a full refund to compensate for extensions for the length of hair I walked in with . That I should have had walking out.

* Do not Uber to Modena Salon! The name of the salon comes up and you select that, but it is not the right address- they have not updated their new address. 1. I was told to come in and see what the available hairdresser would have time for (I said I wanted coloring done). She could have told me when his next apt was to begin with! Once I am in the chair with their newest staff, I learn he has 2 hours and will not accommodate any aspect of my coloring (money piece, partial highlights- which I already have but are outgrown). 2. Immediately he tells me that what we will do today, without ASKING, is a haircut. Continues to condescendingly tell me that I am in need for that and not coloring. Tells what he wants to do to my hair, and I reply telling him, no, I don't want that. Continues to mansplain his idea of the haircut I need. I tell him my concerns with that, and that at most I'd be happy to cut no more than 3 1/2 inches, but no more and no more layers. He replied as though he heard and would not cross those requests, except for saying that I need layers if I want it to look good at all, and that we won't do more around my face like I asked. 3. So I say, okay, let's do it. Immediately, within 45 seconds, dry hair, chops off approx. 6-7 inches before walking me for a shampooing. I couldn't leave like that obviously, it was chopped, not cut. My hair was down past my hips. It is now just below my chest. 4. To end it here, because coming from that was entirely draining: my head has never been so rough handled. From smacking me in the face with my own hair during the hair cut, to pulling it intensely as he tossed it, to smacking me in the face with his own hands when tossing it, to scratching and hitting my face with the drying brush. What was supposed to be an uplifting, calm experience is hands down the worst salon experience I've ever had. I left feeling tired and out of tolerance. I need a refund.

I have had my hair cut by Corynne twice by now and she did such an amazing job both times. She is very diligent. Corynee takes the time to understand exactly what you are looking for and has great attention to details once she gets to work. Best haircut I’ve ever gotten:)!

Corynne is the best stylist I have ever had! She's super kind and takes the time to understand your hair and your needs. I felt listened to and not rushed at all. She worked with me to achieve the look I wanted—and I've never felt better about my hair. Corynne is the best!!!

I have been going to Modena Salon for a year now and have seen most of the stylists. They are all fantastic. Most recently I got a cut and highlights with Kim. The color and cut is beautiful and exactly what I wanted. Kim really listens to what you want and works with the particular quirks of your hair. (I have thick, coarse, wavy hair that can be difficult.) The salon is a nice space with very professional and welcoming staff. I highly recommend it.

Only place in Berkeley to get haircuts with wavy/curly hair. Chase is great.
If you go in with a clear idea (Pinterest inspo) she will help you come out with a beautiful haircut.
On the pricier side , especially as a college student, but if it's only every 6 months or so, it's well worth it.

I had the best experience at modena salon! Kim cut my long hair into an extremely chic bob and I couldn't be happier with the result. Kim is amazing and everyone is so friendly and easygoing. I definitely plan to go back, and I highly recommend to anyone looking for a salon!Service: Haircut

I was a bridesmaid for my friends wedding and had such a great experience with Kim. She asked each of us how we normally wear our hair, so that our hair was styled in the way that was comfortable. Kim did an amazing sophisticated twist/bun and placed the bridesmaid hair accessory so beautifully. It was beyond my expectations and I had so many compliments! My hair lasted throughout the day and night, dancing and partying away. And bonus, Kim squeezed in some time to do some quick curls and pinned in a beautiful hair accessory in my daughter's hair without an appointment. She felt like a princess and it made her day! Simply and truly amazing!
