Just went there today for the first time and definitely the last time. I got some glass cut work to be done and gave them the exact size, back home I see it is actually bigger that my order. So I went back to Outdoor, and while they admitted it was their responsibility, they claimed that they could not fix it and they don’t have any solution but to come another time. There were 4 professionals in front of me including the manager and no one was able to cut the glass properly. But I would have to come another time?? Finally one of them told me I could get reimbursed, and that I should better go to Ace Hardware. Ok fair.
Going back to the cashier, the same person I paid to two hours earlier told me that since I paid cash they could not pay be back. She could clearly remember me, though I did not have the receipt.
The manager standing next was having a fun time when looking at me… what an unprofessional place !! Run !!

I appreciate this place :). OSH is old school and much more pleasant experience than other big hardware stores. They have all the basic. More specialized things might call for other stores but this is my go-to whenever possible.
Finding someone to help isn't always the easiest but it's likely because they are helping someone else.
I always get great support and friendly people.
Philip Rogers was working temporarily at the Ashby store from his normal Moraga location... And he was awesome. We tracked down exactly what I needed and had a great conversation to top it off about the history of sound recording for movies and music in Emeryville/Berkeley and some of the trailblazers in the area (which he is one of).
Thanks OSH. Headed back now for something I'm gonna guess and hope you have!

I needed a bunch of paint and the employee was very friendly and helpful. Store is clean and organized. Plant selection could be a bit more varied.

I go here cause I’m less worried of my car being broken into compared to Oakland Home Depot. And service is way better. They usually have what I need for smaller projects. For me it’s here, and Grand Lake Ave hardware, but I come here for harder to find items. Selection better since it’s a bigger store.

For most things, OSH is better than Home Depot any day of the week. The people who work there actually know stuff, are friendly, and are happy to help you with home project advice or whatever. Plus it's right next to Berkeley Bowl. It may not be as much of a hardcore lumber/contractor store as Ashby Lumber or Truitt and White, but for everything else OSH is a fine choice.

Good selection of items, with inventory similar to a big box store like Home Depot. The nursery area has lots of outdoor plants. There is a large parking lot and there is electric car charging nearby.

Came at 6:58pm on Wednesday and the store was already closed with the door locked. Staff refused to stay open until 7pm.

They are way better than Home Depot, and there have an invaluable selection of things not carried by their competitors. The store is always super clear. The staff are very helpful.
