Extremely helpful, knowledgeable, kind, accommodating man. No sleazy vibes whatsoever and always does a good job. Me and my family have been seeing him since I was a child. Highly recommend

V, the guy who runs this place is fantastic. I wouldn’t take my car anywhere else, and always consult him if the dealership says I need something. He’s been incredibly honest and his prices are more than fair, often half of what I’ve been quoted elsewhere. He’s even refused to charge me for small fixes and talked me out of paying him to fix up my old car when it was clear to him I’d be better off selling it! He’s worked on my old 3 series BMW and newer Toyota Avalon. Highly recommend. Don’t be dismayed by the old building or lack of fancy website, (less overhead means better pricing for you!) he knows what he’s doing and is great at it. Really seems to just like helping people and fixing cars. Give him a call, you won’t regret it. If he can’t fix it (some newer models have electrical systems that require special equipment), he’ll make a recommendation, refer you and tell you what’s reasonable. Dude is just awesome. Wish all mechanics were like him.

Peter’s is the real deal. I called for an appointment on a Friday morning expecting to be told I would need to wait next week or just turned to voicemail like the other couple places I tried, and I believe Peter answered, immediately told me to come in, and within about 15 minutes fixed my vehicle and didn’t charge me a cent. I feel very grateful for honest, kind mechanics like Peter’s.

My car started making a horrible sound while I was volunteering at the UC. I called the owner and he was able to make time for me right then, fixed my issue in less than 15 minutes, and didn't even charge me anything due to it being an easy fix. This guy is honest, quick, and kind. Couldn't have had a better experience, I'd rate him higher than 5 stars if I could.

Vi works wonders on older cars, at very reasonable, honest prices, and our older cars are always performing very well , well past "normal" thanks to his diligent care.

I’ve been away from the Bay for a few years now, and one of the losses is Peter’s Automotive and Vee’s honest, competent car repair. I probably owe Vee back pay for all the good work he did at such incredibly reasonable prices; and all the help he gave me besides, when I couldn’t come into the shop but could do something about the issue on my own. He literally saved my car when I was on the road, when another mechanic told me unequivocally that the engine was destroyed based on what I’d reported. Two years later, the car’s still running. I cannot recommend this shop enough; and I do recommend it, to everyone I know still living in the Bay. Bonus: it’s within walking distance to both North Berkeley BART and the gourmet neighborhood, which makes dropping off your car an easy and pleasant experience. Peter’s Automotive kept my cars running at low cost for years; let my loss be your gain. Take advantage of one of the remaining honest, home-grown businesses in the Bay.

Took my car in to get looked at and was helped no questions asked! They were able to do the work for me but sourced some other places that could! Great neighborhood shop, felt like I was treated like a regular even though it was my first time going in!

I love everything about this auto shop - the small, old time garage, the neighborhood location which makes getting there so easy, the fast, competent and affordable service, but most of all = the owner, David, who took over from Peter - the longtime owner who retired after leaving his mark as a Berkeley icon. David is so smart, honest and helpful - there is no hustle, no push for unnecessary expenses, truly a mechanic this old lady trusts implicitly.

V is the best. After being quoted for over $10k of work from the Subaru dealership, we were in the process of selling our car since the repairs would cost more than the car. I decided to take my car to V to get a second opinion and I am so glad I did. He was able to check out the car and was very honest about work that was urgent and work that can wait. He caught that my timing belt needed to be replaced-something the dealership missed. V was able to squeeze us in last minute, we got an honest assessment of the car. We will be back, and will be bringing our other car to V as well. 10 stars! Thanks V!!

Vi was suggested to us by very a good friend. He is skilled at working on older Subarus. My car was a 2000 Subaru Forester. We had this loud roaring noise in the back of our car and he was able to identify the issues right away. Now the car runs smooth without noise. Honest and trustworthy mechanic.

Let me premise this by saying I’m an auto technician of 8 years who is currently in school. I called Peter’s automotive asking them to do a simple 20 minute job for 1987 BMW. The car is a incredibly simple car to work on. The owner, “V”, very rudely said he doesnt work on BMWs and hung up to phone before I could say anything. Terrible customer service.Don’t take your car to a shop that cant work on a car that is so simple, as they are likely to mess up anything more complex. Not only that, but poor customer service usually indicates dishonesty.I called the next shop down the road, and they didn’t care what car I had.
