The staff at this establishment are both professional and helpful. In particular, I would like to highlight the exemplary service provided by Eduardoe in the maintenance department. Eduardoe consistently demonstrates a high level of responsibility and helpfulness, responding promptly to issues and efficiently resolving them.Additionally, Timothy from the leasing office stands out for his dedicated efforts to assist residents. He is consistently responsive and goes above and beyond to address any concerns or inquiries.Furthermore, I appreciate the friendly demeanor and thorough cleaning efforts of the cleaning lady. Her consistent attention to detail ensures that the building is always maintained to a high standard of cleanliness.

Timothy couldn’t have been more helpful and informative. The building is by far the nicest and most well-managed that I saw out of 8 multi-story buildings and the location can’t be beat.

Current staff in leasing are helpful and professional. Maintenance is responsive and efficient. The housekeeping works tirelessly to keep the property beautiful. The location is centrally located with convenient access to campus, grocery stores, restaurants, music, and art venues. The building is new with modern finishes, however, the smoke alarms are so sensitive making it impossible to use the grill on the stovetop.

I looked at many places to live in Berkeley and hands down The Addison is the new crown jewel in Downtown Berkeley for discerning renters. Opened in June 2020, it features a friendly staff and state of the art security, locks, and amenities. I moved-in on Oct. 31, 2020. Many of the features are very well thought out and just plain cool. For example, when throwing out the trash, you don't need to touch the handle to the chute--simply wave your hand and a motion detector opens the door. The building front door takes a photo of every non-resident that attempts to enter and sends the resident a picture of the person to verify that it’s the correct visitor. Unlocking the front door is a mere swish on the resident's smartphone. The in-unit appliances are very nice Samsung and Bosch units. The facility is brand new, and you might have to test things, because no one's lived in the unit before. Any issues I had were dealt with by Miles, the head of maintenance, who was very friendly and efficient. The leasing process with Ashley and Victoria was attentive, friendly, and very efficient. My first 5-days of living in the building has been an excellent experience.

The parking machinery in the Addison has damaged my car and the landlord refuses to take any responsibility for it. They have a 3-level parking system that shuttles the cars around and if your car is on the top or bottom level, the system raises or lowers your car to the exit (middle) level when you want to take your car out. When I moved in, Miles, the maintenance guy, measured my car and Ashley, the manager, assigned me a space on the bottom level. What they didn’t tell me was that their mechanical shuttle system was going to rip apart my antenna and pull loose the base of the antenna, breaking the rubber piece that covers the hole in the fender where the antenna enters and anchors the antenna. That this would happen is not apparent to the new resident, because there appears to be plenty of room when you put the car into the spot; however, it turns out that during operation, the mechanical system comes very close to the top of the cars that are in the bottom spots while the cars are being moved around. When I figured out that the parking system was causing the damage, I filed a maintenance request because I thought it was defect they didn’t know about. Nobody responded to me, so I went to the office to talk to them about it. That’s when I found out they already knew and that someone else on the bottom level had the same problem. But they never said anything to me about it. In fact, Miles tried to blame me for the problem and said I should have known it would happen. This is not true, but if they think I should have known, then they definitely should have known and should not have given me a bottom spot. I have asked for reimbursement for the damage their system did to my car, but they have ignored my request. There have been other problems with the building. The HVAC system is dysfunctional and environmentally irresponsible. The apartments have louver vents to the outside, which would be fine but for the fact that the vents seem to be poorly made, because even when they are “closed” they leak cold air into the apartments. This means that the temperature in the apartment doesn’t get up to the thermostat setting if it is cool outside, and the heating system just keeps running. When I asked about this, management again knew of the problem already, but hadn’t fixed it. Ashley’s response was that they had looked on Amazon for vent covers but hadn’t found the right size. So the problem continues. The other issue is that when I have the system set to “heat” mode and I lower the thermostat before going to bed at night (so that the heat will come on when the apartment temperature dips to a certain level), the system will randomly switch to “cool” mode during the night and blast cold air. Again, no fix from management, although I have notified them. They have an ant infestation, which Ashley told me has existed since the building was under construction. I have seen the ants crawling around the area of my sinks and on my living room rug. The landlord seems unable to get this under control.I give the building 3 stars because the location (near campus) is good and the fitness center is pretty decent. But there were delays in getting the fitness center reopened when COVID restrictions were lifted. I had to email Ashley to ask for reopening at 10% and again at 25% capacity because management didn’t reopen on their own. For the increase to 25%, I got no response to my email for over a week, and when I could finally find her in the office, she said her email had been out for a week. What kind of company lets it email system go down for that long?I moved to the Addison in March 2021. More apartments near campus have opened up since I came to Berkeley. If you are looking, I suggest that you pick one of those.

This was the nicest building we toured in Berkeley. Ashley and Rob were the best team too. They always followed up, were really accommodating with appointment times, and were a great help answering all our questions.
