Applied for an account and have not heard from them for weeks. I liked their philanthropy but seems like they're not real.

Great credit union at the heart of downtown Berkeley. Not very busy inside when I went to open an account and join the membership. They have the lowest rates around if you are looking for a loan, and the people are amazingly super friendly.

Make sure you get digital confirmation that you’re enrolled in paperless billing. Had two different associates assure me I wouldn’t get billed and they ended up billing me for months.

I've had an account there for several years, and my daughter has an associated student account, so I can transfer transfer money in on a schedule. That works great, I get notified when it goes through. They've been helpful on the phone, in the office, and the web site and app are fine. I don't have a loan so can't say how well that works. They send a lot of postal mail like insurance offers, I don't know how to stop that. Overall excellent

USE Credit Union is probably the worst CU you could join. I wish I'd realized some things before signing up and just gone with Patelco or even a bank. First of all, if you are getting any type of interest paying account with them, be aware that the INTERESTS COMPOUNDS QUARTERLY and not monthly. Of course it's on me that I did not notice that when I opened my account. The thing that really rankles me is that they did not send me a letter to advise me of the maturity date on a certificate 30 days prior as is REQUIRED BY LAW. When I called to complain they lied and said the letter had gone out. Then they had someone call me back who left me a message with the customer service number! I had to go in and manually withdraw the funds and walk them over to another institution. It took them about an hour and a half to do this routine transaction that should have taken 15 minutes. I've yet to see if I will be penalized for this since they marked it as an "early withdrawal" even though they never contacted me before the permitted window. The reason it took so long to get my money is because they have an absolutely idiotic system in place because of Covid. It would actually work well enough if the tellers were able to handle things in a timely manner. But unless you have pretty simple and straightforward business with them, the teller will not know how to handle it and you will have to wait another half hour for someone who does. Customer service is similar that way. Call them for check numbers and transaction history if you must but anything beyond that is going to get referred to someone who may or not bungle it. I can overlook someone just not knowing an answer, especially if they pass me to someone who does, but when CS is rude and cranky or just makes things up on the spot or fakes a phone "disconnect", then it's really time to look for the other game in town.

Have been a member for several years now. I recently applied for a credit card (no current credit card debt, and excellent credit score), denied with no explanation. I'm glad I found out sooner than later their unwillingness to supply financial products before I needed a mortgage or car loan. Perhaps they prefer to cater to the wealthy classes.

USECU Richmond branch employees are too comfortable with the work ethic and the way employees treat some customers versus others. My family has banked there ever since I was five years old. They approved, then decline loans for inaccurate reasons, are rude and snide in communication, and lack empathy and compassion towards some customers. Obviously, judging others based on financial well-being. If they weren't so hard for criminals to access customer information I would pull my money, but I keep the account for its security features.

USE Credit Union has really, really declined in recent years. It is charging more in service fees and dropping services. Just got a notice that they'll no longer even send a statement monthly! Mistakes on accounts are common, and I've spent a lot of time correcting errors and dealing with employees who just don't care. Banking isn't rocket science. There are lots of other better options out there.

Opened up an account with USE as they had the best car loan rates. In order to become a member with them to get a loan they make you to open a "free" checking account for $100. Watch out -- there are a lot of hidden fees. They incorrectly charged me with "no e-statement" fees twice, and when trying to close the account they made me aware there's a 90-day wait period otherwise it's a $15 fee. None of this was disclosed upon signing up for the account, just hidden in the fine print. Nothing too huge, and it was worth it for the lower finance rate --- but if you're to actually bank with them, I'd check the fine print closely. All the agents have been helpful when spending time on the phone resolving these issues.

I have only experienced swift, conscientious service here, and it is conveniently close to Cal. The last few times I've come in, Derek has helped me out; he was very amicable and happy to answer any of my questions. I don't exactly frequent this place thanks to online banking, but it's good to know I'll have a quality experience when I do venture in.

After well over 20 years of having an account with USE they have decided to close my account. Interesting treatment of a loyal customer, go figure!
