Jose was hired by our designer after he was referred to her. She had never worked with him before. Initially, he appeared to be honest, and friendly, and competent, but as the project progressed, it became apparent that he was in over his head. The plumbing throughout the house was incorrect and had to be corrected. It became clear that Jose did not have a licensed plumber doing our project, just one of his handymen. In the end, we had water back up into our new master bathroom and bedroom. As a result, we had to hire an outside plumber to come in and "fix" all of his shoddy work. The tile installer had flushed all of his debris down the line, the toilet was installed completely wrong and not vented properly, we had to cut into the drywall to fix it. Pieces of plastic, towels, and construction debris were found in the line that had to be cleared. It was a complete mess. Jose, clearly, did not check his employees work. We had plumbing problems as well in the kitchen and had to have them redone by an outsideJose's carpenter installed kitchen pulls wrong on 5 panels in the kitchen, which had to be completely repainted and redone. They installed our outdoor fans incorrectly and had to redo those. We, actually paid to have a different tile installer put up the tile in our living room because we could not trust Jose and his workers to do it right. There are multiple chips and scratches on the kitchen and bathroom counters that we will have outside people to buff and clean up.Jose's tile installer had to redo areas in our master bathroom that were uneven and unacceptable.Jose's workers dropped and broke our fireplace logs and he got backed into a corner before he had to acknowledge they did it.Jose took no responsibility for anything. All of his shoddy work was just needing "adjustments". Things had to be redone multiple times to be right and he kept saying "its only an adjustment".Our project was three months overdue and Jose was finally fired after the master bathroom plumbing debacle.I agree completely with the previous review that said Jose tries to spin his way out of everything. If, in fact, his wife is the general contractor, we never saw her on our project. We never once saw a vacuum on our site. It was a mess. The biggest disappointment from Jose was a theft of jewelry from my bedroom during the construction. He was completely defensive and uncooperative with us. He assured us that his employees have been working for him for years and years which we later discovered was not true. After this, we knew he could not be trusted.Jose, also, has an explosive temper, as he threatened both of our designer and our homeowner's manager. Our designer, ultimately, would not come to our project when Jose was present.I will have to say that this was one of the worst experiences we have ever had with a home improvement remodel.Services: Kitchen remodeling

We remodeled our condo in Indian Ridge CC with JLC. The quality of the work was average at best. The contract was bid by Jose Casillas, but the contractors license belongs to his wife. Jose promised a lot when he bid our job and stated it would be done in 4 months. The job was done in 7 months. There were some permit & association issues which added some time, but Jose went on at least 5 vacations during our construction and after each vacation either him or someone in the family was sick causing more time for him to be away from the job. Funny how after each request for a progress payment he would take a vacation. This guy can spin excuses like no one's business. When we talked to his workers at the completion of the job, they all stated he was never on site to oversee them and asked us for a job. We were remodeling 4 properties at the same time with 4 different contractors and Jose was by far the most difficult to work with including being condescending and chauvinistic when working with my wife who was spearheading this project. When it came time have our association signoff on our remodel, they pointed out that he did not put in weep screed when he replaced sliding glass doors with windows. He said it was not in the original plans and bid, but two other contractors that reviewed the job told us that adding these items is a requirement and did not need to be specifically stated for a contractor to complete with this type of construction. The only time we saw the actual licensed contractor, Jose's wife, in person for our project was after she wrote to us to tell us she wanted more money to add the weep screed after the fact. We ended up having to pay them so that we could get our association deposit back and get them off of our project. Our floors still make noise when we walk on them from the poor installation, we had to have some of our hot and cold water faucets switched because they were installed in reverse, the tilework in our shower is cracking, etc. JLC's attention to detail was awful! Do not hire this company.Services: Exterior decorating
