About MCCS Big Bear Recreational Facility
The MCCS Big Bear Recreational Facility is a hidden retreat in the San Bernardino Mountains, providing affordable camping and lodging for military personnel, retirees, reservists, veterans, DoD employees, and their families. It is a perfect getaway for rest and recreation in a beautiful and peaceful area, with a great location within driving distance of the town and local attractions like the zoo and the village. The cabins are simple, straightforward, very nice, comfortable, and have been renovated. They include a coffee maker, fridge, gas stove, and microwave, with utensils and plates provided. A downside is that there is no oven, no cable television, and no air conditioning in the older cabins, which can be an issue during hot weather. Surprisingly good Wi-Fi is available. The front desk staff is very friendly, professional, and provides a smooth check-in. However, housekeeping service during stays may not be provided, and cleanliness upon arrival can sometimes be inconsistent. The facility is dedicated to outdoor adventure. Winter activities include skiing and snowboarding, while warmer months offer fishing, mountain biking, hiking, and water skiing. Onsite amenities include a recreation room with free board games, a volleyball court with a powdered sand floor, and tent sites without electricity. The overall experience is a great, affordable getaway for enjoying the outdoors.
