This was our third visit (our 1st in a casita) and we intend to return again and again! While the grounds are generally well maintained, the rooms clean and comfortable with lots of fun amenities on property (free yoga, tennis/pickleball courts, giant chess, horseshoes, several pools etc.), there are areas and some rooms that could use some TLC - but nothing that deterred us from enjoying our stay.

We just finished lunch at the Fox Bistro and had a great experience. 4 of us were so impressed with the quality of the food, the excellent service from Irene, and the beautiful atmosphere and our surroundings. The lamb barley soup was outstanding! The taco salad and burger were also delicious. This entire resort is a special place and worth spending time at, even if it is out of the way. Those of us who have the opportunity to visit frequently are truly lucky. Make yourself one of the fortunate ones and go experience La Casa Del Zorro. Debbie Duwe

Rooms: Great rooms. We had the 2nd floor view of the pool but for the 1st floor you get direct access to the pool.Nearby activities: lots of activities around including bocce ball, dark sky star gazing, 1 mile running track and moreFood & drinks: Local restaurant and market place, both needed lagging behind the local restaurant. Few examples, the restaurant is open for Breakfast only on weekends. So we went to the market place to get breakfast but they had only a single yogurt, and it was on 7:20AM.

Food & drinks: The breakfast restaurant function only on weekends. The coffee shop has limited products and by 8:00 pm many are gone.

We were looking for a comfortable place in the desert to relax and enjoy the night sky, and hit the jackpot with this resort. Rooms were spacious and comfortable (especially the bed), the bathroom huge and well appointed, the property was well maintained, and the staff was friendly and responsive. We will be back!

Great place! Have been coming here for short getaways since 2015. The staff is great and it is the perfect location to relax and watch meteor showers! Stayed in a Casita with some family for the first time recently and it was so fun!

Pretty but problematic:Was charged weeks after my visit for drinks at a bar that my girlfriend and I never visited. The following day I was charged an additional $73 for a meal that we did not have. The front desk said they will look into it, as it is a common issue for customers to leave the room number of other guests at their restaurant, and for the wrong individuals to be charged. The visit(just at the resort itself) was not a particularly pleasant experience either. We were moved out of our chosen room due to an HVAC system that was out of order leaving the room extremely hot in the desert heat. The transition took a few hours to occur due to overbooking at the resort, using up much of our first night’s stay to resolve the issue. We awoke to large bugs(believed to be cockroaches) in the bathroom of the second room on the day of our departure. In conclusion; The property is beautiful, and the rooms look wonderful in pictures, with high quality amenities. Borrego Springs is also a beautiful location with a wide variety of unique experiences to offer, and a multitude of pleasant places to stay. Unfortunately, the experience was severely tainted by the poor customer service, poor maintenance, pest control problems, and severely mismanaged billing.

We arrived early and our room was ready by 2:00, which was nice. We were hoping to have lunch at a restaurant in the resort, but neither the bar nor restaurant were open until 4pm, so the nice lady at the front desk told us where to eat in town.I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the room we had. The room was spacious and the pool was right outside of our room. For the most part, the room smelled clean, but we later found rotten food along with some critters. We wanted to take advantage of the main pool as it is the larger pool on the premises, but it was really dirty and had algae forming on the sides of the pool wall. We decided to try the pool by our room instead and it was cleaner than the other pool and not as busy. The pools have limited lounge chairs, only 6 per pool, which is weird. They were all taken, so we put our stuff on the regular chairs but I would have liked to be able to lounge on a chair. They recently opened a cafe, which is nice. They serve coffee for a hefty price of $9 for a black coffee, breakfast sandwiches, salads, sandwiches, pastries, etc. We had a charcuterie board with various cheeses and it was good. I also had an iced coffee in the morning which was refreshing in the desert heat.We had dinner twice at the hotel restaurant and I can honestly say do not waste your money, the food is blah. The first night I had stuffed shells, my husband had the prime rib, my son had a cheeseburger, and we had a bottle of Matua Sauvignon Blanc. The Sauv Blanc was $56 and in town, you can get the same bottle for $17, so the second night, we decided to get the food to go instead of dining in the restaurant. I ordered the risotto and my husband ordered the halibut with mango risotto. When we got our food, both my husband and I were bewildered because there was no risotto, it was long grain rice. I called the restaurant and the girl on the phone said, “sorry, that’s all we have tonight”. So basically, I paid $26 for white rice, not cool. I would never eat there again, it was not worth the money. We would have ordered at the bar, but the menu is very limited with only a few options. They allowed us a late check out, which was great. I wanted to sit by the pool for a few hours before heading back, so I cleaned the pool with the net. I just can not comprehend why they do not have staff to clean the pools daily.I am not sure I will return to Borrego. I think if I were to do another desert weekend getaway, it would be to Palm Springs. There just isn’t a lot of dining options and the hotel was just okay for me. It would have been nice if there was a bar out by the pool that served food during the day and someone needs to maintain the pools so they are not so dirty.

Husband brought me for my birthday weekend. Very professional staff, wonderful atmosphere, and very cozy.Loved almost everything from check in to check out.Rooms: The Deluxe rooms are very large and beautifully decorated.Walkability: Within walking distance to everything within the resort, including the life size chess set, star gazing theater, restaurant, spa, and gift shop.Food & drinks: The restaurant is a little pricy but the food is amazing. Husband had the French Pork Chopand I had the Wild Mushroom Risotto. Large portions and very well made. The Cafe had Starbucks coffee and any small snack foods you may want.

I was shocked how much I enjoyed this resort. They have something for everyone. The rooms are spacious and I love the ceiling with the wood beams. The staff were all so friendly. The pools were clean. I understand we are in the desert and rooms are nice and cool. My room did have a bug on the inside door when we went to leave. I still gave it a 5 star as they really do deserve it. I'll go back.
