My daughter, a struggling waitress, went to the H&R Block website, noting the Burbank location on Magnolia. She was using the "free" tax prep from their website. She completed her most simple tax forms in their online portal and they were accepted, noting she was due a refund from both state and federal. However, when she tried to submit them to the IRS/State, they would not go through. She tried it several times, following the directions to the letter. No luck. She called the Burbank office and they said she should come in. She made an appointment and went in. Miraculously, the problem was rectified and they wanted in excess of $300 to submit the forms. They encouraged her, saying she could use the refund to pay them. She declined, went home, completed the same info on the Turbo Tax site, and guess what....it was accepted on the first try. Use your own discretion of whether this is a legitimate practice, but we will never use H&R Block again as it seems they are not operating in the best interest of people with limited funds.

My first time at H&R Block in Burbank on Magnolia. William ( Bill ) Proffitt was so helpful and regarding my deductions as a 1099 independent contractor employee would highly recommend him!

This location cost me $1,204.25 in addition to the already $1,200.00 I had already paid for my 2020 tax return PLUS their (s***ty) service fee of $300 something for a SIMPLE, JOINT, NO KIDS tax preparation. When I contacted my "tax advisor" after receiving the dreadful CP11 form to get some sort of explanation as to why I had to pay x amount I got a blunt response to call the IRS. I was fine with that. What I was not OK with was the manner in which I was treated as if I was out to get the IRS when seeking their aid. I worked for the government. Why the f***! Would I want to cheat them out? I hope you understand that any reputable place will take the time to go over in detail what had transpired to refresh your memory and HELP to find an error. These guys aren't it. I'm sure they finished their tax preparation course at some place you'd find behind a cereal box and think they're top and hot sh*t, but they're not. I had to call another place to tell me that the filer had committed errors and thanks to the PDFs she had sent me prior to her f*ck up, there were two major discrepancies. (I filed online and received a PDF before the CP11 arrived, then when I went back to their office they printed something else which was totally different to what I was given originally.) It did not look good. But of course, the blockheads assembled and began to go in circles with the same answers but never answering my questions. I felt like I was in the twilight zone. And to add insult to injury, the old lady was talking to the receptionist with glasses about OUR problem. It was a f*cking nightmare. I will report this again to the IRS and send both sets of documents for their revision. In the mean time, I will have to pay what I owe the IRS, again, since H & R Blockheads are good at taking your money and bull-sh*tting numbers. I get there was a pandemic and new policies took place, but I do not trust them to fold my socks let alone do my taxes. Use H&R Block if you want to pay extra.

Gudiela Weisberg's ineptitude as a tax accountant almost cost me $1200. I should've taken her emails as a warning sign, since they were riddled with typos. And when I asked Gudiela Weisberg to please fix the mistake, what was her response? Call the IRS myself...call them three days before taxes were due. Because she f***** up. Why would I ever go back to H&R Block after this? We had a good run with them (almost twenty years), but this is inexcusable. Do yourself a favor, Yelper, and do your taxes yourself. If you have the money, go to a real accountant, and not this McDonalds-quality tax representation. Save yourself the stress. Gudiela needs to be fired and put out to pasture. Like fools, we went in to the office to get this mistake fixed, and were helped instead by David Viter, but he was about as useful as a car without wheels, not helping us figure out the bogus charge, instead trying to cast doubt on our claims. First he claimed that we still owed the IRS money, so I showed him my bank statement with the payment, and he changed his tactic to we gave Gudiela the wrong information, and it was our fault--no chance that SHE messed up, it had to be us. He finally ended up repeating "We cannot help you" over and over like a broken record until we gave up and left the office--that's what my $300 payment to H&R got me: these two shitheads and a bogus $1200 IRS charge. I told Guidiela she messed up on our way out, and she had the gall to laugh about it-- this mockery coming from the person I entrusted with my tax information. I promise you she won't be laughing when I present to her supervisor the proof of her errors, and get her fired so she doesn't f*** up anybody else's tax return . In the meantime, though, at least I can warn you to stay the hell away from H&R Block.

If you have basic tax forms- just do it yourself- they charged me $400 for a basic W2, a child credit, and a health insurance form... utterly ridiculous- I will absolutely NEVER COME BACK and I am absolutely letting everyone I know to not even bother with them and just either do your own taxes or go to a different place.
